This is Crazy 63

We Forgot to Warm-up 59

TIC Edges WFTWU in OT

Pregame:

This figured to be a really tough game for TIC. No Nate in action and no subs for them while WFTWU had a full squad. I was feeling extra confident in my WFTWU pick. Oops!

Game Notes:

  • TIC made me look foolish early on, as Danner knocked down his first two treys to give TIC an early lead. I told Danner it was time for a breakout game and he came out of the locker room RED HOT.
  • Ron would impose his will though with a quick 7 points to jump start WFTWU. We had a game on our hands folks.
  • TIC gained control shortly after the opening minutes though with some hot shooting from deep. Danner hit his first two, while Bohnaker and Bernstein got in the act. Bernstein in particular was all over the place on both ends giving TIC a huge boost.
  • With 6 minutes to go in the first half, TIC was 8/14 from deep but a late surge from WFTWU allowed them to only trail by 3 at the break.
  • The second half was a great battle with everyone contributing for both teams. Ray got going, knocking down a couple a treys but the real story was Bernstein. This guy had a full blown breakout game. He was knocking down treys, getting AND1s and rebounding the ball like an animal (14 rebounds!)
  • This game ended up being a classic, as we would head to OT tied at 55. In OT, TIC was just a little bit better as they snap my pick ‘em streak by coming away with a statement win.

Grades: In order of the stat sheet

Ghost (C): For Ghost, this was a subpar game. “Only” scored 16 and grabbed 5 rebounds.

Ron (A-): Great game for Ron who carried the offense and stuffed the stat sheet.

Joe (A-): Not much press above but Joe had a really strong game. He ran the offense well and scored at an efficient rate.

Chuck (B+): Chuck played his role well, killing it on the glass and chipping in some buckets.

Rich (B): Played his role fine, but he needs to knock down a three eventually!

Cheever (B): Fine game for Cheever. Didn’t force the issue and had a couple nice layups.

Ray (A): Another big game for Ray and chipped in a nice 5 dimes.

Bohanker (A)***PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE***: Monster game for Bohnaker. 17 rebounds!

Danner (B+): Hot start but after that decided to just get offensive rebounds.

Bernstein (A+)***KAP AWARD NOMINEE***: Bernstein gets the rare A+ for this breakout game. He was the difference in this game.

Exact Change 77

Citizen Clown 51

CLOWNED

Pregame:

I dubbed this the game of the week with both teams coming in 2-0. Each team had all their big guns so there were no excuses here. I liked CC to win this one but I found out quickly that was not the smart pick!

Game Notes:

  • Chattin was the story to start this game. This guy is terrific around the rim and he made some acrobatic shots to give EC an early lead.
  • EC would never relinquish the lead after that. EC’s offense was clicking on all cylinders, with everyone getting in the act. In fact, everyone on EC was getting buckets except for Dirty Jeff who had a down game after last week’s explosion.
  • Al did a great job defending Press, who struggled to score in this one. Press is 0/10 from deep in his last 2 games, which spells trouble for the teams he will face in the coming weeks. His lackluster offensive showing though resulted in his team trailing by 12 at the break.
  • In the second half, the flood gates really opened. Offense was really tough to come by for CC and it resulted in EC blowing this thing wide open. EC would lead by as much as 30 at one point.
  • This was a shocking result I have to say, but CC just didn’t show up tonight. EC sent the league a message with this drubbing as they look like the team to beat.

Grades: In order of the stat sheet

Rudy (A): Excellent game from the captain, who dropped 18 to go with 4 steals. His shot looked good and he was active defensively.

Dirty Jeff (C): Jeff struggled to score, but he made up for it with 10 rebounds, 4 of which came on the offensive end.

Chattin (A)***KAP AWARD NOMINEE***: Huge game for Chattin who scored 23 and flashed some sick moves around the rim. This guy is a legit steal of the draft candidate.

Manny (A-): Manny didn’t score a lot but he was a big factor in this one. He dished out 6 dimes and came away with 3 steals.

Al (A)***PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE***: Al was a beast in this one dropping 21 points to go with SIX steals. Not too shabby.

Press (D): Tough game for Press, who was due for a letdown game. Al’s defense was key here but I think Press should just put this one behind him.

Hanks (B+): Hanks was really the only guy to show up for CC. He scored a game high 26 but he is still searching for his three ball.

Cheese (B): Cheese did great work on the glass and in the dimes department but he struggled to score. Sold game for Cheese overall given the outcome.

Frank (C-): Need more, simply put. This guy can shoot and his teammates need to find him when he’s open.

Yak (B+): Another solid game for Yak who chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Can’t ask for much more from a bench guy.

Chao (B): Snagged 6 rebounds and played hard out there. Take some shots though!

Bombs Away 48

Retirement Party 47

Someone Had to Win!

Pregame:

Huge game for both teams! No one wants to be 0-3 at any point but unfortunately one of these would be by the end of this game. I expected this to be a low scoring ugly affair and I was finally right about something tonight!

Game Notes:

  • This was a pretty ugly game for the most part but we had some interesting matchups. Scott covered Djernes and I have to say he did a pretty damn good job on him. Djernes missed some open shots early, but some of that can be attributed to Scott’s
  • Kevin Smith helped out though, doing a nice job scoring the rock on a night where offense was extremely limited. He would end up with a game high 20.
  • Nothing really stood out to me in the first half. It was basically a bunch of chickens running around with their heads cut off.
  • However, let’s give credit where credit is due. Johnny looked a lot better in this game. Yes, the matchup was favorable but still…this guy needed a good game.
  • Bombs Away led by 6 at the break and honestly that felt like a lot of points in this game.
  • The second half realllllly slowed down. The two teams combined for just 39 points! For those who are wondering, yes that is very bad.
  • We had a 7 point BA lead with about 6 minutes to go and I don’t think either team scored a point for the next 4 minutes. Then a Bonvie and Johnny 3 made this thing interesting and we had a 1 point game just like that!
  • RP really struggled from deep though (4/25 as a team) and it cost them in the end. BA would hit enough free throws to escape with a narrow 48-47 win.

Grades: In order of the stat sheet.

Scott (A)***PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE***: Scott had a great game. He defended Djernes really well holding him to just 12 points. Also, he grabbed a shit ton of rebounds.

Johnny (A-): Johnny’s best game of the season and my expectations for him have dwindled a bit. He chipped in a season high 15 to go with 13 rebounds. He needs to get the blocks going though.

Bonvie (C): Another brutal shooting game for Bonvie from deep (3/17) but he made some key plays late to make things interesting.

Dwight (F): Maybe his worst game ever. Gave his team absolutely nothing tonight. Not sure what his deal was.

Ben (B): Fine game for Ben. Made his usual hustle plays and had a nice AND1.

Smith (A): Strong game for Smith. Carried the offense and hit some big threes. This season is the best I have ever seen him play.

Armstrong (D): Letdown game here. Was off from 3 and the free throw line. Will see better days going forward.

Al (A-): Very solid game for Al who stuffed the stat sheet. He held his own against the Mulholland towers quite well.

Amir (D): Nonfactor, might hit a three eventually. Starting to wonder though.

Ly (B): Decent showing for Ly. Played a solid team game out there and knocked down one of his patented parking lot threes.

Djernes (F+): For his standards, I can’t see anything other than an F here. I added the + because I like the guy. He struggled to score and was held well below his usual scoring output though so this will be one to forget.

Senior Citizen Discount forget canes, play geriatric defense

Nice for What 79 - Senior Citizen Discount 60

Jet’s Nice for What came into this game as a big favorite, and did not disappoint. They looked like a well-greased machine out there, and coasted to an easy victory despite missing Nate “from Downtown” Carlucci. Dustin’s squad was missing Rich Cody, but what they really needed were some lacrosse sticks to slow down the Jet and his crew of stewardesses.

Early on this was not looking good for Dustin. Kap was able to get things going early, and he got everyone involved. Brad had a solid game, and started being more aggressive on the offensive end showing off the 3pt shot…though he got a little carried away. Lots of good looks in the post, and Kap probably would have had 15 assists if not for some missed bunnies. The story of the game, however, was the Jet who was all over the place, absolutely making Dustin and his team look like they were awkwardly playing basketball with their children in some low budget car commercial. If you aren’t a comfortable ball-handler (the basketball kind…not the hand down the pants variety that we’re all probably pretty adept at), then Jet will make you PAY. It’s like you paid for first class AND a mile-high handy, and all you got was a middle seat next to the Hanks brothers who spend the entire flight punching each other in the face, and bitching about what the best cereal is. It’s Honey Bunches of Oats you fucking assholes! Needless to say, Jet picked his fair share of pockets, and went coast-to-coast a few times. His 3pt shot was falling, he was dishing, driving, doing it all. It didn’t help the cheapskates that they were playing some 1940’s style zone defense where they all stood in the paint holding hands, and let the best shooting team in the league just spew their seed everywhere unabated. I get it..you’re kind of old, and don’t want to waste your energy playing tough defense…but you’ve got to do something!

Shockingly, Dustin was able to singlehandedly keep his team kind of in this one. He had a hell of a second half. Ed had a nice first half, but looked gassed in the second, so it was all on Dustin. Murdoch came to play as well, and was a monster on the offensive boards, and had a few patented yells that are straight out of some fight scene in Braveheart where some poor Scot is getting his leg ripped off. That’s a guaranteed way of getting the offensive charge call, and possibly getting a role as an extra in some historical drama films.

Harry had a tough game, missing a few easy ones, but he and Tom are both really good passers and combined for 8 assists on the night. The flight crew has got to be the team to beat in this league, and have a deep talented squad. Kap kind of flew under the radar despite starting the game 4-4 from 3, and ending up 2 rebounds and 1 assist shy of a triple double….if only he’d bribed me before the game with some spare bike inner tubes…but alas, I kept it real.

Dustin’s team has some work to do. They were missing Rich, but they’re going to need more consistent performances from everyone. Alex played the best defense of anyone on their team, but seemed like he had a few too many caffeinated beverages on offense. Dmitry splashed one 3 in, but the rest of the time was building up his brick inventory, which could be in high demand depending on the whole wall thing in Nuevo Mexico. Ed looks like he’s got skill, but was probably forcing it a bit in this one…just the nature of the game.

Thanks Rudy, but how dare you combine my assist with Tom. Might as well combine me with kap's dimes.
