B2 Unification Match - GenZyme 55 Pat Pidgeons 52
The Saint and Santos Lead the Zyme Past PP in Dramatic Fashion!!!
With the Wolverine teaching his yearly reffing clinic down at the Perkins School for the Blind, everyone's favorite man child/ref got the go ahead to tell it how it was and last night, me and D-Mac got to call a well played and hard fought match. Everyone says the West is weak, well let me tell you, PP really hung tough and gained the West some ultra respect.
In the first half, the Zyme was flat, while PP looked sharp. Jeff Columbo (23pts and if they won, would have been finals MVP) was a defensive nightmare for the Zyme with his quickness, as he got to the rack with ease. PP pulled the lead up to about 8-9, before the Saint, George St Jean (21pts Co- Finals MVP) started going off from 3 pt land, which included a first half buzzer beater in between 3 PP defenders. I loved the walk off with the hands up too, playoff emotion!
The buzzer beater cut the lead to 2, and in the second half, the Zyme finally started to put together some consistent play and board domination. Keith Schofield, Mike Bush and Santos each snatched evry loose board. Mike Santos (21pts, co- Finals MVP) started getting to the rack like a fat kid getting to little debbies. Mike really threw some athletic moves in the paint, which only solidified the Zyme's inside presence. Led by Santos and the Saint, the Zyme pulled ahead 42-35. But hold up a minutes, I didnt hear no bell and neither did PP's Ken Abrahamsen. Kenny hit some big time 3's and all of a sudden, with Jonathan "Dont bring me Down" Bruce dominating the offensive glass (8.), Ken and Jeff were able to tie the game up, at 46 with 3 to play after some huge buckets.
The crowd was enjoying every minute of the warriors battling for the dish. Every bucket was crucial, every call scrutinized, all the season's hopes and dreams coming down to the final minute.
In the final minute, PP just went flat on the offensive end, while the Zyme was able to convert on a few buckets and hit some key free throws.
Great work by both teams, and congrats to the Zyme for a hard fought Dish.
