B Draft S19 Week 3:Teams Flying up, Teams Falling Down

Week 3 is here, we have 3 undefeated teams, and we also have 3 winless teams……………..mine included unfortunately. I think all teams have some slither of hope  , it’s all about building and trying to build cohesiveness and I have seen all teams stay together , and keep good attitudes even with some tough starts. Its real easy to have good attitudes when things are going well, its when your team goes through the rough patches is where you find out the true value/character of your squad.

6:15 PMThe Brotherhood   vs.My Two Dads  MLK Jr

The dreaded 6:15 game, we shall see if Manny makes it, all arrows are pointing to yes, but there are things that could keep him out regardless of the plan. I also may have another key player out; he is currently in quarantine being tested for rabies and other sexually transmitted diseases so lets just say hes very questionable. Dads showed some good fight last week, but was very very top heavy with Haas/Isaac scoring about 90% of their points, that wont get it done. My team let up 100 points that’s certainty won’t get it done, but we scored 75, ill chalk that game up to a team just having the best game of their lives. If my squad is full strength there is just no way I see us losing, the matchups are too heavy in our favor.               BrotherHood-69 Dads-61

7:05 PMCleared for Takeoff  vs.Three headed Monsters  MLK Jr

The jet was in the building and Ian’s vision was on full display as they were literally “flying” all over the place, showing that their lack of size really isn’t a factor at all. Three Headed looked like a true contender in week 1 even with the loss, but showed the some flaws last week, with a hint of be disgruntled players hitting me up on  Facebook messenger , not loving their role. I think Three Headed comes out with their hair on fire, as they don’t want to drop to 0-3, this will be like a playoff game. Casey will have to deal with Joel so I think he’s limited just enough for Take Off to get the job done. If Solis/Cavano can use their size advantages then they could change this fate, but they gota be bruisers. Takeoff 72 – Headed 71

7:55 PMThe Best Hair  vs.Numb Numb 7uice  MLK Jr

This is a very interesting game, I have no clue how these teams will match up with each other, there’s gonna be so many cross matches, and weird match ups. If Nate has to guard one of Kap/Leblanc I really don’t like that matchup for him, I love Nate but those guys are just so tough, and  have been super effective on both ends  for a very long time. Id like to see Big Joe drive a lil bit more, and use his frame to his advantage , maybe even develop some P n roll with STAT, if they got that going it would be mighty tough to stop. With Juice needing Nate to play and A level game, and his tough guard match ups I just don’t see it happening in one, one glimmer of hope is if STAT can destroy his matchup, but I look for the balance of Hair to win out. Hair 64-Juice 59

8:45 PMTeam McGirrthy  vs.A Referee’s Revenge  MLK Jr GAME Of The Night

Mcgirrthy is shutting all the haters the fuck up and have been just pounding teams into submission. The 3 point shooting is scary enough, but with Weinstein taking great higher efficient shots it really gives them all the pieces. Ref Revenge another pre season low ranked team, has been grinding teams the fuck out backed by incredible rebounding by KD/Etheridge , and the ability to get good shots on almost every possession. They come to clash here like two freight trains full steam ahead where one team with be 3-0 when the dust settles. I’m gonna go with Mcgirrthy as Lefty/Civale/Mcgirr do hard work boxing out KD/Etheridge, and Ref Revenge does not score enough points to win. I have a feeling Ghost goes off but it wont be enough. Mcgirrthy-73 Ref 64

I know your a solid player Nate, would I put you in the Kap/Leblanc tier no, its a hard match up for about 97% of guards in B draft myself fully included.

Game 1: No Evan, no Jesse, and Manny is banged up so we had a good battle, my team lead wire to wire, Dads fought back but just didn’t make enough crucial plays highlighted by the best and one you will see authored by ……………………..meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Game 2: The Jet is piloting the shit out of this team, as that right hand is deadly right now, unreal first two games in Bdraft. The Jet helped his team defeat a Tennyless 3 Headed, no Tenney but they are on the ropes at 0-3

Game 3: GOTN- Unreal action in this one, as these teams were throwing haymakers at each other. Hair was able to  gutsy performances by Chuck/Al, to overcome no Kap, and Big Joe pouring out a 40 on their ass. Leblanc has the quietest 29 point, 7 assist night in history

Game 4: No Civale, no rookie for RR, but the train just kept rolling for Mcgirrthy. Lefty played near perfect basketball, and even without Civale, they were able to grind out a team, that has been doing that to everyone else so far.

MVP OF NIGHT-Lefty- I talked about Civale having a lead in the MVP race last week, welp Lefty has surpassed him, problem for the league is there on the same fucking team. Lefty without Civale was a killer he had 34 pts, 9 rbs, 2 ast, 3 blcks shot 4-5 from trey ball land

Notable performances

Big Joe- 41 pts, 5 rbs, 2 stls, 10-10 from the line

Leblanc-29 pts,5 rbs,7 dimes

Cavano- 18 pts, 16 rbs, 4 ast, 4-8 from three

Chasmainian Devils

Jet- Dude has been running down on fools, his finishing ability has been on full display and his team is 2-0 with him there. Kids got a rocket on his back right now he had 21 pts, 4 rbs, 2 ast, 2 stls

Chuck/Al- These guys had a very tough task with STAT/Big Joe, and holy fuck did they rise up to the task. They were straight relentless on the glass per usual, but their scoring was what they needed with Kap out, and they got an A+. Al with 14 pt, 10 boards, Chuck with his best B draft game posted a 22 pts, 13 rb, 2 ast stat line.

Weinstein- I’m gonna say he is playing better on both ends than any guard in the league right now. Stone cold mid range assassin had 17 pts, 4 ast, also held Mc1 to 5 pts.

Mcgirr- 11 pts 17 rbs, trying to get his title back

Power Rankings

Dads-Yikes, no Jesse, but losing to us without Evan, and Manny banged up this was a game they could not lose. I can say this they have def fought, and have been in most games just gota make smarter plays in the crucial moments.

3 Headed- No Tenney last night but 0-3, is 0-3. Its hard to put a finger on why they are losing, they are getting good production out of their top 3, Silva has played, well, Andy hasn’t been great but hasn’t been bad at all. Might be a very bad problem to not know what’s not working, and  keep losing .

Juice-Another team I am shocked to put this low. It’s a very bad loss when you have a player score 40, and cant pull that one out. I don’t see them here for long.

Ref Revenge- Big drop for these guys, as they could not pull one out, even without Civale being there. The offensive droughts might just be this teams Achilles heal.

BrotherHood- No Evan, and Manny prob should even have played on his ankle last night and we still win one leading wire, to wire. I can feel it with this team, so much positivity, bunch of guys out there just bustin their balls for eachother., love it !!!!!!

Take off- This team is soooooooooooooooooooo funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Running, gunning but smart gunning, and even with their size, they are locking teams down. Very nice job Ian .

Hair- Tremendous win without Kap last night, I have nothing bad to say at all, they are doing everything right, and look cohesive as fuck. I just have one team ahead of them, that has been insane !

Mcgirrthy- I think we gave these guys some serious bullentin board material , and they have brought a playoff intensity to every game. These guys are just simply playing out of their minds Lefty/Civale/Weinstein are all in the hunt for MVP, mix in tremendous role players like in Paul/Webert/Mcgirr then u have the number one team right now.

This team is so sick.

I sucked this week and I didn’t even feel any pressure or negativity except from Chas yelling at me from the scores table. Like, everyone on our team can make shots and/or get to the hole when they want to. Combine that with pick-pocket defense, unselfishness all around, and positive attitudes/vibes and you’ve got a fun fun fun team (that happens to be 2-1!). This is gonna be a hell of a season #ThankYouIan

Soooo many teams are dangerous right now. I know it’s early, but I’ve never been so amped for the playoffs. Anything could happen and the match-ups are so crazy between some of these teams!

Gotta second this. Having a lot of fun these first few games. No pressure to get back in the game cause everyone on our team can ball and love that we just run the entire game.

Wish they had Tenney but still good to take care of business in a dominant way. Next week against Civale should be a great game

Big Joe Scores 40, but Hair Don’t Care

Looking around the gym at the start of this one, we had no KAP!!! This would certainly change this matchup, and put a ton more pressure on AL/Chuck. Al would get going right at the tip and he swooped in for 2. Big Joe must be reading the papers about his shot selection as he was establishing himself down low early getting an and 1 to go as Gans tried to defend it was 3-2. Leblanc would calmly nail a jumper 4-3 Hair with 18:30 to go in the half. Joe working in the post again got fouled and hit both FT 5-4 Juice. Stat would find Joe on a nice inbound pass, but Gansy would get free for the try ball   and we were tied at 7. Big Joe had that look on his face where I knew he wasn’t going down easy tonight as he nailed the Curry range 3 10-7 Juice with 14:00 left. Big Al would mix in some sexy hook shot action, but STAT ho was quietly doing everything cashed in on a 3 ball, but Big Al was just on his game as he would go off glass for 2 more Juice was up 15-11 at the 10:45 mark. Juice would take control behind some greta ft shooting by Joe as he was 5-5, but Hair would make a run from there as Chuck would make a hard aggressive spin to the cup for 2, then Leblanc with 2 guys in his grill savagely drained the 3 ball, Big Al would get another 2 on a dime from Leblanc, and they had the lead 19-17 with 7:20 to go, well that lead lasted 5 sec as Ken my favorite Cohen would splash a 3 20-19 Juice back up. Nate liked that so much he found Ken for another 3 , I AM EXCITED 23-21 Juice !!! Gans would add in a nice captain response with a mid ranger to tie it at 23, very good ball game so far. Leblanc set up Chuck beautifully for 2 as their established chem is showing up, but a STAT blow by keeps us knotted at 25 with 3 min to go. Gans would deliver another 3 giving his team the 3 point edge. After some Ft’s by both teams Big Joe would drain a Harden step back 3, his team was still down, STAT would find a wide open Nate at the buzzer for a HUGE 3 it was 36-35 at the brake.

Hammond would try and get himself going as he hit 2 ft’s to start the half gicing his team the 37-36 edge. Gans facilitating well finds Leblanc in the post , Austin would add “Gans is the most underrated passer in the league” Hair would make a run as Leblanc would Tom Brady a pass finding big Al for the touchdown 42-37 Hair with 16 min to go. Big Joe wasn’t havin it though, as he converted a strong take on Chuck, Nate would drain a 3 ball after the Leblanc lay in it was 44-42 Hair. Chuck was a man on a mission as he would snatch an O board , the softly layed it in, but theres that man again Big joe hit s a 3 !!! it was 48-45, Chuck would fire back a bucket of his own, only to have Big Joe viciously drained another 3 ball it was 50-48 Hair. Cuck had his midrange game working as he would help Hair keep space 52-48 10:30 to go. Leblanc used his size well on Nate as he converted around the rim, but Big joe would just not quit ! He would hit 2 ft’s then added in a filthy spin move finish 54-52 Hair still though with 9 min on the clock. Leblanc would try and frustrate Juice as he would covert another jumper they were up 60-55, but Joe in siko mode scores, Stat would respond to a Leblanc bucket, Hair was doing just enough to keep the score in their favor 62-59 Hair with 6 min to go. Joe again to the rack, holy lorddddddddddddddd!, STAT would pull Juice within 2 65-63 with just 3:23 left. Leblanc was the answer all night as he would again get space and hit the jumper after another dagger from Chuck, Big Joe would get the tough and one to go somehow it was 69-66 Hair still. Sadly it was Leblanc free throw time, which he did miss one, giving Juice on the chance at hope , but Big joe finally would miss one, Hair with a crazy good win without Kap.

Juice

STAT-B-) Was effective in multiple areas, but took some bad shots, they need him to play better D

Big Joe-A+- In MVP form , did everything he could except get the W

Hammond-C-) let some early misses mess with his head, he will come back stronger no doubt

Nate-B-) Took good shots on O, got cooked on D though

Ken-B-) got his 3 to go, take moreeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Ott-C-) We have seen much better form Ottomatic

Hair

Lebalnc-A- Was the answer all night , seems like that ankle is a non-issue

Gans-B- Solid as ever, got the job done

Chuck-A- His best B draft game , displayed it all, O boards, midrange, finishing, and ft’s.

Al-A-) Kid looked fire up right from the start, was a huge factor in the win scoring and boarding.

Mcgirrthy Giving Birthy To The Number 1 Seed

Mcgirthy has been a polarizing team, where they were doubted in pre season rankings because of lack of “fit”, well they have the number 1 seed to fit into now, not a bad problem, no Civale in attendance no way they can continue this run  against 2-0 Ref Revenge……………………………..

Weinstein continuing his assault on the league as he gets the bucket right away, but an Etheridge floater gets RR going. Lefty would Jordan a fade away 4-2, but Etheridge had it going early as he would covert to tie it at 4 with 17 min left. Lefty has been nack out drunk from 3 as he nailed the deep one, that didn’t even touch the rim 7-4. KD would find a cutting Etheridge as Mike had all 6 for RR. Ghost would hit a ft, and then MC1 would splash in a 3 give RR the 10-7 edge. Both teams would trade blows , lefty would slice in for 2 to tie it, Mcgirr was pumped “ Fuck ya !!!”. Mc1 would calm that down as he found KD for 3 , then Etheridge would dime up Russo. Mcgirr would snatch a O board, and start rumbling down the court full speed “ oh god hes gona kill some one” but he ballerina like stopped ona dime and softly laid it in wow!! It was 17-16. A bunch of lead changes would happen here, a these teams were showing how they win, they are both grinders when the dust settled it was Etherigde converting his patent floater giving RR the 30-27 edge. To end the half Mc1 would show great patience set the table and Ghost rewarded him with the buzzer beater 37-34 RR at half.

Mc1 liked his assist to Ghost so much he hot him for a 3 to start the half, then Mc1 would finish an acrobatic up and under, RR looked like they were grinding another opponent out of the game as they lead by 10 44-34. Weinstein would really get going from here as he would nail a jumper , and dime up Webert, but KD nailed a 3 to keep RR out on front 51-40. Mcgirthy would show some great fight here as they sparked off an incredible run from this point on. Mcgirr with an O board finish, ,Lefty smoothly hits a mid range, , Webert would dime up Mcgirr, , Lefty hits  a3 to pull them with in 2, then ties it with both fts at 54 holy fuck with 9 min to go!!. Weinstein found a cutting Webert an Mcgirthy had claimed the lead 58-56. Etheridge would find Russo on an inbound pass to tie it and stop the bleeding 58-58 with 6:54 on the clock. Ghost would post up and hit a karrem like hook, but Mcgirr would line up a 3 ball ……………bang 61-60 Mcgirthy was up. KD would strip lefty as he acted like he couldn’t hear Austin, and goated Lefty into a steal where he converted what a veteran play ! Austin was laughing his ass off!.  Webert had such a strong 2nd half as he would score to give his squad the lead back they would never lose it. Left would hit a leaner, and then coverted a huge and 1 to put this one away, we had ft’s to end it. Very good win for Mcgirthy, bad loss for RR 75-68.

Mcgirrthy

Lefty-A+- Kids a savage, really like how hes doing everything on both ends, showing the complete arsenal of tricks.

Weinstein-A- Best guard in the league right now, don’t @ me!!

Mcgirr-A- he ONLY had 17 boards, and just 5 in the 2nd half, his 3 sparked his team

Webert-B+- Fought through some tough fouls calls on him, was HUGE in the 2nd  half , they would not have won without his effort.

RR

Etheridge-B+- Started off so good, but his back seized up on him. They need 40 from Maniac Mike.

KD-B+-  Had a tough time with Lefty, got going from 3 but took one to many for me.

Mc1-B-) Good passing but had to deal with Weinstein, who took him out of the scoring game.

Ghost-B+- kept them in it with great scoring but they need more rebounding down the stretch

Russo-B-) plays his role well, seems to always be in good position to make plays.

A Family Affair! And some Isaac quotes, as My Two Dads (0-3) fall to the Brotherhood (1-2)

Isaac, play one, as Keefe gets fouled and goes to the free throw line (makes the first): “Oh fuck yeah Grant! Good hit Grant! Let’s fucking go!”

And we were off. Despite Isaac’s early enthusiasm, it was The Brotherhood minus Evan—who’d been once feared rabid earlier in the week—who jumped out to an early lead on Liam’s play on both ends, who’s consistently been good on the defensive end for a while now but has been uneven. A good sign for the Brotherhood, who were also getting some entry passes into Manny who had a couple solid buckets and kicked it back out when he was doubled to start up good strings of ball movement a few times. And who was finishing off those buckets? Kenny. The 30th pick–I think–? in the draft went 4/6 from 3 in the first half. Kid can just go off.

But Bully was managing to keep them The Dads in it with a couple of nice jumpers and some good work on the boards. Bully is one of the Two Dads, right? Jesse (absent this week) being the other? Isaac also had several nice stretches in the first half, as he used his speed and aggressiveness to his advantage, blowing by a couple of guys on the Brotherhood and scoring at the rim. But The Brotherhood was clearly outplaying Dads, and the 38-31 score showed that, and it seemed like the lead should’ve been even better.

Isaac, on his own baseball-pass assist, from one end of the court to the other: “What a fuckin pass!”

And we were off in the second half, with Isaac trying to continue his playmaking in the second half. But it was Brotherhood who again came out firing on all cylinders, with Manny deciding it was time to take over, and suddenly it was a 14 point lead for Brotherhood. But as has been the case all year, Bortherhood has not been able to limit their opponents to one shot, and these O boards continued to be a factor in this one. They kept it close in the first half, and sparked a run in the second half for Dads.

Isaac, on being asked by Tyler about a sub with ~ 7 minutes left: “No, I’m staying in.”

With Keefe on the O boards, Manny in Manny Time Mode, and a bunch of defensive lapses for Brotherhood, we suddenly had a one possession after Rudy hit his only 3 pt attempt of the game to bring it to a 2 point game. But it was never quite enough. Chas hit an incredible layup on a tough foul by Isaac late (failed to convert the 3 pt play). And then, up late in the game, about a 1:20 left, Brotherhood decided to force a foul from Dads…

Isaac: “You’re playing like bitches!”

Brotherhood outlasts Dads in a game featuring two teams with lots to figure out.

63-61

GRADES

Brotherhood

Chas (A-) Made a bunch of high-impact plays. Shot really well, made up for Evan well on the boards, and despite getting beat by Isaac a couple times, played pretty solid D

Manny (B+) Had an absolutely dominant stretch in the second half, but not the most consistent game for Manny. But can’t deny how he affects the game.

Liam (B-) Was really good for most of the first half, but he just really tends to struggle putting two halves together. Still playing consistently good on-ball defense though.

Kenny (B+) The sharpshooter did what he needed to do. 4/6 from 3 for Kenny.

Fasano (B-) Still not nearly aggressive enough, and looks really uncomfortable shooting, but played better, with a good stretch when it mattered in the 2nd half.

Dads

Bully (B+) We’re still going to see better outings from Bully, but this was a step in the right direction. Still got into foul trouble, which in some ways made it easier for Manny to go off, but overall, much better.

Keefe (A) Really liked how Grant played. Attacked, got to the free throw line, absolutely dominated on the offensive boards. They have to win when Grant plays this well.

Isaac (C+) I’m on the C+/B- line here. The raw numbers don’t really tell the whole story. Isaac was just erratic in this one, and it made it hard for Dads to sustain runs for long enough to finally get back in the lead. And just like…refusing to come out for a few minutes, especially for the guy who you just had to be on the same team with? Thumbs down.

Tyler (B) Speaking of. I think Tyler has carved out a little niche here, which is good to see. He’s sneaky tough on the boards. Lack of scoring hurts on a team that is already streaky at best, but played his role well.

Rudy (B) A good scoring night, and the 3 late was huge. But I actually think Rudy is most effective when he’s picking pockets and squeezing in for offensive boards. Didn’t see as much of that.

“If he wants to jump into me like a fish, that’s his business!” – Cavano, on Jake drawing a foul.

No Tenney for 3-Headed, which killed the dreams I had of one crazy up and down game. It’ll be a shame if these two teams don’t match up at full strength. Ron/Cavano/Tenney vs Pollock/Joel/Abrams would be great fun to watch. As it was, 3-Headed was only hitting 3s early, and they went 8/16, so couldn’t ague with the strategy really. The main problem was on the defensive end, as the pace quickly became frenetic, with Jake and Pollock making plays, and Sang on Jet quickly turned into a shitshow. Chas is so annoyed that nobody is stopping Jet while all this is happening (“You CAN’T let him go right!” etc.). 41-35 at half, up and down as expected.

The second half? Well. Basically, 3-Headed came crashing down to earth from 3 but dug in and shot more, while Takeoff kept right on humming along, but with even more efficiency, moving the ball incredibly well (9 assists in the half). It’s looking like Jake, Jet, Sam P, and Joel is the best lineup on any team. Their versatility and athleticism have made up for size mismatches so far, and they’re having fun playing together, which I’ve always thought is a pretty good indicator of early and often late season success.

With no Tenney to keep up, Takeoff literally runs away with this one

77-60

GRADES

Cleared for Takeoff

Ian (B+) A solid game for Ian after a slow start to the season. Shot still looks flat, but he did the other things that make him effective. Good passing, solid on the boards, finished when he got looks close to the rim.

Pollock (A-) Not his most prolific statistical night, but he also spent a good deal of the second half on the bench, noting that he didn’t really ever feel the need to come into the game. But was part of the 4-headed monster that led the charge.

Joel (B+) Just really makes a huge difference out there, even though he didn’t quite score as much as we’re used to seeing. But I think it’s that Joel plays really within himself on this team. He doesn’t have to attack every possession, but he can play aggressively in smart ways.

Jake (A-) If Jake plays like this, and maybe hits an outside shot from time to time, this team will be a legit contender all season and in the playoffs. 23/9/5 and 2 steals.

McAlpine (B-) I like that he’s taking his shots, but he did miss a bunch in this one. Still, Sam’s improvement on the boards and on defense has been good to see, and he continued that this week.

Jet (A) Definitely the steal of the draft so far. Had stretches in both the first and second half where he just took over. Best #26 pick I’ve seen.

Three-Headed Monster

Sang (C) Hit a few, but just got played by Jet, and just mostly seemed to struggle and be forcing things overall.

Cavano (A-) Chris was excellent and worked his ass off. A balanced game on both ends, but needed more help.

Ron (B) Another uneven game from Solis, who continues to perplex while perhaps caring a bit too much about stats. I like when he plays the way he did in the second half, where he focuses his energy on defense/the boards and is opportunistic on offense. Even though he hit 3 threes in the first, he played better in the second.

Silva (B+) Got what you’d normally like to get fro Ben — a few threes, a clearly improving defensive/rebounding game, and a hard-fought game.

Harry (B+) Harry played really well in this one. Blocked the shit out of Jet, made some really nice passes, added a boost with 8 points.

Good write-up. I’m really loving this new fiesty as fuck Chris Cavano. You use to be able to talk shit to Cavano or yell at him. Now he just spits it right back at you, like he gives no fucks. I love it!

Ian’s team did a real good job of running us the hell out of the building there.
