#B15v5East Power Rankings | CAC League Discussion | Discussion
April 27, 2012
After Somerville came through at the last minute with one location on Thursday nights (that was then changed, then changed again!) we’ve got an incredibly talented 8 team league playing games at the Winter Hill School (115 Sycamore St – Somerville) starting Thursday 9/16.
Who’s going to run this league? That’s anyone’s guess right now. If I don’t have someone it will be me, which means I’m sleeping on the couch since I’ll be out of the house for 3 nights a week. That’s 3 nights of missed bedtimes, missed arguing about brushing teeth and missed clean-ups after the two Tasmanian #babytibbs are finished destroying the house each night. Now, I’m not saying I don’t WANT to avoid all that, but there’s hell to pay if I do. So we’ll see!!
Anyway, let’s get you a preseason power rankings as we head into the season shall we? The league page is updated here: https://www.cacbasketball.com/B1-5V5-EAST/
If your roster is wrong, let me know ASAP!
#8 – Thank You University – The roster is too small right now. Both in number of players and the size of the players. I know Eli always ends up padding it as the season goes on, but it will be tough sledding until they do.
#7 – Mid-Range Magic – King’s crew made a valient run through the playoffs last seaosn, almost koncking off perennial title favorite Julius Swerving in the second round. Is the roster deep enough to compete in this league? The schedule is absolutely brutal, opening up the first half of the season against all the teams ranked in the top 4. Even if you don’t buy these rankings (and you should) I feel like you always want to ease into the a new league to get your sea legs back. No time for that though for the MRM!
#6 – Somerville Spunk – Drew Dodakian wanted a step up in competition after the team was rolling through the Spring season (only to get upended in the playoffs). Well he might have gotten more than he bargained for. He’s talking a big game, but we’ll need to see the team on the court before I think they’re going to make noise. They’re relying a lot on Ben Koller after all, whose career can be summed up with this tweet
Tibbs I’m not sure how long I can continue putting up 20/10 with 2 blocks in B1. The opportunity to recognize me might pass you by, and that would just be sad
— Ben Koller (@bkoller297) February 7, 2020
Even when he’s good I refuse to acknowledge it!
#5 – The Substitutes – The Stanowicz brothers have proven they can dominate against the lower level B divisions. After a rude introduction to the A league they’re back hoping to find their place in the Fall season. This ranking seems low for a former A league team, but there’s been some roster turnover that I am too lazy to google.
#4 – The Young Bulls – There are no more gimmies for AJ & Company to skate past every week. This team is so up and down. Bad losses (or even worse, bad, ugly wins) against teams they should destroy. KB and Jordon Seldon leading upsets against heavy favorites, they can do that too. This team has the talent to go toe to toe with anyone. They’ve proven that by being in the finals in both seasons since the return of CAC Basketball in the Spring. However, they’ve also got their socks blown off in both those games. I’m not sure if this is the season AJ has his team break through, but they’ll be a handful no matter what.
#3 – Men’s League – George Schultz brings a team of mostly rookies into a league looking for a good run each week. I don’t know a lot of the names on the roster, but the ones I recognize are legit scorers when they last played in the CAC Basketball leagues half a decade ago. DO THEY STILL HAVE IT?!
#2 – Treys For Days – In any other B league they’d be the odds on favorite to take the crown. McGovern has put together a deep team of role players that fit around Ryan Romich’s game breaking ability to put the ball in the hoop. A who’s who of guys you want on your team to win a title. HOWEVER there are rumors swirling that Romich’s commitment isn’t 100% with Robel stealing him for his A league team. I’m not saying the rest of this roster can’t step up and win game after game, but it won’t be as easy or dominant without Romich. That’s all assuming these rumors are true of course. They very well might not be!
#1 – 7th Floor Crew – I don’t care that there are two “A” teams taking a step back. I don’t care that the rookie team is supposed to be loaded. 7th Floor Crew is the league favorite in my book. As always with Beaulieu’s team, it will come down to attendance. Harrison Taggart was so good his rookie season he only played in 6 regular season games and still won the league MVP. He then missed the team’s playoff game and they were unceremoniously bounced by the #5 seed in the second round. Paul Brooks is unguardable when his teammates remember to dump it down to him instead of jacking 45 3s a game. Phil Leotsakos might be the smoothest mf’er in the whole damn league. This team is loaded people!
