Commentary by BAKER & NOT WILL OTTO...

Thundercats 68  Cash Me Outside 78

JB for 3 !!!!

I hustled my ass over from the beautiful new King Open School after a devestating loss at the buzzer in the Over-30 Draft League just to make Mazz happy for this one. How am I greeted? By he and Popko putting up airballs on their respective squads' first possession. Hell of a way to say you're happy to see me too guys!

This game completely swung on the back of Jim Birrel's 2nd half play and his personal 18 point run that was enough to completely alter the proceedings.

Before we got to that point we had a game that could go either way. Khalid led Cash Me Outside to a 22-12 advantage by splashing 3s and dropping dimes. Erion was having his way on the block and CMO looked good.

But Mike Baker led the Thundercats back. They roared off a 19-2 run over the next 8 minutes to take a 31-24 lead. With Baker driving and focing the D to collapse Will Otto got some clean looks from downtown. Sure some touched every part of the rim before dropping in, but they still counted for 3 points. Will was 4-5 from deep and the Cats led 36-32 at the break. Masters put in a couple threes in the first but was mostly concnered with his rebound totals. I take it he feels underappreciated for his work on the boards by his teammates based on his paltry 4 rpg average. Or he saw some guy sitting at the scoretable looking at his phone most of the first half and assumed I wasn't paying attention.

But I was! I just tweet a lot

In the 2nd Baker kept the good times rolling, popko hit a 3 and the Thundercats led 51-43 as Khalid headed to the bench for a breather. All was right in the world!

But then Jim Birrel happened. Looking to keep the team afloat JB got a clean look at a 3 and connected. Then he got another and didn't miss. He was heating up! Jim aggressively took the ball the hole like a kindergartener with a fever, everyone seemed to stay away from him.

Are we allowed to joke about fevers? coughing? I dont know man, it's business as usual with us until you hear otherwise, so plan on playing until you do!

So yea, 10 straight points for JB and the game was tied at 53. A couple more 3s, another lay-up and Cash Me Outside tied the game at 61 with 8 to go. EIGHTEEN straight points from a single player is something I haven't seen before, and I can comfortably say I've played in and seen over 3000 CAC Basketball games in the last 14 years.

From there Mazz hit a lay-up and splashed his own 3 and the squad was able to hit more than enough free throws to prevent any sort of last minute march madness by the Thundercats. They somehow ignored Otto after his magnificant first half, you've got to know when to feed the hot hand (and starve the cold!) The fact that both of these teams are middle of the road squads is absolutely mindboggling to me.
