We crushed the draft last night in under two hours while watching Brady sling the ball all over the field to both teams (I miss you), it was a great draft, check out my real time reactions in the DRAFT LIVE STREAM:

The league intro email is on the way out, but you can check out the new league page here: https://www.cacbasketball.com/5v5-draft-east/

This 8 team division is absolutely loaded. All 6 player requests were met (a first) much to Mals shagrin. If you hear him yell get off my lawn just please kick him in the balls on a rebound. He deserves it.

We never see size like this in the 5v5 Draft leagues, so I’m excited to see which rookie big men are busts and which were worth drafting in the top two rounds. Let’s get to my draft reactions shall we??

POWER RANKINGS & REACTIONS

#8 DENNIS
Picks: #7 Ryan Noel – #10 Xavier Holland – #23 Adam Blaney – #26 Pat Prinner – #39 Kevin Love – #42 Jonathan Abreu – #55 Othniel St Ulme

Greg went from being screwed by the disappearance of his 1st round teammate to captaining a team in one short offseason. I don’t blame him, I get burned by Keith all the time to! I’m not sure how this draft strategy is going to work out. The first thing I notice is this team’s lack of scoring punch. Noel is 6’6″ but averaged just 8 ppg in 4v4 A Draft. There’s a lot of beef in this league so scoring won’t be easy. Is STAT is capable of 20+ any more? Dennis is going to have to take that burden on himself unless the 3rd/4th round buddy duo has a breakout star, or Kevin Love is ACTUALLY Kevin Love. What else is he doing for the next 3 months, really? I love the Abreu theft at #42. Way too low of a spot for him to have gone. He’ll add some solid back-up beef for the team this season

#7 Geeks and Sneaks (BALCERZAK)
Picks: #2 Tom Kotopoulous – #14 Chris Whitney – #24 Joe Epperson – #31 Kashawn Harrison – #34 Tyrone Mullings – #47 Tyler Vandre – #50 Kunal Chawla

This is another team with major offensive questions. Christian’s also a first time captain, but he knew the value of size. He traded up a spot for Whitney and sacrificed some depth to do so. I don’t see a go-to scorer in this bunch. Can a team be successful in 2021 by dumping it down to the twin towers every possession?? I guess the Knicks mostly eschewed the 3 point ball this past season and the Geeks are going to too. It won’t be pretty if they’re firing from long range unless Jenco goes from streaky to automatic!

#6 YEAKLEY
Picks: #4 Luther Joseney – #13 Robel Ghebermichael – #20 Danny O’Donnell – #29 Xavier Abreu – #36 Corey Tittle – #45 Matt O’Donnell – #52 Richard Beato

This ranking seems unfair. Yeakley was 2nd team All-League last season. I only left him off the first team to appease Tommy Kahana’s ego! Robel was an honorable mention (defacto 3rd team) and Danny O’Donnell had a breakout season in the #B5v5Arlington. I don’t know any of the rookies, including Luther, who was allegedly an MVP Candidate from Tuesdays last season, but even still. I’m afraid I am selling this team way, way short.

#5 La Familia (ROBINSON)
Picks #6 Rob Breckenridge – #11 Dan Hewett – #22 Mike Jones – #27 Will Horton – #38 Andre Jones – #43 Lumumba Kamgiua – #54 Rich Carey

Ah, I probably should switch 5 and 6, but after Guy’s breakout Summer season I’m putting a bit more respect on his name. Guy did what he set out to do in this draft. He wanted to play with his buddies and he made sure to make it happen. Breckenridge returns to CAC after a 9 year absence. He played in A 5v5 (Good). No one has seen him since (BAD). He’s 6’6 (VERY GOOD). Dan Hewett is the reigning DPOY and will provide plenty of help behind Guy and Mike Jones, who will gamble for a ton of steals hoping to get easy lay-ups the other way. That’s the one thing holding this team back. Matched up with other backcourts, this team is an absurd defensive liability. Still

#4 Beef Supreme (KERAMARIS)
Picks #5 Craig Borengasser – #12 Mike Gill – #21 Andrew Langdon – #28 Garrett Tousey – #37 Emerson Gagnon – #44 Frank Malsbenden – #53 Vinny Rubinaccio

Whether its fantasy football or a CAC draft, being stuck in the middle is always the toughest spot. I mostly like what Nick did here. The guy that says he played D1 went #5? That’s a no brainer. Mike Gill was a breakout revelation (to me) last season but at the time I thought 12 seemed a little high. Now that I’ve had a night to sleep on it I realize Mike is going to feast against team’s second best big defenders. The guard play worries me a little bit. They’re relying on Langdon, a rookie, and Gagnon to be the ball distributours? I’m excited for Emerson to break out of the The Rooks shadow a bit this season, and being paired with Tousey again is good for both these guys. I like this team a lot. I just don’t love them. Why can’t I put my finger on it? Oh right…

#3 Certified Baller Boys (ARINELLA)
Picks #1 Craig Rodenstein – #16 Rian King – #17 Mike Sydorko – #32 Chris Jenco – #33 Raphael Martins – #48 Raymond Beckett – #49 Chris Agresti

Rodenstein has his work cut out for him. Although, the way he’s cut his pecs, carrying this team might be a piece of (sugar free, dairy free, hell its not cake anymore) cake. The reigning MVP and undefeated champ will need to carry a mishmash of CAC vets with the only big being a rookie. Don’t look at me like that, do Sydorko and Martins REALLY count as bigs?? REALLY? Come on. Every pick after Jeff’s first I was like

#2 – CIVALE
Picks #8 Brett Armstrong – #9 Nick Mazzeo – #19 Matt Kaplan – #25 Chris Blakeley – #35 Anthony James – #46 Manny Reynoso – #51 Joe Mulvehill

While the rest of the league zigged, gobbling up every big available like they were Furbys in 1998, Civale zagged, going for offensive firepower, defense and size be damned! What he ended up with was the most offensively gifted team in the league.

Civale will have to bang with the bigs but as I saw in the Spring, Blakeley guards WELL above his weight class. He can handle most bigs and has been doing it for the 5v5 draft OG Drew Debari for a number of seasons now. Put your trust in Chris, he’ll be the only one going all out on D this season. But when you can put up 80+ every game, just focus on getting shots up as fast as possible

#1 – You Got Tibbs’D (GOTTHELF)
Pick: #3 George Penniman – #15 Liam Gantrish – #18 Jacob Held – #30 Liam Power – #40 Evan Matthews – #41 Thiel McClain – #56 James Lindsay

Look I was already enamoured with this team as I was drafting it. Building around a 5’5″ firecracker in AJ Gotthelf is Easy.  Pick and roll partner? CHECK. Penniman was a breakout star in the Summer. Unguardable spot up shooter? CHECK. Gantrish’s rookie season was just as impressive as Penniman’s. A buddy who will keep him in line and remind him that there are other players on the floor? CHECK. Held has put up with AJ for quite some time now, another season wouldn’t hurt. Championship experience? DOUBLE CHECK. James Lindsay didn’t lose a game in this league last season. Then I found out after the draft that Evan Matthews has quite the player profile and the team’s #1 ranking was solidified. This might be my Auto-Draft masterpiece

Hey Tibbs! What does me being “Streaky” have to do with Geeks and Sneaks if i’m on Certified Baller Boys?

Sounds like their lack of perimeter game is not my responsibility 😉

Make it make sense.

you drafted the best player, the best known commodity, by far, with the #1 pick.

You could have drafted Harry with your next 6 picks and you’d still be ranked #3

LINES for week 1:

6 PM Geeks and Sneaks vs Beef Supreme (+11.5)
Borengasser is OUT for this week (and next) for Beef Supreme, meaning they could likely start in an 0-2 hole. Balcerzak probably wasn’t happy with the team’s initial disrespect, but if they drop this game they really would have earned it!

7 PM ROOKS vs Yeakley (+5.5)
Robel is maaaaaaaaaad you guys. He’s seen the disrespect on the boards. He’s coming for ALL of you! Yeakley’s team is going to have a huge size advantage tonight but I don’t think that’s going to matter in the long run. Civale is really trying to jinx his squad with the “ROOKS” moniker. For those that don’t know a team with that name is 23-0 over the last two seasons in this division. Civale is just begging to lose game one. I don’t think they do though. O/U on number of 3s that the Rooks take tonight is 45.5, which is keeping in line with the Spring 21 version of this squad

8 PM Certified Baller Boys vs DENNIS (+15.5)
Did Rodenstein have a single close game last season? I think they might have one won by ‘only’ 9 points. Everything else was a double digit blowout. I’m excited to see if that trend continues in this new league. Gregg is VERY familiar with getting blown out by the reigning MVP and his 8th ranked team seems to set the stage for a similar result tonight. Let’s see what the rookies on his team bring to the table !

9 PM La Familia vs You Got Tibbs (-1.5)
YGT’D is without their first round pick AJ Gotthelf, who is soaking up the last of summer’s rays down on the Cape. The You Got Tibbs’D Franchise is starting this season how it ended last, shorthanded and without its captain! Some things never change. Guy has seen the disrespect on these here message boards and probably wants to come out of week 1 with a win. But I think Gantrish and company are deep enough to prevent that from happening, if just barely.
