***Co-Ed GameNight Post-Season Awards***

Hello ladies and gentlemen! I’m here to bring you another season wrap-up award presentation! The Co-Ed season has come to a close and it’s time to hand out some accolades to some well deserved players. Tonight is the beginning of the playoffs, with #1 seeded KaBoom taking on #4 Band of Misfits and the #2 Sexy And I Know It going toe to toe with #3 seed Rain Dance. The Cambridge YMCA should be rocking tonight, but before that let’s hand out these awards!!

Male MVP

Candidates

Terrel Newton (Sexy And I Know It)

Player Rating: 67.6

Stats: 21.5 ppg, 13.4 rpg, 5.8 apg, 2.9 spg, 1.5 bpg

Michael Kearney (Rain Dance)

Player Rating: 61.1

Stats: 25.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 6.4 apg, 2.6 spg, 41% 3pt

Gael Frouin (Band of Misfits)

Player Rating: 52.2

Stats: 12.7 ppg, 9.9 rpg, 6.9 apg, 1.4 spg

Jeff Eliason (KaBoom)

Player Rating: 46.6

Stats: 17.3 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 2.3 bpg

Winner

Michael Kearney

-A MVP in my opinion isn’t all about how many buckets you put up or how many rebounds or blocks you get, it’s about how the team works around you and how you can manage a squad. When your not in the game or in the lineup at all, the team plays totally different, and that’s what Kearney represents. Not only was 25 points per game gone when he was out of the lineup, but RD’s entire gameplan changes when he’s not available. That along with his statline is what gave him this award, congrats Mike!

Defensive Player of the Year

Candidates

Rev. Rip Rohman (Band of Misfits)

Defensive Stats: 10.6 drpg, 1.8 spg, 1.0 bpg

Jeff Eliason (KaBoom)

Defensive Stats: 7.4 drpg, 2.3 bpg, 1.1 spg

Terrel Newton (Sexy And I Know It)

Defensive Stats: 11.4 drpg, 2.9 spg, 1.5 bpg

Manny Simpri (KaBoom)

Defensive Stats: 8.6 drpg, 3.4 bpg

Winner

Terrel Newton

-Coming up just short for repeat MVP honors, Newton snags up a defensive player of the year award with his 2.9 steals per game (2nd in Co-Ed). For a guard to grab 10+ defensive rebounds a night and turns those rebounds into immediate fast break helped SAIKI break games wide open. Congrats Terrel!

Rookie of the Year

Candidates

Manny Simpri (KaBoom)

Stats: 10.6 ppg, 12.6 rpg, 3.4 bpg, 1.6 apg

Kia Minor (Sexy And I Know It)

Stats: 8.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.5 apg

Marcus Holmes (Sexy And I Know It)

Stats: 7.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.7 spg

Jordan Mickens (Rain Dance)

Stats: 24.6 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 4.8 apg, 1.6 spg, 59% 3pt

Winner

Jordan Mickens

-Mickens was hands down the top rookie of this past season, if it wasn’t for my own biased 4-man candidate for MVP, Mickens would’ve been the 5th man and second player for his team. Mickens’ near 60% 3pt shooting percentage is the best I’ve seen in any league, making 30 out of 51 attempts (ridiculous!). Congrats to Mickens, who should be a tough matchup for KaBoom tonight at the Y.

“Rory Duyon Award”

Role Player of the Year

Helen Ridley (Dribble Penetration)

Stats: 8.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.2 apg

Manny Simpri (KaBoom)

Stats: 10.6 ppg, 12.6 rpg, 1.6 apg, 3.4 bpg

Pamela Robinson (Sexy And I Know It)

Stats: 16.3 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.8 apg

Michael Hagerty (Rain Dance)

Stats: 11.0 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.2 bpg

Winner

Manny Simpri

-After being a candidate for 3 awards, Simpri picks up the coveted “Rory Duyon Award” for his solid play on both sides of the ball. In his rookie season, he dominated the block whenever he was in, racking up a season high 10 blocks in one game. Congrats Manny!

Women’s MVP

Candidates

Helen Ridley (Dribble Penetration)

Player Rating: 18.2

Stats: 8.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.2 apg

Pamela Robinson (Sexy And I Know It)

Player Rating: 25.7

Stats: 16.3 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.8 apg

Kia Minor (Sexy And I KNow It)

Player Rating: 19.0

Stats: 8.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.5 apg

Winner

Pamela Robinson

-Robinson was by far the most influential lady on her squad, with males stepping out to put a hand in her face to stop the long ball. She even hit a game winning free throw late in the season to lock her team into the #2 seed. Congrats Pam!
