Last night we had a draft. It was kind of a big deal. Captains were late, players were picked, teams were crafted with little thought to roster construction or playstyle, and in the end everyone lost. Including me.

Draft night trade special! Earlier in the day Prince Harry traded 7/19/30 to Djorde for picks 11/14/26. Normally I think moving back in the first two rounds is never worth it, but have you seen the draft board? Big yikes. You guys sux.

  1. Dan Lerner

Sure. Never seen him play but I’ve heard he’ll easily be the best player in the league. Easy pick for the Prince.

  1. Chris Kerr

Poor man’s Zak. Steiner is not deviating from the plan that won him a chip, I just don’t need to hear what giant galaxy brain he thinks he has. Shoot me now.

  1. Mike Sydorko

One of the last top picks I think you can legit build a team around this session. As long as Cheese can keep him engaged and not fighting the ref or fighting in bumfuck nowhere it’s a solid pick.

  1. Musse Kassa

Probably the last guy I would build around. Easy grab for Jones, and sets him up to grab BPA moving forward with a point god to set them up.

  1. Paul Lagno

Lagno was second in PPG last season. As a big DJ can afford to go small(er). But Lagno is going to have to score like crazy again to keep up with the other 1st round picks.

  1. Alex Klepadlo

No idea. Welcome to the league.

  1. Remy Baudet

Great job by DJ trading up for another top talent. Remy can be great. Can also be a great pain in the ass, sources say. Not me though. Never played with him.

  1. Dylan Costa

Listen. I love Costa. LOVE this dude. My guy is walking talking (wait no, he has never said a word in his life) lucky charm. But at eight? EIGHT??!

  1. Seyi Tayo

Cheese has played well with Seyi before. It’s a good fit pick for him and the Kraken. Opposing frontcourt are leaving the game bruised. Haha, losers. I’m a guard, don’t gotta worry about that.

  1. Charles Wade

Another mystery man. Decent stats tho. I bet Jones has never ever seen this man before. But with Musse and Jones stretching the court they’ll have no problem assimilating him in. If he’s good.

  1. Nick Frongillo

I told the Prince I didn’t mind the trade. Because there might not be much difference between 7 (Remy) and 11 (Frongi). I might take that back. At least they’re friends.

  1. Lawrence Chan

Chan just wants to be wanted, you know? The man gets passed around more than a handle at prom night come draft night. L Good player tho.

  1. Derek Skelley

Skelley was in a bit of a tough situation last season, but he also only showed up for a couple games. So it’s also on him. But he flashed decent skill inside and gives Dunton additional size.

  1. Alexander Brewer

Steiner fcking hated this pick. Bulletin board material Alex.

  1. Adam Davi

Steiner fcking loved this pick. Eventually. First he took Abhi on my advice then turned around and traded for his former teammate. Davi is great. Abhi KILLED the combine. I rather have Abhi, but Steiner had a gameplan and executed.

  1. Jared Espindola

Jared is coming off an MIP season. Should have gone higher imho.

  1. Abhishek Chiyyeadu

Taken earlier based on my excellent scouting report, eventually traded to Dunton. He won’t regret it.

He was at the combine. So, you know, maybe do your homework captains.

Steiner Trades Abhi, 20, 29 to Dunton for Chan, 24, 25

  1. Joe Stuto

The Prince and Stuto are friends. Is this nepotism?

  1. Matt Meservey

I cannot overstate this; MM at 19 to DJ saved his draft. A gift. This team desperately needed someone to set the table. MM can do that.

  1. Charles Maneval

There were to Charles at the draft. This is one of them.

  1. Gordon Sheffield

Smart player picked by a smart captain on a smart team. The Shef will cook in this league. Cheese continues to hit with every pick.

Steiner Trades Chan to JONES for Davi

I don’t actually remember when this happened because I was poopin. But, I don’t know. I think I prefer Chan. It’s close, won’t impact final standings.

  1. Stephen Piasta

PIZZA always delivers. Jones’ team was looking a little small, this should give them some size inside.

  1. Alan Orellana

It’s apparent DJ did not get enough of last seasons’ disaster. Poor judge of character. And talent. Oh well.

  1. Erik Johnson

Are you interested in a sharp shooter off the bench? Well, I can’t help you this late in the draft, so I guess you can have Slick. Again, Steiner is relentless in building his team again.

  1. Bryce Moker

Moker rounds out the squad with size and toughness. As long as he doesn’t hurt himself. Fingers crossed.

  1. Dylan Hamilton

Nepotism, but in the last round, does it even matter?

((It really does))

  1. Jorge Morel

A defense first athlete, bit of a steal for Jones. This team is going to need Jorge to get stops since I’m not seeing a lot of size here.

  1. Ben Butterworth

BB is the man you love to play with because it means you don’t have to play against. Is that a compliment? I like to think it is.

  1. Andrew Marra

Marra played three games in one day and didn’t die. Wow.

  1. Joe Mulvehill

Somebody had to be Mr. Irrelevant. Welcome to the league.

Formatting came out weird in the paste over, but tbh I really don't care enough to fix it. Just enjoy my thoughts and add your own so I'm not pissing in the wind. Somebody do a power ranking so I can laugh.

way to get the ball rolling AO

rick and morty mailman GIFImage Enlarger

a lot of things to unwrap here, including some legends coming back into the picture

-will brewer be rocking his leopard print shorts again? (dont make me bust out that picture)

glad to see the influx of new names, however muddies the picture going into week 1 (in the dark for where some of these teams will fall standing wise)

going through the draft, these players are jumping out as much steals

     15. Adam Davi

     16. Jared Espindola

     23. AO

     25. Bryce Moker

     27. Jorge Morel

davi and episndola were monsters last season and really stepping into their own. AO blew up last season (after his number 1 pick bailed), making it rain and dropping bucklets left and right. bryce is high energy and attacks the boards hard while jorge really came into his own on the defensive end while attacking the hoop with better consistency

here are the initial rankings, will have a better understanding by the end of week 1

1. Cheese.. holy shit this team is big and will be bringing it hard in the toughness department. adding gordon with the 4th pick is a major steal

2.  Steiner.. kerr is going to feast in this league, managed to surround him with shooters and some annoying defenders

3. Djordje..  tons of shooters/ball handlers

4. Harry.. is this kid legit, if so theyll move up quickly

5. M. Jones.. no size whatsoever, will put up points

6. Dunton.. team was ravaged by injuries and what could have been last season, do things turn around? literally dont know any of these guys

I thought Alan was out here firing shots when I first read this. If I had known the Stuto, Brewer, Dylan Hamilton holy trinity were back I would’ve  tried to move some things around and get back to SDL. Worth the price of admission. In due time...

Cheese, Harry, and Djordje’s teams look like the stand outs to me. If Sydorko’s question is about Lerner, then it’s a resounding yes; he is legit.

Alan, thanks for the mock drafts and post-draft analysis.  Excellent coverage already- really appreciated.

I find it really hard to rank these teams without having seen so many top guys play. I know nothing about Lerner, Remy, Klepadlo, Wade, Abhishek, etc. So much hinges on those guys. The last time someone told me the new guy would be the best in the league was when Shebertes went first overall.  While he was extremely good, I thought his play was something SDL was already accustomed to getting from their top guys (Zak, Mazz, Rosiello, etc.)  How does Lerner compare with a Shebertes or Zak, for example? Any insight? I assume he's a big?

I'm eager to see Mike Jones' squad. Very good players, and I'm not sure we've seen guard heavy line-ups like this before in SDL (Musse, Chan, Jones all in the starting lineup). It definitely could work.  Also intrigued by what Dunton and Vlajkovic assembled.

By the way, I like Brewer as a player. Good defender, can run the floor, gets some buckets, and he's a nice guy. But yeah, he was selected way, way too high given Adam, Jared, Abhishek, and Meservey were all on the board. Not his fault, but it's a headscratcher.

Also, getting a guy at pick 23 who just averaged 20 PPG must be some kind of a first for SDL, right?

Nice write-ups by the coverage crew. With Cheese's team, who's gonna be the primary ball handler? He used his first three picks on bigger guys who can score and play D, but none of them really bring up the ball and initiate the offense. Is Sheffield gonna be the guy?
