#1 West - Bones Says: Cummupins 72 vs #2 East - 3 Of Us 68
Bones Says: A Win's Still a Win, we'll take the 'Chip
Needless to say, by just glancing at the score, this was a much closer game than the prognosticators made it out to be. Who sets a double digit line in a championship game anyway 3 Of Us took the slight to heart, or at least, Mr. Kaplan did. He was fired up from the opening tip, yelling, imploring his guys to play D, celebrating the earliest points, and doing everything he could to let Cummupins know they were going to have a dog fight on their hands. Longest sentence every in a championship write-up I think so...
But yea, a red-hot 9-17 from downtown spurned on the 3 of Us. They were getting great looks thanks to a patient offense and lackadaisical defense by Cummupins. So they converted. Linehan hit 3-4 and Murph 2-4 as 3 Of Us was in control of the game. Yea, that's right, they were up 10 at the break. It did not appear as if Cummupins was going to win the game, let alone cover the spread. The Great Dane was shredding the 'defense' and playing great, until getting hurt in the middle of the second half. They definitely could have used his services down the stretch. Linehan was dropping dimes, setting guys up for looks so good, they couldn't help but convert.
For Cummupins, the D was terrible, and they were a tad confused by the hybrid ManZone that was thrown at them. Anyone want to explain what that was It didn't help that Kaplan, nose bandage and all, got into their collective head by being the voice of insanity. Again, with the yelling, clapping, etc, Mighty Mouse was running around without his cape, squeaking his head off. Mazz was 1-9 from downtown, but took enough other shots to pace the squad with 16 points at the break. But no one else could convert, finish, or share the ball, and the assist count told most of the story (12-4 in favor of 3 of Us). But as the second half started, so did the momentum. Geoff Meyer and Lighthouse Bermont eventually started to wear down the smaller 3 of Us guys, and hit layups! Whoot! Can't really say enough about the job that Meyer did in the comeback effort, ending the night with 18 points and 20 boards. He hustled on every possession and is obviously a game changer on defense just with his presence. The 10 point hole was down to just 4 quickly, then it was tied, as 3 of Us stopped getting the easy looks. It's amazing what can be done when you try on D!
Mazzone started to bowl his way to the hoop and get easy looks instead of jacking 3s. Everyone was in foul trouble and the parade to the line pushed Cummupins ahead and that was bad news for 3 of Us. (More bad news that I ended up having to give Mthe Finals MVP award. I'm sure he'd rather that, and his picture with me on the website, than the regular season MVP award.) But 3 Of Us never trailed by more than 5. Yea, we were no where near the double digit line. The offense sputtered for 3 Of Us and someone needed to rescue it, so of course Kaplan stepped up to the plate. That's what big time players do! Hitting moneyballs when his team needed it most, getting steals, keeping it close, it's all part of the job description. But down 3, how is he not the one shooting the ball with a chance to tie the game Cummupins hit free throws to seal it and win the B1 Title with an unblemished record. 3 of Us will be left to wonder what would have happened if they could have called on Dane in the closing minutes, but they'll be back to fight next season! Great work all around fellas.
