B Draft S19 Week 2: Waters are Muddied

Week one was one for the books, as the excitement level, and overall just strong play was evident throughout the night. Jacked up to see how these teams will continue to develop, and how they will look against different teams, can anybody separate from the pack, or will we have even muddier waters than this week.

6:15 Brotherhood Vs Mcgirrthy

On paper this should be a fucking slug fest, two bigger teams, throwing haymaker after haymaker. Unfortunately for me, my team does have some issues with the 6:15 game , and I may be missing a piece of two ( I will not reveal who) nothing wrong with a lil suspense. Good storyline in this one , is the revenge of Zackery Webert as he felt slighted when I passed on him with my two picks at the end of the draft, I look for him to be fired the fuck up!. With the looming attendance issues not sure how to go through the matchups, I do feel like my team is deep enough where we can make Mcgirthy sweat, but without certain pieces potentially, I’ll be objective and give them the edge.

Brotherhood- 58 Mcgirthy-64

7:05 Take off VS Numb

What a tale of opposites in this one. In one corner you have one of the best scoring duos I’ve seen in B draft since Tenney/Hof as Nate got two monsters in Joe/STAT. What makes them even scarier is the size, and physicality that they both possess, its not something you can teach, they are just two very big, very strong men. In the other corner you have Ian’s high flying attack lead by Pollock/Joel who in their right is a crazy good duo. This game is very intriguing to me as I see Ians team having trouble on the boards, but I also see Nates team struggling to keep up on defense, especially with how deep Ian’s team is I could see Cohen/Ott having issues with the Jet/Abrams. I’m gonna go with an upset alert in this one , I think Big joe/STAT get theirs, but the depth and speed of Take off will do just enough to jump start their season.

Take off-73 Juice-68

7:55 Dad’s Vs Ref Revenge

People had doubts about both of these teams, as after week 1 you have the DAD’s confirming those doubts, and Ref showing they could be a genuine contender.  I feel like both teams have matchups that have some upside, so this one will still be very hard fought. Haas will most likely be matched up with Ghost, I think they both get theirs, but in the past they kinda gave equaled each other out. Isaac desperately needs to have a good defensive game for the dads and he will have his hands full with MC1, if Isaac can rise up and win this matchup it will give Dads a huge fucking lift. I keep searching for answers on who will guard KD/Etheridge , Keefe will do a fine job, but needs to make his main focus on boxing out, as we saw last week Etheridge/Kd are terrors on the O glass. We all have seen Jesse just keep getting better as last week he was on fucking fire, he will need to be on fire on D in this one to win though can he do it ? In the grit/ depth of Ref will win out, this will be a great game though.

Dads-60 Ref-64

8:45 Hair Vs 3 Headed (Game Of The Night)

Hair is coming off a nice win over Take off, but I they are running into a different animal this week in 3 Headed. Tenney was bottom line easily the best player in the league last week, and looks to have the supporting cast around him for a historic B draft session, I do see him having a game of regression  as he will have to deal with Kap/Leblanc who are two of the best defenders in all of the CAC., I’ll say a lil regression not a lot. Cavano/Solis showed how great of a duo they could be last week, and it just wasn’t scoring, it was the way they passed, and ran the floor together it was truly impressive and admittedly very worrisome. Everyone knows I love my man Chuck but I am issuing a challenge to him , if he can hold one of Cavano/Solis to 10 points then his team wins, if he does not his team will lose, for now all take 3 Headed, Chuck will have to walk the walk here.

GAME 1 Brotherhood vs Team McGirrthy

Civale/Lefty looked deadly in week one, which was somewhat of a surprise given some of the lackluster performances we saw when those two were on the court at the same time last session. Completing your top-3 with Weinstein is great, as he’s always a steadying and consistent force on both ends. But where Team McGirrthy might struggle is on the defensive end. They didn’t have their best stuff on that end in week one, and…who’s going to match up with Manny? And then what do you do with the likes of Evan and Liam? McGirrthy could possibly outscore The Brotherhood if the latter struggles again with their shooting, but I think Manny will re-establish the inside-out game, leading to more shots in rhythm, more offensive rebounds, etc — just enough to carry them to a victory in week two.

Brotherhood 65 – McGirrthy 59

Game 2 Cleared for Takeoff vs Numb Numb 7uice

After a tough loss in week one, Cundall’s squad will get what is likely to be their greatest challenge in terms of matchups. How the hell are they going to cover both Joe and Stat? Granted, Joel/Pollock/Jake should be able to get out in transition and run, but that’s assuming they can get stops and grab the first rebound. A lot of things have to fall their way for them to pick up their first win. At full strength, I don’t quite see it happening. I think Nate’s team flies out of the gates to a 2-0 start, and I think they do so rather convincingly

Numb Numb 7uice 70 – Cleared for Takeoff 58

Game 3 My Two Dads vs A Referee’s Revenge

I have a feeling KD is going to be fucking pumped to play the likes of Jesse, Isaac, and Bully. He knows all of our games–and mentalities–so well, that I think he’ll be able to scheme his way under My Two Dads’ skin. Despite a rusty-looking offense, I really liked what I saw from Ref’s Revenge in game one. I see them improving over the course of the first half of the season, whereas with My Two Dads…I’m not really sure what to expect. Will need a big and controlled performance from Bully, along with some more hero ball from Jesse. Don’t see it happening here.

Ref’s Revenge 70 – My Two Dads 60

Game 4 The Best Hair vs Three Headed Monsters

The nightcap has a chance to be the premier game of week 2. The veteran-laden Gans squad facing off against the team with, I think, the most talent up and down the roster. Cavano and Solis looked dynamic in week one, and with Casey absolutely balling the last month, Three Headed Monster seems poised to have a great run. But Gans/Leblan/Kap could go off at any time, and you’ve gotta love all the experience and passing ability there. Oh, and they can shoot the lights out if they can get things going. Hoping for a on possession game, so that’s what I’m gonna predict here. Three Headed Monsters avenge week 1’s heartbreaker in a thriller.

Game 1:

This game feels like a battle of bigs and Manny will always win that battle. So give me team Manny featuring Chas.

Game 2;

This game should be veryyyyyy interesting. A battle between half-court and transition defense. There’s no way Ian’s team can match-up defensively. Joel can only guard one of the STAT and Joe combo. Even then, those are tough match-ups for Joel. He isn’t exactly the size of joe or stat.

Ian’s team needs to get out and run, every chance they get. Speed up the game and force long range shots. You can beat Nate’s squad if you run on them. I think Nate’s team still pulls it out though late.

Game 3:

Bully is fresh off a game winner, but I don’t know how Jesse’s team matches up with KD and their bigs. There should be a lot of buckets in this one. I’ll side with team KD.

Game 4:

This will be a tough game. Kap and Leblanc are a pain in the ass. Sometimes Gans does something good too. My man Chuck is there, fresh off the beating I gave him on Monday, so he’ll be hungry.

BUTTTTT I like our team and think we pull through late on a Sang buzzer beater.

Game 1: I said Mcgirrthy couldn’t score 80 again and boy was I right ……they scored 100. Civale / lefty , Weinstein are a fucking problem right now

Game 2:Joel / Pollock and a big slice of Jet get Ian’s team in track with a very impressive win over Juice

Game 3:Isaac had an inspirational scoring night , but no where near enough for victory as KD/ Etheridge are grinding teams out

Game 4:Hair goes to 2-0 pulverizing 3 headed. Hair looking like the most complete team top to bottom

MVP of the night: Civale ! Dude blacked out and ripped my souls out with 3 after 3 after 3, huge head start in his MVP campaign , his team is looking like a true threat

Chasmanian Devils

Ghost : His 6 O boards were a huge factor in this game . Just always in the right spot at the right time

Isaac: Kid really balled out which is hard to do with all the shit we give him. Most of it is self inflicted , well justified shit but I’ll def give him props when he plays like that

Chuck: was essential to his teams win , did a bit of everything , love the aggressiveness even got a lil chippy !

Power Rankings

Dads: Much better showing , but this is where they stay until they win

Brotherhood: one week we can’t shoot the next we let up 100 , roller coaster . We are here now , I promise we won’t be in this spot for long

3 Headed : Thought they would come out on fire after last week but laid a major egg. Showed some flaws during the loss as well

Juice: This game showed that if Nate isn’t playing his best this team is in real trouble

Take off: The Jet effect  has the flying up the rankings . They looked like they had a ton of fun cruising around dimeing eachother up

Ref: They will grind u the fuck out , need them to hit more shots for them to get into the top 2

Mcgirrthy: This team is so hot right now !

Hair: This team is rock solid , so much b ball IQ , and multiple closers easy choice right now

Polly, you are clearly bad at math..6pts from behind the arc = an efficient 18pts via drives, floaters, fades

Also, note the 1 block as there will most certainly be 1 waiting for you as well my friend. See you in a few weeks! (on the court at least)

Grind Them Out 2: KD/Etheridge Claim Another Victim

Thursday was here , and we had two teams headed in the wrong direction.  Ref Revenge was coming off a very impressive win over a formally top rated Brotherhood squad, and The Dads were beat up by Civale and his 3 point shooting firework show. Etheridge would get his day started right away with a nice floater, and if he has that touch going then Ref Revenge is deadly. We had major slop ball for about 3 minutes where both teams where chucking up some bad ones, but Mc1 would end the drought with a midrange as he was fed by KD, KD liked that so much he would have an O board assist to Etheridge, the score would run all the way up to 11-0 as the Dads just looked lost, Haas kept telling his boys “calm down guys , calm down “. Haas would hit a midrange as the Dads has their first field goal of the game it was 11-3 with 9:55 left to go in the half …….yikes. I can say the Dads had KD and Etheridge in foul trouble as they both had 3 in this early point of the game. Ref Revenge did not care though as Mc1 would find Russo for 2 15-3. Jesse would get going as he sparked a run, hitting some jumpers, Rudy would add in a sick up and under and we had a respectable game at 17-10 with (7:27) Dads would continue to separate as Mc1 would convert a dirty as spin off the glass lay in oh my lord ! it was 25-14 with 4:31 left. Weird play where it looked like Haas/Tyler boxed eachother out, and Ghost was just stading there for the O board finish, def some eye rolls and Jesse on the sideline “ wha the, what the fuck” it was 27-16. Dads would knock the dust off from here though as Haas did a good job finding a streaking Isaac for 2 , then Isaac would splash a 3 ball, capped off by again Haas finding Isaac who was running well. Haas would nail a midrange in transition , what a run by the Dads showing they can take a lickin and keep tickin, Kd would bring their mood down a lil as he would bank a jumper in at the buzzer it was 30-27 Ref Revenge.

KD doing a great job driving the ship as he would find an openMc1 for 3. Haas was locked in at this point as he would convert a silky smooth turnaround jumper it was 33-29. Isaac was burning Ref Revenge all night as Jesse found him again, then Isaac contoured his impressive effort with a 3 ball, Dads have the lead 34-33 !. Haas banked a beauty in giving his team the 3 point cushion. Dads continued their strong play, but Ghost finally stopped the bleeding with a jumper it was 40-35 with 13 min left. Ref Revenge would gather the troops, and really take this game over from here, some great passed by KD/Etheridge , and Etheridge finding a mismatches in the post as Mike was scoring on Isaac in the post time and time again, after a KD three ball ref Revenge had turned their night around as they were up 46-40 with 8:31 to go. Isaac would not quit as he would have a sexy fade away, then finished in transition as Ghost fired a jumper right back at him. Isaac would finally get in on the passing game as he found Bully, Bully would hit both ft’s next possession, and suddenly we had a 50-48 game with 5 min left. Every time Dads would battle back it was Etheridge who would be the thorn in their side all game, as he would block the shit out of someone then scored the transition bucket,  Mc1 would find him, after a nice cut and that was all she wrote Ref-58 Dads 52.

Ref

Etheridge-A-Solid effort, from a solid ass player

KD-B+-Didnt love some of his shots, but when it counted he slowed everything down and got them any shot they wanted. His rebounding is a game changer right now.

Mc1-B- Did a ton of good things, but his D on Isaac was not great, spin shot was the highlight of the whole night

Ghost-A-) Didn’t score a ton, but his O boards where so fucking key, right spot, at the right time

Russo-B-)Awesome in the 1st half, slowed down in the 2nd

Dads

Haas-B+-Solid ending numbers, but this team somehow needs even more from him.

Keefe-C-Not looking like the same player from last session

Jesse-C-His worst one in a while

Isaac- A-) Really kept them in it at times, you like to see more dimes as the primary ball handler though

Rudy-C+- Gets the + for his sick up and under, didn’t do much else though

Tyler-C-) Play free my friend, your way to tight !!

3 Headed 0-2, Left Soul Searching

3 Headed took part in one of the best opening games I’ve ever seen last week, they lost, but they looked damn good. Hair one the battle of the guards last week, but they had a much tougher task ahead of them with Cavano/Solis patrolling around, the task would be handled much easier than I thought. Andy would get things going for his team as he would drain a 3 ball,  Cavano liked the way that looked at hit one himself, as 3 Headed was firmly up 6-1 with 16 min to go in the half. Leblanc and Chuck continue to work on the two man game as Marc dimed up Chuck for 2 it was 6-3. Leblanc would tie it with a nice balanced 3 point shot 8-8. Miller would shake his man with a crossover dribble, then alertly snuck a pass to Leblanc for his second straight 3 ball 11-8 Hair at this point. The pace picked up , and it was hellish to keep up, Cavano would go to the bank for a 3, after a defensive stop Casey would come flying down then land , stooped on a dime, hung in the Hair, drained the shot, he could score with the move, 3 Headed pulled ahead 15-14. Chuck would go to work all day long, as he converted a bay hook off the glass. Kap would finally get in the mix, as he would nail a no hesitation deep 3 it was 19-15 hair at the 10:38 mark. Kap would take Caseys money, then got disrespectful with the pull up 3 ….bang !Tenney would respond back with a nice find ,as Cavano hit a try ball 23-18 Hair. Gans with a captain shot hit a 3 to keep his team out in front. Kap would show off his bag of tricks with the controlled up fake, that developed into an easy two. Solis finally made an impact as he drove down the lane nicely for 2 it was 28-21. Harry would try and proive some lift from the bench as he had a O boards finish that pulled his team within 7 3-23, but a huge flurry from Hair at the end of the half where Gans would hit a 3, Kap would hit a 3 all with the Street Fighter Ehonda 100 hand slap it was 42-27 at the half.

Hair would continue their assault as Gans found chuck for a nice jumper! Cuck was a man on a mission after Harrys forum comments as he would add an O board big man finish it was a 20 point lead with 18 min left. I can say this 3 headed showed no quit, and really put together a gutsy run here. Tenney would get them going as he hit is patented deep 3. He would add a strip steal finish; Casey again would nail his hanging mid-range that I love. Solis would find Cavano for a 3 ball, Andy would hit a 3 what a fucking flurry. Gans would end all the worry with an O board put back, and his team would putt them away from there, Chuck hits some clutch Ft’s and hair goes to 2-0. Hair 59 3 headed 53

3 headed

Tenney-B+- Waited too long to kick into action, but almost brought them back from the dead

Solis-C+-I’m used to him making more of an impact out there, needs to be more part of the flow of the O.

Cavano-A-)His shooting was key, not rebounding the way I am used too still.

Andy-C-where are my dimes ?!!!!

Harry-C-) Didn’t seem into the game at all

Hair

Leblanc-B-Nothing big and flashy, just got the job done

Gans-A-)Doing a  bit of everything , kid just keeps getting better

Miller-C- He can play better

Chuck-A-Did everything his team needed him to do.

Kap-A-) Was fuego in the 1st half , calmed down but still a very good complete night.

Thank you for the write up Chas and nicely captured.

I am really happy with the way our team is playing right now but this league is stacked right now so I am not ready to make any bold predictions (like Chas after every draft) but I do feel confident in being in contention to the end.

Chas spoils us once again with his awesome write-ups! Watching every team play, it’s clear that there’s not going be any easy W’s this session with how much talent there is.

Look forward to this week’s matchup. Going to be a tough one with the way Civale has been playing lately. Man is on a tear averaging 32+ppg and you add Lefty to the mix which only makes things harder.

Losing my momentum fellas. Long nights at work plus not being able to play for a year…apologies for the lateness of this. Will do my best to get these to you on the weekend moving forward.

GAME 1 Team McGirrthy 100 – Brotherhood 75

With no Manny for Brotherhood, we saw a radical departure in strategy from what we’ll likely see the rest of the season. They came out firing every 3 they looked at, and…oof. 7/21 in the first half from 3, but they must have started out 0-10 or so. Might have hit one. These early misses coupled with not much happening again on the offensive glass, and it was quickly a double-digit lead for McGirrthy, who consistently got the shots they wanted, and even when they didn’t, they were knocking shit down anyways. So many walk up 3s from NBA range from both Civale and Lefty in this one. A truly classic performance from the two B Draft legends. Weinstein and Paul even hit 1st half treys. Mix in a balanced attack, with Weinstein hitting his midrange stride, McGirr finishing around the rim, and Paul attacking effectively, and McGirrthy’s led 48-28 at the half.

Brotherhood would manage to score 47 of their own in the second half…only to be outdone by McGirrthy, who ended up with 52 in the half and 100 in the game (in 38 mins technically, as ref called it early). It’s true that Lefty and Civale and Lefty were hitting just about everything they looked at, but it’s also true that Brotherhood played, at times, really bad defense, allowing McGirrthy to run and find good, open looks after both makes and misses.

A positive for Brotherhood that they were able to knock down shots, which will be huge when Manny returns, but letting any B Draft team drop 100 is troublesome, regardless of the circumstance. Big statement win for McGirrthy.

GRADES

McGirrthy

Lefty (A) A classic Lefty performance. Walk-up 3s, 6 assists, all over the boards, a difference maker on the defensive end. That’s right. I remember now why he’s a top 3 pick every session.

Civale (A+ MVP of the night) 7/10 from 3, 3 big blocks, serviceable on the boards. Dagger after dagger after dagger.

Weinstein (A-) I forgot how good Mike is. Glad to have you back. Couldn’t miss form the midrange. Must have shot 75% from the field. Absolutely took Chas to task, but like…there was literally nothing Chas could do. Will look for Weinstein to have more assists in future contests, but overall a great outing.

McGirr (A-) Did everything they need him to do. O boards, stayed out of foul trouble, finished around the rim. Nice work from Pat.

Paul (B+) I’d give him an A- if he’d gotten into double figures, which would’ve made 5/5 players. But still solid work from Paul. Hit some nice shots to take a little pressure off the big 3. Nice work on the boards, too.

Brotherhood

Chas (B-) A decent stat line for Chas, and I thought he facilitated the offense well. But just not enough of an adjustment on D. Only took one of his timeouts, and he really need to take one early and reset the defense somehow.

Evan (A-) Started cold as ice from the field, and that hurt, but eventually found his shot and rhythm out there, which was nice to see after..not his best session last time around. Will need Evan to play this well when it counts for the rest of the season.

Liam (B+) Befuddles me why Liam won’t look for his shot like this every game. Still ended up with 5 assists, even with his shot volume. Take note, Liam.

Kenny (A-) For a 6th man, Kenny balled. Really for any pick not in the first two rounds. Hit a bunch of 3s, two nice steals, and was generally getting after it.

Fasano (C) Has so far been the weak link. Just isn’t being aggressive enough. Has the talent, but is paying passive right now.

GAME 2 Cleared for Takeoff 80 – Numb Numb 7uice 64

Was wondering when we’d get our first real look at what’s possible pairing two guys who can run for days, make tough, contested midrange shots, and pass with the best of us all. Joel and Pollock were incredible in this game, and it started early with Pollock finding Joel to get him going with a couple early shots. 7uice was struggling once again with shot selection, and Cleared for Takeoff jumped out to a 10 point lead early. But just as we saw the great potential of Cundall’s dynamic duo, Stat and Joe rebounded from a slow start, with Stat attacking the rim and Joe finally taking something other than a Harden 3. Despite struggling for much of the half, 7uice was only down 3 at the half.

And with a deep 3 to start the second half from Joe, it looked for a moment like 7uice might hit the gas and pull ahead. But a quick 9-0 run sparked again by Joel and Pollock extended the lead, and soon after it was a double-digit game again. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Jet here, as he was more than serviceable as a 3rd option, dominating at times in the 2nd half, attacking the rim at will and just blowing by guys, living up to his name. 7uice never made the adjustment to force him left, and it really hurt them, even when Pollock and Joel had short-lived cold spells. Sammy Big Boards put up some solid minutes, and especially played well in the second half on defense. Cundall struggled, but he luckily didn’t need to play his best with his squad doing everything in super efficient and effective fashion. 21 team assists will do the job.

For 7uice, the scoring was predictably top-heavy, with Stat and Joe doing the most damage. Ott and Ken struggled off the bench, and Scott didn’t do nearly enough for a 3rd round pick, especially given what Jet did for Takeoff. Nate also had a tough outing. So basically they ran into a buzzsaw in the second half — a top-heavy, unbalanced performance mixed with a balanced and dynamic attack from Takeoff. The result? A win going away for Takeoff, and a message to the rest of the league that when their top 3 is balling, they’ll be a tough out.

GRADES

Takeoff

Cundall (C+) A tough start to the season individually for Ian. Missing a lot of shots we’re used to seeing him hit. 4 assists are nice, but a lot of that credit has to go to the guys finishing tough shots on the other end of those passes.

Sam P (A-) Didn’t do as much on the boards or on D as we’re used to, but that seems to be a function of matchups, as he was off ball for much of the game. Super efficient work on offense

Joel (A) Joel was dynamic in this one, and if he can be this aggressive all session, look out. Got to the line, made a difference on both ends. The kind of game we all know Joel is capable of every time out.

Jet (A) Best game I’ve ever seen Jet play. Relentless on the attack in the 2nd half, which was a big reason why Takeoff was able to pull away. Was also solid on D and the boards

McAlpine (B) Starting to expect more out of Sam, and it’s probably time for him not to be near the bottom of the draft board. He’s playing with so much more intensity, and is much more confident, especially on defense and the boards, which should elevate his stock.

7uice

Nate (C) Didn’t like the way Nate played in this one. Shot a bunch of bad 3s, only 2 assists, missed at the line. Will need to play much better for his squad to play up to their potential. Also played too many minutes.

Joe (C+) Had a nice little run of shotmaking in the second half. But after 2 games, he’s shot 30 3s. Joe’s too talented at all spots on the floor for that kind of game. And only 4 boards? High volume = points, but I didn’t like his performance here.

Stat (A-) The lone bright spot for 7uice. Kept his team in it for longer than they had business hanging around in the second half. Was also attacking and playing with passion and energy. Just didn’t get the support he needed.

Scott (B-) Was efficient when he did score, but given the struggles of Joe and Nate, probably needed to look for a bit more of his own on offense.

Ott (C) Middling game for Ott. Just didn’t seem to have much of an impact on either end, and got into quick foul trouble.

Ken (C) Ditto for Ken. I honestly can’t recall his minutes that well.
