#B25v5South Preseason Power Rankings | CAC League Discussion | Discussion
April 27, 2012
Nate Weitzer is holding down this league at Bigelow on Tuesday nights but I thought I’d give a little preview of the season before sending out the league intro email.
Check out the league page here: https://www.cacbasketball.com/b2-5v5-south/
8 – Cummy Thighs – a completely new rookie squad gets slotted #8. I know, I know, they’ve got the best team name that I’ve come across for the Fall 2021 season, but that’s just how it goes! Once they’re hooked on CAC though, they’ll never go back to those other leagues that they defected from, that’s a promise. Good luck this season boys!
7 – Make It Rain – Another (mostly) rookie squad that I know nothing about. Do I know how to use google? Yea sure, do I particularly want to right now? No, no I don’t
6 – Trees and Threes – Ben Baron, the most unselfish player in his own mind, seems to have wrestled control of last season’s Mighty Wombats team from Robby McKitterick and tinkered with the roster. That’s a good thing! They were just 2-7 last season so adding Skylar from the jump plus a couple new guys can only help!
5 – Lexington Steals – Scott Saveriano is on season #9 looking for that elusive first CAC title! I don’t know if he’ll get it in the Fall but it looks like he’s added some fresh faces so you never know!
4 – Jared & The Hartbreakers – I know this is just utter disrespect for Tucker Landy and what this league can do in a true B2 division. This isn’t nearly as loaded as last season’s #B5v5Arlington but I feel like DeMatteo needs the doubters and the haters out in force to get vintage Landy performances this season.
3 – WilmerHale – The former Corporate League Champs made a splash in their first B2 season pre-shutdown and I expect them to compete for the title this season as well!
2 – Soup-a-Stars – Don’t be fooled by the lack of veteran leadership on this roster. It is DEEP and it is GOOD. There isn’t a deeper front court in the league. Fallon and McNeil ran over the #CoEd5v5 league last season (don’t laugh!). Then Aprit went out and added Connor MacIsaac (MVP runner up in the Spring #5v5Draft league)! Who starts, who comes off the bench? MacIsaac has great chemistry with Jacob Werrick, his teammate from that season as well. He’ll pair well with Coutinho in the back court. I’m excited to read about him going 110% in THIS league…
1 – Tune Squad – An up and down regular season in the Summer season was immediately forgotten with a run to the division finals reminding everyone of who and what they are. I’m painting a giant red target on their back to start the season.
Before you go! CAC’s own (as of last season) Arpit Patel (GM of the Soup-a-Stars Franchise) has hooked us up with some half priced apps at Baramor in Newton Center on game nights! Head there after your game to grab some beer and take advantage of the deal!

WEEK 1 LINES
6 PM Jared & the Hartbreakers vs Soup-A-Stars (-3.5)
Best game of week 1 happens to come at 6 PM! Both these teams have something to prove. DeMatteo’s boys have to show that last season was a fluke and they’re back to being a top dog contender. Tucker Landy needs some help putting the ball in the hoop! I expect Hart to bomb 3s and DeMatteo to get his little jump hook thing to fall more often. There aren’t as many bigs lurking in the weeds to guard 2 and 3 on each team, except for tonightA/! rpit brings teams into a couple B2 5v5 divisions after a stellar franchise debut in CoEd last season (lost in the finals). I gave the Soup-A-Stars the nod in the preseason power poll and I’m doing so again here as they’re expected to pull out a close, low-scoring victory in the season opener.
7 PM Cummy Thighs vs TuneSquad (OFF THE BOARD)
I have no idea what to expect from the all-rookie crew so no bets are being taken on this game tonight. TuneSquad has been around nearly as long as I have, and let me tell you something, 14 years doing the same thing? WHEW you’d think I’d be adequate at it by now. Bobby C has been hitting mid-range pull-ups with us since 2008 and winning title after title along the way. This is the season I think he gets another one!
8 PM Make it Rain vs Trees and Threes (-1.5)
I really should make it a point to pit the rookie teams against each other when there are 2 in a league. But then that would require rigging the schedule a little bit and what I really want to convey to everyone is that it’s totally random and I 100% don’t care who you get matched-up with. Always have a hard schedule (facing top teams in your league twice instead of once)? Can’t get that second game against a known rival that you always want? Cakewalk through the regular season and constantly upset in the playoffs? That’s just the roll of the dice man.
9 PM WilmerHale vs Lexington Steals (+7.5)
The problem with the high expectations for WilmerHale is that because of the gigantic roster (like 25 guys!) you never know who or how many are going to show each week. That can really mess with the chemistry. I like a nice, crisp, concise eight players. They still roll tonight though
