Mazz's Mouth Writes a Check That the Corp Can't Cash

Big overtime win this week for Boardman Gets Paid. Billy and Co. struggled early on against MAZZ’s hot start, with Hunter just being too much man for anyone in the middle. MGW and Jenco carried their team back from the huge double digit deficit into overtime and that is where they and their teammates would hit enough free throws to snag a victory.

Grades

Corp

Mazz(A)-Killer game from the #1 in the broadcast booth 1-2 punch. Needed help earlier and longer breaks on the bench so he can play both ends of the floor for the full 48 mins and more. Captain Mazz will look at the tape and figure out matchups and substitutions.

Hunter(B+)-Locked up the defensive boards and finished strong inside. Needs to be able to hit a floater or step out for that free throw line jumper, but can not let his offense be strictly catching and finishing inside or he will be too easy to cover.

Brob(C+)-My second favorite player in the league really locked up the defense but on offense just needs to shake some rust off and be confident in his game. Was the reason why his team jumped out to such a huge lead, just faded away later when asked to do too much with the captain on the bench.

Fraher(B-)-My third favorite player in the league did exactly what you would have asked from him as the Ghost. There were some unfavorable mismatches on defense but it’s a testament to who Fraher is that he matches up with whoever he is pointed at and is always getting back on defense to stop the fast break.

Andrew(N/A)- Don’t really know his game too much, but played a solid two minutes that started with him a spot up 3 and then instead of jacking up a second he swung it to fraher in the corner for a jump shot. I need to see more good things from Andrew to actually give him a grade.

Clarke(B-)- Really helped his team claw and fight for a really good chance at the win, but a few missed layups, lack of defense, and some bad off ball movement when you now have a history of playing with Mazz. I need to see more for a better grade.

Boardman Gets Paid

Billy- Picked the tough assignment on defense, and even tho Mazz had a good game, Billy forced him into some tougher shots than he would have liked including some forced 3’s late. 4 blocks means you played good defense to me.

MGW-Made the big shots to get his team back into the game, including what would be the game winning 3 from about 4 feet beyond the 3 point line. Great interior 1V1 defense against Hunter rounded out a great game from Alphabet Man.

Jenco- Talk shit at your own PERIL! Dude was everywhere on the fast break, steals/blocks and taking Mazz’s advice and attacking the rim. Was THE reason his team got the win this week. Might be the steal of the draft if he keeps up the play.

Jacob- Rookie is still feeling his way into the league and def working chemistry with his team. Needs to be aggressive early so he doesn’t have to take tough shots later on when he needs to step up. Sealed the game in overtime, hitting 3 free throws, his only of the night, so def showed he has some game and can step up when his team needs him.

Flight Crew 51  The Crab Boys 65

Crab Boys ground Flight Crew

No Hof for Flight Crew so I expected them to struggle. Eventually his absense was felt, but in the first half Jesse was doing his best Hof impression and straight up carrying their offense. He had 21 of his game high 25 in the first. He was hitting step back 3s, and finishing crazy Kyrie-like shots at the rim. Jesse has it in him to play something like this every week, but he just needs to add an element of control and flow to his decision making. The issue for Flight Crew was Pendergast being the only other player in double figures with 11. I expected Joel to get more opportunities and step up his scoring but he wasnt much of a factor, while Noel's 3 ball from last week was nonexistant this time.

Crab Boys are living up to their reputation as the best defensive team through 2 games. Whats been surprising to me is that Ganley has been their best offensive player. With teams focused on stopping Kerr, Brian has been getting really favorable matchups. He feasted on Jesse in this game. You know who else looked good tonight? Vladi. Sure his shot is still a herky jerky mess (you never used to shoot like this Vladi). What really helps Crab Boys is that out of 40 players in the league, they dont have a single one in the bottom 10-15 (except Roberts!). Everyone contributes and everyone has matchups they can take advantage of on a given night, which gives them just enough scoring to win with their superior defense. Kerr is "the guy" but he doesnt need to be fed the ball and can defer when someone like Brian is going off.

Team Lock Down 50  Redeem Team 59

Redeem Team starts slow but finishes strong

The story through 2 games for Redeem Team has been the importance of Kofi's defense in the second half. In game 1 he shut down a red hot Hof and this week he neutralized Yeakley after he got hot, holding him to 5 points in the frame. Kofi isnt doing anything revolutionary out there, hes simply staying on his feet, keeping his hands up, not biting on fakes and not ball watching. Sure his superior height and length help, as does his quickness. Hes saved Lyon and co. twice so far. Keith was eerily quiet especially since he had a matchup advantage on paper, and while Kap had another solid stat line, they need a more consistent 3 point threat from him. Mere nitpicking by me after a 2-0 start.

Team Lock down was feisty but they lack the high level talent to consistently win in A Draft. They have a whole roster of guys who you would love as your 3rd best player. Alfama did a little bit of everything, and made some huge hustle plays including a miraculous offensive rebound/kickout to Jeff for 3. Syd held it down on defense despite being the only big man facing a Lyon/Kofi/Keith front line. Only giving up 59 points. I feel a bit bad for Marc since he really doesnt have a suitable role, being reduced to a pure facilitator. Marc is a guy that loves to come around screens and score in the flow of an offense, something lockdown does not have AND a role already filled by Yeakley.
