Spring 2005 B1 League Awards

Another successful B1 league here at CRFC as we, err I, recovered nicely from the loss of one of the league’s classic heroes in Duncan Primetime. We had a few new nicknames such as the Widowmaker (born at the Rattlesnake) and the Animal. We saw the most compelling evidence for the Wolverine pre-season #1 curse as Sasquatch was injury riddled all season and failed to make the playoffs. We saw the revamping of Kerdan, with the loss of Jiggy, into a Phoenix Suns-esque Kerdan-lite team, which was the brainchild of Mike Levinson. All in all, a very competitive and fun league that I hope you all enjoyed. Thanks to all (well, most) of the players for making it fun for me too! – WOLVERINE

Spring 2005 Champions -AYTD

(From Left to Right) Dan Linehan, Bill Santo, Spike Santo, Tom Heffernan and on the ground is Matt Kaplan.
Despite a .500 regular season, the young men of AYTD played almost flawlessly in the playoffs and downed three top teams to win the title with the class and poise of true champions. Congrats to all these guys on a good season and a unbelievable playoff run.

Most Valuable Player
Keith Manning, Red Bull Addicts

How does 20 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals sound to you? The best all-around player in the league and ½ of the most dangerous brother combination since the Menendez brothers. Word has it that he has signed a multi-season deal with Genzyme, making him the most highly sought after free agent this off-season. Wait, CRFC doesn’t have an off-season. All in all, a great season for the league’s most talented player.

General Manager of the Year
Mike Levinson, Kerdan

With the loss of two of his big men Jiggy (resigned) and Tom Kramer (injury), Levinson went to the drawing board and completely re-tooled his team from a low post focused team to a run n gun three point shooting team. The strategy resulted in a very solid and entertaining season for Kerdan-lite and a few games where they could do no wrong from behind the arc. Kudos to Levinson for pulling a Tiger Woods and not being afraid to retool an already solid team with the hopes of long-term benefits.

Defensive Player of the Year
Dave Stein, D’s Nutz

While this guy can score at times, his main focus is defense. Week in and week out he chose the toughest player on the other team to guard and he did a fine job of it, despite the fact that this often hindered his own offensive output. But it was team first for this guy and while not many people may have noticed his defense, I certainly did.

Rookie of the Year
Mark “The Animal” Odlum, Sasquatch

This guy’s strategy is very simple – rebound first, rebound second, and then rebound again. Watching his tenacity underneath sometimes makes me think I am actually looking into a mirror (of the past, of course). A guy that averaged 13 points and 12 rebounds in his rookie season at CRFC will certainly be reckoned with in the future. With the same exact team as last year’s finalist AND the rookie of the year, how did Sasquatch not make the playoffs again?

Wolverine's Award
Brian Feller, Fire Hydrants

Brian Feller has been playing in the league for quite some time now. While his career here started off a bit shaky, he has worked hard on his game to develop into a very nice roll player. He has developed an outside jumper which he hits on a consistent basis. He also has improved his defense as well and I have never heard him complain about anything in all the games I have reffed of his. In a world that I believe should reward effort and improvement, Feller is as deserving an award winner as anybody on this list.
