Regular Season: Week 4

Commentary by DRUFF & Five Hard Fouls...

Big Daddy Doomsday 69  Uncle Ruckus 75

Ruckus Defeats Doomsday Without The Device

Tommy Doyle's has got it out of control with their $10 pitchers of Coors Light Mon-Thurs for all CAC basketball players. Coupled with a great weekly food deal, there hasn't been a combo like this Stockton and Malone. And yes, this is good at both Harvard and Kendall locations!

Bring the mother***ing Ruckus! Uncle Ruckus shows off another steady game as they knock down Big Daddy Doomsday for a 75-69 victory. Uncle Ruckus is 2-2 in the standings, while BDD has to climb out of the cellar as they hold down the #9 spot currently.

Dan Duggan led the way, grabbing 14 of his 22 pts in the second half as Duggan's 3 sealed the deal (off a nice Kilpatrick dime) with 1:30 to go to put his team up by seven. The Captain, Royce Henry, also got 10 of his 14 after the break as Uncle Ruckus proved to be a bit much on the inside for BDD. To start the game, Ben Max's 3s proved to be an igniter as UR ran out to a 12-4 lead.

BDD was playing catch-up most of the game after that. Sure, Wentworth and Robbins had decent games...but somethign just seemed off for Doomsday. They did cut the lead down to three with 5:00 after a convincing Matt Abbott slam dunk. Key plays were made down the stretch by Kilpatrick and Van Voorhies as Uncle Ruckus climbs back to .500 four-ninths of the way in.

MKT Shoots Through BoneYard

Tommy Doyle's has got it out of control with their $10 pitchers of Coors Light Mon-Thurs for all CAC basketball players. Coupled with a great weekly food deal, there hasn't been a combo like this Stockton and Malone. And yes, this is good at both Harvard and Kendall locations!

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, MKT has proven that you can come back from the dead as throw up an impressive win to beat the previously undefeated BoneYard. The final score was 77-68 as MKT was led by the awesome 1-2 shooting punch of Tony Barros (30 points, 6-6 3FG) and Adio Ashafa (26 pts, 4-6 3FG).

Barros put on an absolute show in the first half as he hit four 3s and a total of 18 points. Adio also added his outside daggers as MKT grabbed a commanding 28-15 lead about midway through the 1st. Sergei added a huge lift in this one as he hit a trey and made some nice moves off the block. The size that MKT has can be imposing when they press their will on their opponent.

BoneYard had a much better 2nd half, after trailing by 8 at the break. Ryan Flynn really got going as he put down 13 of his 17 in the second half. Still, a 4-point play from Barros really emphasized the good fortune that MKT made for themselves in this one early in the half. The lead would hover around double-digits until the final minutes where an MKT technical plus a silly foul or two allowed a small opening for BoneYard. Nevertheless, Adio, Tony, and Phil Jackson all hit their free throws. Ballgame and an impressive comeback win for MKT.

The Millrats 81  Charlestown 66

Millrats dominate Charlestown for a half and then….

On to the write-up, coming into this match-up I thought for sure this would be a good game.  Even though Charlestown was missing their starting PG it was there home floor.  The Millrats always put a competitive team in the league.  I hadn’t seen them play since losing a tough buzzer beater last session but they had a couple of new guys so it would be interesting to see how they played.

With 15 minutes left in the half, the Millrats held an 11 point lead (20-9).  With 9:39 left in the half Charlestown was forced to take a timeout down now 30-10.  I really didn’t know what was going on but this didn’t look like the same Charlestown team I had enjoyed watching from the previous 3 weeks.  Every time I thought the game would get better it just got worst and worst.  At the half the Millrats were up 44-18.  When I say Charlestown couldn’t throw it in the ocean I literally mean they couldn’t.  They shot 1-17 from the 3 point line in the first half.  On the Millrats side, Benn Cluff didn’t miss a shot and Justin Powell hooped like always.

Second half, the lid came off a little for Charlestown going on a 10-6 run forcing the Millrats to take a timeout up 50-28 with 18:47 left in the game.  Charlestown slowly chipped away at the lead and got as close as 6 with 5 minutes left (63-57) but it just wasn’t meant to be.  Alvin Lewis secured the win with some decent free throw shooting.  Robert Taylor also helped the Millrats win 81-66.  On the Charlestown side, Basil Wajd and Bryant Lambert played hard to keep their team in the game but it wasn’t nearly enough.

The BirdMen 76  Living the Dream 70

Look up at the standings….it’s the Birdmen

Unless you can’t read you should already know that Tommy Doyle’s is the official C.A.C. Basketball League Sponsor.  Everything you need to know about them can be found here http://www.cacbasketball.com/tommy-doyles.php

Game summary time, on one side we had Living the Dream (LTD) who was looking to bounce back from the last time they were at Charlestown Boys and Girls Club.  On the other side were the Birdmen who I hadn’t seen play but it looked like a team made up of free agents.  Regardless of my pre-game thoughts a winner would be determined in about 45 minutes.

In the early going, the Birdmen controlled the half up 16-10 with 15 minutes remaining.  With about 9 minutes remaining in the half, the Birdmen went on a 17-8 run now up 33-18 forcing LTD to call a timeout.  Oh no, this games had the makings of blow-out written all over it but wait LTD got back into, down now 37-31 with about 2:49 left in the half.  The Birdmen closed the half up 45-36.  Three guys for the Birdmen did most of the work.  Marquis Victor went 4-5 from the 3 point line and Kreg Peerless and Steve Deluca pretty much did everything else.  On the LTD side, Jon Stott was having a game scoring all of his points in the first frame.

Second half, the game got really close.  LTD was able to pull within 1 point with about 8:49 left.  However they weren’t able to get any closer and ended up losing 76-70.  Ben Chase for the Birdmen hit some clutch three pointers to secure the win.  On the LTD side solid contributions from Phil Barera, Robert Stockwell and Andrew St Claire kept the game close but they were unable to get the win.
