Welcome to Week 2 of B Draft. It was great to see everyone back on the court last week and this season is already looking like it’s going to be a good one. There was a lot of good basketball last week and some really bad as well, but we can put that behind us now as we are on to week 2. To start things off, here are my updated power rankings (pre-season ranking is in parentheses) and the first ever B Draft Player of the Week. For this prodigious award you get absolutely nothing, so here are the nominees:

– Brian Civale

– Ray Myer

– Calvin Stahl

and the winner is…

Calvin Stahl – 33 and 15 while leading his team to victory when they were underdogs. Calvin was the unanimous choice by our esteemed panel of judges.

Week 2 B Draft Power Rankings

8. Vaxxin and Waxin (5) – Scoring only 41 points and getting blown out while fully staffed, against the last ranked team in the pre-season power rankings will cause a quick fall.

7. Dangerous Nights Crew (6) – Tough matchup week one without McDonald. Still like this team long-term, but no McDonald again this week could lead to another tough week.

6. Silva Dolla (2) – Tough to judge them since they were missing Tenney week one. Will learn a lot more about how their offense will flow when he is back.

5. Sheffield (8) – Stock up. The surprise team of week one, but I’m still not sure if this team is actually good or if Vaxxin and Waxin are just really bad. We will find out more this week.

4. Civale (1) – They lost so have to drop them a bit, but it was a close game and they were missing Hof. Long-term I think this team will be just fine, but we need to see how Hof fits with the rest of their players on the court.

3. Miyagi-Do (7) – Looked very good against a team missing their best player. Need to see them against a fully staffed squad to have a better idea of how they look.

2. Armstrongageddon (3) – I like where my team is at right now and was really impressed with our offense as we dropped 81 points, albeit against an undermanned team. We will know a lot more after this weeks game against the top team in my power rankings.

1. Length > Girth (4) – This team can beat you so many ways. Anyone on their team can drop double-digits in a given night and they have the high-end scorers to be able to comfortably win even when their first-round pick has an off-night.

6:15 PM Miyagi-Do vs. Vaxxin and Waxin

Kicking off week two, we’ve got an intriguing matchup between 1-0 Miyagi-Do and 0-1 Vaxxin and Waxin. Both teams are coming off blowouts, but very different types. Miyagi-Do had a relatively easy game against a Tenneyless Silva Dolla. I’m not sure how much we can take away from that game given Tenney’s absence. Swecker and Vladi did their thing and I was very impressed with the play of secondary pieces on Miyagi which was a question mark heading into the year. Vaxxin and Waxin on the other hand, really struggled, while full staffed, against a consensus bottom four team in the pre-season power rankings, They scored by far the few3est points in the league, barely cracking 40 and their offense looked all out of sorts. Vaxxin is a veteran team however, and you can be sure Billy will have his team motivated to play this week.

For Miyagi-Do they just need to do more of the same from last week on offense. The key to their offense is getting Swecker and Vladi going. Neither had to be that aggressive last week as the game was never really in doubt and when they did run some two-man actions together it was to great effect. If those two can be as efficient as last week they will be really hard to stop again this week. My biggest question heading into the season was where is the secondary scoring going to come from for this team and last week the answer was everyone. If Miyagi-Do can get 35 points per week from those players then this team is going to be a problem. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how sustainable that is given the career averages for those four players, but at least one will have to step up for the team to score at the level they need to.

Defensively for Miyagi-Do, things were looking pretty straightforward this week until – BREAKING NEWS – Zach Webert is out this week. Knowing that, I think Harry will put Vladi on Leblanc, Swecker – Nestler and Harry and Motha on Noah and Billy. The first two matchups are classic CAC battles, but the later two are the most interesting to me. I have no doubt Harry will have informed Motha of Noah’s limited move set so that one should be pretty straightforward. That then leaves the other of Harry or Motha on Billy. Either of them will be at a foot speed disadvantage, but given Billy’s week one performance, might Harry be ok with Billy taking as many shots as possible? We will find out tomorrow.

For Vaxxin and Waxin, they need to burn the tape from last week’s game on offense and do the opposite of whatever they did then. Making shots would be a good start, but most importantly they need to get Leblanc and Nestler going. In a league this competitive, you can’t expect to win when your first two picks combine for 19 points. Leblanc has one of the smoothest jump shots in the league, but at times he can get a little passive. He’s got to be aggressive looking for the ball and for his shot and similarly Nestler needs to do the same. Second, they need to be more efficient from deep. They went 2-18 last week and will need to get that percent up to at least 30% in my opinion to have a chance this week. With Webert out, Billy will have to be aggressive as he will have a big on him, but at the same time he can’t focus solely on his own shot and needs to look to set things up for the other players on the team.

Defensively, this is a great chance for Nestler to show why he was a first-round pick. Swecker had a really solid performance against a quality big last week and slowing him down is best way to get Miyagi-Do out of their offense. For the rest of the matchups, Billy will have the tough task of slowing down Vladi and Leblanc and Noah will get to battle down low with Harry and Motha. On paper thesee matchups make a lot of sense for Vaxxin and given their offensive struggles, they likely will need a standout defensive performance to make up for those offensive limitations.

Looking at the players these teams will be throwing out on Wednesday, I would not expect a fast paced and high-scoring game. Both teams will look to play more out of the half-court and it is a great opportunity for Vaxxin and Waxin to show that their week one performance was an outlier, not the norm. While I think in the end Miyagi-Do will pull out the win, I think Vaxxin and Waxin keeps it close and within the number.

Vaxxin and Waxin +8.5 against Miyagi-Do

7:55 Sheffield vs. Silva Dolla

Like our first game of the evening we have another matchup between teams that won and lost in blowouts last week. Sheffield was the surprise team from week one after a comprehensive win over Vaxxin and Waxin, while Silva Dolla got blown out by Miyagi-Do, albeit while missing Casey. Assuming Casey is back, this should be a good game and go a long way to telling us how good Sheffield’s team actually is.

In their week one victory, Calvin and Harding showed they belong in the conversation about the top duos in the league. Both scored 20+ last week and they will need more of that this week as I still have questions about the scoring ability of the rest of that team. One area those two could improve is three-point shooting. Calvin did knock down seven triples last week, albeit on 18 shots, but Harding was 1-10. Harding shot 38% from three last season and he’ll need to be a lot more efficient this week against Miyagi-Do who showed they can really score. Lagno and Sheffield also both struggled with their shots and did last season as well. Lagno especially will need to step up and establish himself as the third scoring option.

Defensively, I suspect they will start with Harding on Casey, Lagno on Kap and Calvin on Walker. Though they are lacking a true big, Calvin has shown the ability to defend them and Walker isn’t a major post threat so that lack of size likely won’t be exposed this week.

For Silva Dolla, the most important thing for them is to efficiently integrate Casey into the offense and let him cook. They really struggled without his playmaking and his presence alone should open things up for Kap, Silva and Dodakian. One bright spot this week, who I think will have a good matchup against a suspect Sheffield bench is Silva. He dropped 18 last week and if he can be a consistent double-digit scorer this team could have a dangerous offense with Casey involved.

Defensively is where Silva Dolla needs to show the most improvement from last week. They really struggled to stop Miyagi-Do, especially inside. When Walker gets dragged away from the hoop, they are dangerously small inside. That is likely to be the case this week and Calvin is the biggest player on Sheffield’s team, but he prefers to play on the perimeter. Someone else will have to protect the paint with Walker likely dragged away, especially Harding is one of the most dangerous players off-the-dribble in the league.

Assuming full availably for both teams, this is a really interesting matchup. Both teams are perimeter oriented and will want to make a statement after last week’s games. I still don’t have great feel for Sheffield’s team, but they have to be the favorites. This one should be close, however, but I think in the end they pull it out.

Sheffield -2.5 over Silva Dolla

Armstrongageddon vs. Length > Girth 7:05p Game

Due to the new weekly rankings, we get to see a nice little 1 vs. 2 match-up in the second game of the evening. Armstrongageddon looked good in their rookies debut against SEX, but now they face a tougher challenge in Length> Girth, who can match their athleticism. Of course, this is true vice versa too, Cavano’s team faced a short-handed squad last week and barely pulled through.

My sources in OLD last night, told me that Cavano matched up with Myer and was able to keep him in check. That’s big news for this game, because if Cavano can hold down Myer by himself, that frees up Kodra or Dwyer for Armstrong and Danzig. Myer, admittedly looked good in week 1, but this is whole different team for him. Just being a pure athlete isn’t going to get it done for his team this week. Cavano’s team is going to be ok playing at a high pace.

However, once again, the same is true vice versa. Length > Girth didn’t look too hot offensively last week, which is pretty concerning, based on the competition they face. Civale’s team had a bench guy on the floor for all 40 minutes, plus Civale himself and Djordje, neither of which are fleet afoot. I would have expected L>G to have scored a lot more points. but they looked pretty sluggish. They have a lot of guys who are pretty similar to each other, so offensive chemistry is going to take a minute to find. It’s going to be up to Pollock to get the offense going and score his usually amount of points. The good thing for him, is that Joel won’t be guarding him this week, so I expect a better offensive output.

Another guy I’m going to be looking at this week, is Armstrong. He seemed to be playing a secondary role last week, which is interesting of a first round pick whose a guard. I think he’s going to have to have a good scoring output this week, in what I’m calling a rock fight type of game. He spent most of last week in the post, because Jet was on him, but I don’t see there being any room for him there this week. His outside shooting game is going to have to be on.

I’m going to set the under of this game at 105.5. I don’t see a whole of scoring from either team. What I see is a bunch of offensive rebounds off bad looking shots, followed by a bunch of missed lay-ups. These teams are almost mirrors of one another, which means it’s going to be up the best players to assert themselves. IMO those two guys are Pollock and Armstrong. Whoever wins that match-up, will win this game and I’m going to pick Pollock. After what Ian did to him last season, then passing on him this season. I’m calling for Joel’s favorite game, A REVENGE GAME!

Length > Girth -3 over Armstrongageddon

SEX vs. Civale 845p Game:

Boy, what a game, MacDonald against Hof. Oh wait, MacDonald abandoned his team for the first two weeks and won’t be there. MacDonald’s absence was certainly felt last week and well, it’s about to be felt again this week. Of course, that’s assuming Hof isn’t abandoning his team again either. Both these teams took an L against the two top ranked teams in the league. Not that bad of a loss, since they were both missing top guards, but now SEX is going to have to play another week without MacDonald and presumably against Hof.

As is the case when you face a Hof team, one must figure out who exactly is going to guard Hof. The problem is in the above paragraph, which leaves only two options for SEX, Calderan or Jet. Each guy has the same issues against Hof, he can shoot over both of them. Jet, is a legendary steals man, but Hof rarely turns the ball over. SEX, might want to throw out a different kind of defense other than man in this one. I could see Joel being a problem here too, since Roberts/Bully will have to be on Civale/Djordje. I see a whole lot of good match-ups for team Civale in this game. SEX, is going to have to slow this pace down to a crawl and limit possessions, while being efficient offensively.

On the other end of the floor, Civale’s squad matches up nicely with team SEX. They can pick and choose who they want to guard the Bully. I would go with Joel, but maybe Civale wants the match-up, instead of chasing a guard around. You can stick Djordje on Roberts and be ok with that as well. Simply put, someone on SEX is going to have to overcome their match-up and get buckets. I could see this being a Jet game, where flies for buckets. UConn Girls practice squad star, Paul Calderan, could be in for another good game as well. Although, Calderan usually spaces out his scoring outburst throughout the season. The backcourt is going to need to come up huge for SEX.

SEX, really could use MacDonald, but such is life. He isn’t there and I don’t see how they keep up with Civale in this game, unless Hof loses his mind. Civale, just has too much firepower and team SEX would need someone’s game of their life or multiple ones. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR would need to hit at least three 3s. Can this happen? For a win, IT HAS TO!

Civale -10.5 over SEX

I’m not used to having all this pre-game reading material, good work boys!

Regarding me spending time in the post, that is a pretty regular occurrence. Doesn’t matter who it is…. Send Swecker’s weak ass at me and I’ll give him the business too.

Regarding Harry’s marquee matchup of the night, me v Sam. He doesn’t want any part of me. I’d bet the guy doesn’t even show up.

I can’t believe Armstrongageddon only shot 50% from three. I feel like they didn’t miss a shot in the second half.

Harry was so right, and then so wrong.  Was a great game in the nightcap last night, lot of fun.

So glad our name is SEX again.

Not enough length or Girth for Armstrongageddon

I thought this might be the game of the night, but was quickly disappointed to find out Pollock and Kodra would be out for LG. Danzig, would also be out for Armstrongageddon, leaving us a little less excited. However, LG claimed to have depth on their team, so let’s see what happened. TO THE ACTION!

Ryan Glynn, would fill-in for LG, as we waited for Clapp to show up. Apparently, Myer heard the rumblings of Cavano limiting him in OLD on Monday, so he came out with a purpose early on in this game. He had 16 first half points, to go along with 3 blocks, 9 boards, with a steal and an assist. There would be no limiting of Myer or anyone on his team tonight. Armstrong, would also “chip in” with 16 points of his own, along with 6 boards and 5 assists. Are you starting to sense a trend here?

On the other end of the floor, it was the Dwyer show, chucking up shots like he may never see them again. I did like the extra aggression though, since he, like my friend Dan Clasby on Tuesdays, tends to disappear from time to time. He was even shooting 3s from out in Hof land, but he did manage to score 15 first half points. Not a bad output. Kerk, was back to his sexy first half ways as well, scoring 9 points, with 14 rebounds and three assists. There were plenty of good stats to go around in this game.

Armstrongageddon, went into the half up 49-35. It’s safe to say that defense was very optional for both teams in the opening 20 minutes. Not the kind of game you want if you’re LG, who has capable defenders, even down two guys. Would things get better? BACK TO THE ACTION!

Spoiler alert! No, they wouldn’t get any better. This half was an absolute shit show for LG, who let Ian’s team run wild all over them. Armstrong, would record a triple double. Ian and Tyler, would go on triple double watch during the second half. Johnson, would hit 5 three pointers, Tyler would hit 4 three pointers and on and on the stats would pile up for Armstrongageddon. Hell of a performance by these guys, lots of great ball movement.

As for the other guys, holy fuck, play some damn defense. This was a team that everyone, including myself, clamored about defensively and they just let Ian’s team shit right in their mouth. Kodra and Pollock are good players, definitely keys to victory, but come on now. Dwyer, Cavano, Kerk and from what I’ve seen of Clapp, are capable defenders. Every single one of them got taken to the cleaners for all 40 minutes. I don’t care about any of their second half stats, so let’s move on.

We spent the majority of the second half in pick-up mode, Armstrongageddon eventually got to a 100 points and stamped their card as the league’s best team at the moment. LG, needs a week of self reflection. 105-68 Final.

Grades

Everyone on Armstrongageddon deserves an A+, so that’s what they’ll get. Apparently, Danzig was holding them back from their true potential last week.

L>G

Usually, I’m more forgiving when teams are missing guys, especially a first round pick. HOWEVER, this team is suppose to have depth and after this performance, they showed they have NONE. They are getting a D-, for this performance.

Was a hell of a nightcap game. Jet beat us up early and then Haas was unconscious with deep twos late. Felt like he was putting his foot on the line to spite us before drilling jumper after jumper.

meanwhile I gotta think losing by single digits despite going 5-35 from three is a positive sign. Our team is taking a bit to gel but we’ve had a couple good stretches so I’m not worried

Too much SEX for Civale

Two teams coming off tough week 1 losses squared off to end the evening. MacDonald, was still on vacation for SEX, but Civale had everyone, including first round pick Hof. TO THE ACTION!

Hof, celebrated his debut to the league, by hitting one of the lifted up rims. Welcome to the league kid. Obviously, that didn’t stop Hof from shooting, because only God himself could do that. He wasn’t connecting on his shot though, leaving the scoring up to his teammates, who weren’t up for the challenge at all. Civale, did have 9 points though, which led the team. He also tried to give out defensive assignments, but Hof shot him down and called them out himself. Who runs this team? Do we have a coach controversy? More importantly, what do either of them know about defense?

Speaking of defense, the Jet was flying all over Civale’s in the first half. Jet led the team with 12 first half points, to go along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists. I can smell a Jet game a mile away and baby did I hit the mark on this one. The plane was fueled, the snacks were packed and off he went. The Jet also picked up a charge too, which is a sure fire way to get a Tommy point! What can’t the Jet do?

Outside of the Jet, it was a slow, grinding first half. SEX went into the half up 30-23. Civale’s team was a combined 3 for 18 from deep in the first half. They did have some height edges on the floor that they didn’t seem to want to exploit, so what can you do? BACK TO THE ACTION!

SEX came out hot and heavy to start the second half. The Jet continued to fly, while Calderan started to find his shot from deep. Before I knew SEX was out to a 16 point lead, trying to secure their first win of the season. They did a real good job of moving the ball around, maybe a little too much on some possessions, but they were finding the open men. The Jet started to wander into triple double territory as the half progressed.

Civale’s team continued to be stuck in the mud. Many people expected this team to at least be scoring a lot of points, but sadly I knew better. They continued to shoot horridly from deep and when they passed, they weren’t good ones. Joel, is an afterthought in this offense. He didn’t have a single post-up all game, even with Calderan guarding him all game. Djordje, had some nice put-backs, but also had his usual amount of missed lay-ups. David, was a nice little bright spot, hitting 2 of the team’s 5 three pointers. He had some pretty good looks on others too, but they didn’t fall.

Civale’s team did get this down to 5 points, 55-50 with about 3:15 minutes left. It was around this time that Civale had the most athletic play in his career, driving across the floor for a pass that he intercepted. Unfortunately, that would be the last highlight for him and his team. SEX, would get themselves in free throw territory and knock down enough to put this one away. 65-59 Final, Civale didn’t get closer than 5 points.

Grades

Roberts B: Solid game from the captain, who made the best move before the game even started and reclaimed the name of SEX.

Jet A+: This was a classic Jet game, where he was every where and just missed a triple double.

Bully A: A very good Bully game, we love a good 20-20 game any time we can get it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR C+: Hit a three you loser, but I did love the AAAAAAAAAAAMIR assist.

Calderan C+: His defense on Hof was pretty good, but his shot was off in this one from deep and at the line.

Civale

Hof D: Bad Hof game, I’m sure they’ll be better ones.

Joel C: This isn’t the team for Joel, but he can still do better than this. Amir is getting worried sick.

Civale B-: Control your team out there, deserves a B- just from his athletic dive.

Djordje B: Not sure what else you can expect from Djordje, except better defense perhaps.

Haddock D+: I’m going to need Haddock to at least catch some rims on his threes.

DTO B: I liked his shooting off the bench and it looks like his team is going to really need it.

Wild grade for Paul … he was the one to hit back to back 3s to get our lead to 16 … also stealing the hall being rolled up the court at the end of the game? All while being on Hof all game?

I don’t even bend over to tie my shoes … A game for him

The Great Wall of Chinese Food falls

I thought this game might be fun coming into it and as usual, I was right. However, it wouldn’t start that way, because we started the game a bit early and this would cause Casey to be late to the game. He would arrive about halfway through the first half. Sheff’s team would have all their starters and rookie Alex S. and everyone else would be there for Silva Dolla. TO THE ACTION!

This game started the same way last week’s game did for Sheff’s team, with their top 2 guys and Harding, running wild on the opposing team. Lagno, would hit three first half treys as would Calvin, who’s making a strong push for MVP to open the season. Harding, would also add 14 first half points of his own as Silva Dolla didn’t really have an answer for any of these guys in the first half. It’s going to be hard to find teams who can match up with all three guys on the defensive end of the floor.

Naturally, not having Casey there to start, put a damper on Silva Dolla offense. I also think Dodakain was late to the party as well. Matthew and Walker did their part in trying to keep their team afloat. Both men combined for 19 first half points, they had a nice little PnR that was effective for them until Casey could arrive. When Casey did get into the game, he was able to score 8 points, but the lead for Sheff’s team still widened a bit. They also picked up a third timeout tech, the second one of this season! Shockingly, they both came from the teams of noted CAC veterans, Billy and Kap. I guess those guys just run a loose ship of anarchy.

Anways, Sheff’s team went into the half leading 39-27. It was looking like it would be an 0-2 start for Silva Dolla. Also of note, Walker had 3 fouls. BACK TO THE ACTION!

After showing up late and being a non-factor for his team, Dodakain stepped up big for his team in the second half. He would hit three massive 3s for his team and grab some buckets inside as well, to score 14 second half points. They are going to need or Silva to step up each game they play if they want to be true contenders and it was Dodakain’s night (Just not from the free throw line).

The Calvin and Harding show continued into the second half, but Lagno really started to slow down from deep. Lagno, is the key to this team, because he has to be the third option out there and has to score. It doesn’t look like Sheff’s team is going to get much scoring production after the top 3, so the pressure is on the top 3 to score. I think it’s safe to assume Calvin and Harding will be consistent in scoring, but Lagno is a hot and cold player. He did manage to get 3 second assists and four for the game, but those assists went to Calvin and Harding. In fact, every assist was made by passing to the top 3 guys, Sheff and Alex S. didn’t record a bucket. Then Sheff’s team defense started to falter and Silva Dolla actually pulled ahead 51-50 midway through the second half, after trailing for most of the game.

That was when something tragic happened. Something terrible, something that should never happen again. Casey and I think Calvin, plowed over the scoreboard and my Chinese food went every where! DO NOT go for loose balls around my scoreboard table! Spelling my dinner is a capital offense, with the only punishment being DEATH! After we cleaned everything up and a teared rolled down my eye, both teams started trading the lead. It was 60-60 with 6:15 left in the game. Calvin was giving Silva Dolla a lot of problems on the offensive end of the court. They just couldn’t stop him from getting to the cup, but Matthew had the answer from 3 on the other end for his team. He would hit 3 second half treys himself and added 3 assists. There was also a funny Matthew moment, when he told his team no 3s, then I think Harding dribbled right up the court and nailed one.

Silva Dolla took the lead 68-67 with 2:47 remaining, that’s when we started to enter the fouling territory. Dodakain, despite being great for his team every where else, sucked from the free throw line going 1 for 5. However, this being the CAC, Sheff’s team had some trouble getting defensive boards. Walker was able to secure one, but chucked into the back court to Kap, who disgustingly rolled it to KD, because we have back court in the second half. Nonetheless, Silva Dolla was still up 71-70 with 1:35 remaining.

Play-by-Play:

Kap goes to the line, misses the front end of 1-1, defense gets the board.

Calvin, had a nice looking 3 at the other end from the top of the key, but it didn’t fall. Casey, got the board and went to the line.

Casey, would hit both of them. Harding, returned the favor on the other end, but we were under 10 seconds at this point.

1-point game with Dodakain going to the line, he would miss the front end. Calving to the board and they called their first timeout.

Sheff tried a half-court pass to Calvin, bur Casey picked it off and was fouled. Casey, would make 1, then miss the second. Sheff’s team got the defensive rebound and called their last timeout with 1.1 seconds left.

Sheff tried another half-court pass, but it failed again and that was all folks. Silva Dolla picks up a massive win 74-72.

Grades

Alex S. C-: Rough first game for the rookie, between his free throw violation and being unable to connect on a jumper.

Sheff C+: Sheff’s all around effort was good, but he needs to score. Rinse and repeat from him.

Calvin A: He continued look and play like an MVP out there. 4v4 is a brand new beautiful world for him.

Lagno B: No matter what Casey says, I thought Paul played well out there. I’m just no sure 12 points is enough for him on this team and I’m not giving him any tips for next week.

Harding B+: The scoring is there, HOWEVER last season he looked like he could play defense, this season not so much.

Silva Dolla

Kap B+: Hit some huge 3s for his team in the second half, but 1 for 4 from the line stinks and getting assessed a timeout tech stops this from being an “A” territory.

Silva D+: Silva is a lot better than this game, 0 for 2 from 3, no points.

Walker B-: I thought Walker was good, but his foul trouble hurt his team late in the first half and he kind of got torched on D, although that’s not all his fault.

Dodakain A: This would be a plus, but he has to make some free throws for that. Can’t go 1 for 5 and get the perfect grade.

Casey B: I won’t hold being late to the game against, but he was off him 3 and gave up some buckets defensively. However, his clutch free throws did bring it home.

Great write up as always, Harry. Going on the record to confirm I did NOT dive into the scorer’s table, just happened to be nearby when somebody else did

I don’t know why Harry thinks it’s a good idea to give me more motivation for our matchup next week, but here we are.

Vaxxin Waxes Miyagi-Do

If we learned anything from this week, it is week one results can be fluky. Vaxxin and Waxin was coming off a big loss to the last ranked team in the pre-season power rankings, while Miyagi-Do was coming off a comprehensive victory. In his post week one write-ups, Harry had some not so kind words for several of the Vaxxin and Waxin players including giving Nestler and F+ and Leblanc and Billy D’s. I figured that would motivate Vaxxin and Waxin and boy did it seem to. To the action…

Vaxxin and Waxin came out on fire with Leblanc initiating the offense rather than Billy. This really seemed to free things and allowed Nestler to get going early with a couple threes. Meanwhile for Miyagi-Do, Swecker was really struggling with Nestler’s size and physicality down low and after five minutes they found themselves down 13-4. Both offense struggled over the next five minutes as Miyagi-Do’s offense was stuck in the mud. The ball barely moving and when a shot went up it wasn’t close. Vaxxin and Waxin was playing very good defense, but Miyagi-Do has the talent to score against anyone. Vladi was ice cold and Swecker couldn’t buy anything other than a layup. Things continued like that for the rest of the first half with Vladi finally hitting a three with a few minutes left in the first half. That was the only three Miyagi-Do would make in the half, putting up a pathetic 1-13 display. The biggest highlight for Miyagi-Do in the first-half occurred late on after Swecker disagreed with a call and received a rare regular season technical foul. Halftime score 36-17 Vaxxin and Waxin.

hope that some half-time adjustments from Miyagi-Do would make this a close game were quickly shown to be not in the cards as Vaxxin and Waxin came out with a pair of three pointers. Miyagi-Do, however had an answer as they had their best stretch of the game going on a 10-0 run which included a four point play. With the lead cut to 15, Nestler decided he’d had enough and went on a personal 8-0 run to extend the lead back up and put the game out of reach. The rest of the half was basically a pickup game with Vaxxin and Waxin shooting threes and Miyagi-Do playing iso ball and taking a bad shot.  Every player on Vaxxin would hit a three in the second half, led by Nestler and Noah who each hit three and Leblanc who hit two. Meanwhile, things got so bad with Miyagi-Do that Harry was complaining about a lack of touches because the ball was so stagnant. Eventually, the game came to an early end with Vaxxin and Waxin winning 70-47.

Vaxxin and Waxin

Nestler A+: Very impressive all around game from Nestler. Played great defense on Swecker and almost had a triple double with 28/11/8.

Leblanc B: Did a great job intiating the offense and was also on triple-double watch in the second half. 12/9/6 is very solid, but shot was a bit off only going 2-7 from three.

Billy B+: Took a back seat some on intiating the offense, but did a great job off the ball cutting and knocking down open shots.

Noah B-: Struggled from three in the first half, but found his shot late and knocked down three straight threes.

Glynn B-: Played hard and knocked down a three, but still finding his shot.

Miyagi-Do

Swecker C-: 19/16 is solid, but overall pretty disappointing game. Struggled with Nestler’s defense and couldn’t hit from deep.

Vladi D: Quiet game even though he scored 16. Struggled in the first half and really only started scoring when things were out of reach.

Harry C-: Barely touched the ball, but did score one of the few times he did.

Motha C-: 10/6 is solid off the bench, but struggled with his shot and to defend Vaxxin on the perimeter.

Mackay C: Really active on the boards and had a great block.
