We have reached that time of the season, RIVALRY WEEK BABY! Where teams get to run back, their week 1 and week 2 match-ups. This week we run back the week 2 match-ups. We're also reaching that point in the season where I pay a closer eye toward awards, so you better start proving something to me you cowards. I want more hustle, more guts, more trash talk and I want it all before the coronavirus wipes us out. TO THE LINES!

A Young 35 vs. Junk Yard Dogs 6:15p Game:

This is going to be a fun up and down type of game. Two teams with a bunch of little guys, who like to run up and down the court like there's no tomorrow. I for one can't wait to see how many stats I miss trying to keep up. Like every JYD game, it means a lot who shows up. Last week Lerner was out, the week before Titis was out, etc.....Will these guys ever have a full squad?

AY35 picked up their gimme win of the season against FRT last week. Naturally, they looked good playing against FRT, much like everyone else. Things get tougher this week, if they have to deal with Lerner and Tits. MacDonald, will more than likely grab Lerner and they'll roll the dice with Carlo or Jeffrey on Tits. AY35's defense stinks and this a spot where JYD usually takes advantage of such a weakness. Their shots have been off the past few weeks though, especially Chad, who has disappeared from his team's offense. They'll need a better effort from him.

My gut tells me that JYD is going to come out hot in this game. AY35 usually eases themselves into games, much like their captain, but there's no easing in against JYD. I expect JYD to be hungry after last week and play with a lot of fire. AY35 is just trying to get to the playoffs and with Casey trying to carry his BDraft team to the playoffs on Thursday, I'm not expecting a fired up effort out of AY35. Give me JYD here.

JYD -5 over A Young 35

Farewell/Revenge Tour vs. Grey Mambas 7:05p Game:

Well, as the song goes, it's now orrrrrrrrrrrrr nevvvvvvvvvvvver for FRT. This is the game that they can win, against the Grey Mambas, who blew their lead midway through the season and are now headed in the opposite direction. FRT got their ass whooped last week, but I feel like they have a real chance here against the Mambas.

For FRT to win this game, they are going to need a strong effort from EVERYONE. The Jet has to fly and not just try to hand out assists. Civale has to show a pulse on defense and get in the post. PIZZA, if he's even around, needs to be a beast down low and hit his open shots. Nate has to connect from deep and stop forcing up bad shots. Leon, has to be a factor down low, creating second chance opportunities. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR needs to be AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR! They need a team wide effort here, if they want to pick up their first win. The Mambas are in their range of talent, so there's no excuses to lose to them twice.

These teams match-up pretty evenly, both are on the big side and can match size. Neither team has a wing or a bigger guard to worry about defending, which neither team can do. This game will simply be about who wants it more and who can hit their open shots. FRT needs the win, because life will get a lot harder the next two games.

Grey Mambas -6 over Farewell/Revenge Tour (UPSET SPECIAL)

Fightin' Nimrods vs. Axis Powers 7:55p Game:

The last meeting between my Nimrods and the Axis Powers was a classic, coming right down to the wire. I suspect something similar will happen this time as well, since Hof will be there and Cavano will be there for us. The question for the Axis Powers, is will Ed be there? He's kind of gone missing and that's big news for the Axis Powers.

The Axis Powers have a struggled a bit (a lot) in finding Hof help on offense. Normally, his 1,000 points a game would be enough, but they are also giving up about 2,000 points per game. The Axis Powers defense kind of sucks and having someone like Ed, who's capable of defense would be rather nice for them. It's just too easy to score every time down the floor on the them, especially when they're in soft zone defense.

My Nimrods picked up a big win last week, after playing our own brand of bad defense. However, our offense kicked it into high gear and we were able to run away with it. I feel confident we can get the same offensive production this week. The Axis Powers aren't equipped defensively to hang with our guards and I don't think Ed/Djordje want to be chasing around Landon or Cavano on the perimeter all game. I see us getting a bunch of open looks, we'll just have to be able to knock them down.

I'm going to assume Ed will be there, but I still love my team's chances. We are doing a good job of generating open looks and that will continue here.

Fighin' Nimrods -4 over Axis Powers

Basket Cases vs. Hair Club for Men 845p Game:

This is an interesting game. BC ALMOST has the 1 seed locked up, but they already lost to HCFM and if they lose to them this week, then HCFM has the tiebreaker and they face FRT the last week of the season. BC needs to win one of their last two games, not an easy task.

The last time these two teams each other, HCFM dominated defensively as BC (Koller) cried all game about fouls. HCFM poses some problems for BC's offense. They have two lengthy defenders in Walker and Cawley, who can stop BC from getting their usual penetration. This is a team that BC has be able to make some jumpers against. They didn't have their other rookie last time, maybe he'll make the difference?

On the other end of the floor, we'll have to see who Koller tries to hide on defensively. I expect Pendergast will go Cawley, then maybe Drew on Gans? Gans lit them up last time, with Koller yelling at Ian the whole time. Drew, should be able to hang with Gans and prevent his usual effort. In fact, I suspect Gans will go like 1 for 20 after his heroics on Thursday. What an asshole......Jacque will have to be aggressive in this game and look for his shot. He can make a real difference for his team on offense.

I liked the way HCFM matched up with BC their first meeting and I still do now. I don't know how much of an impact rookie Sam can have. I think HCFM has more options to generate buckets and can collapse the floor on defense.

Hair Club for Men -3 over Basket Cases

It is with a heavy heart that Farewell/Revenge Tour announces the following news: Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we will not be participating in the Winter 2020 CAC Cup. Best of luck to all who compete.

  • AY35 beat JYD "wire to wire" according to Chas - would be interested to hear more about this game.
  • Mambas got a late bucket from Haas to lift them over FRT
  • Nimrods beat Axis Powers in a wild one that ended on late free throws
  • Basket Cases beat HCFM thanks to a big late comeback. Gans was hot, especially early, but BC rookie Sam had some monster late buckets, and Dave, Ian, and Drew all made clutch plays.

Hope our season can get back on track before too long. But if the season is cut short, guess the only logical conclusion is to recognize Basket Cases as the default champions...

Casey/Lerner came out hot kinda going back n forth, a few Ben mac 3 balls got us a good lead, but JYD had a ncie run before the half lead by Titties and we were up 1 at the half. Casey/ Ben mac continued to dominate, Casey was scoring at a high clip/ 3 balls by Ben mac again, around the 10 min mark Titts/Lerner finally cooled off and we were able to pull away by like 12, and they never recovered

I don’t care if we have to wait until September to play this thing out, but you can’t win a championship in the regular season. We’ll be ready for the playoffs whenever they may be.

JYD's attendance continues to doom them

I thought this would be one hell of a fun game to open our night. JYD was 4-3 coming into this match-up, they were coming off to a tough loss to BC the week prior, without Lerner in attendance. Speaking of attendance, this has been a real problem for JYD. They have maybe had one game where they featured all 6 guys on their team. Unlike last season, it seemed to be taking a little bit of a toll on them so far, including a forfeit loss. On the other end of the spectrum was AY35, who had lost 2 of their last 3 games, behind some truly horrific defensive efforts. They would have everyone, besides Jeffrey for this one, while JYD again, went with four. They were missing Coburn and Calderan. TO THE ACTION!

This game kicked out to the pace that I was expecting, with both teams trying to push the ball knowing there wasn't any big man in the middle to provide any resistance. That was great news for MacDonald and Tits, who tried a lot of tough baskets inside the paint. Last week, Titis had a tough time getting his shot to go and made a more concerted effort to attack the cup. A smart move by him, considering his opponent and the fact his team was ice cold from deep in the first half. JYD would go 0 for 9 from long distance in the first half. That's a problem for JYD, they don't have many guys who I would consider viable 3-point threats or guys you just have to close out on. Almost everyone on their team is better off driving to the cup and getting inside the paint to score. That can be tough when you don't have much size.

Nonetheless, the first half scoring for both teams kept on coming. Carlo, in particular, was huge AY35 in the first half and throughout the entire game. Carlo, did a good job of using his size to score and attack the cup. This was one of those games where Carlo's talent shined through. He's definitely capable of putting together these kind of efforts consistently, if his teammates can find him. Casey, would chip in with his usual effort on the offensive end. He would connect on three trey balls, to score 16 1h points. AY35's offense didn't seem to have much trouble getting the looks that they wanted on JYD.

AY35 went into the half up 40-39. Casey and Lerner led both of their teams with 16 points apiece. Lots of buckets on both ends. There was no reason to think this wouldn't continue. Both of these teams like to get out in transition and they usually get shots up pretty quickly. Neither team is about setting up offense and working it around. They get right into it. TO THE SECOND HALF!

AY35's offense stayed humming in the second half. It was feeling so good , that MacDonald would even hit two 3s, to go along with his one in the first half. I'm not sure MacDonald has ever hit this many 3s in a game and possibly his life, but I'm going to guess that's the case. I mean, there's nothing you can do if you're JYD. You just have to say, 'hey, if he goes 100 for 100, then God love him' and take your L. MacDonald, didn't go 100 for 100, but going 3 for 5 is a huge win for his team. Carlo stayed getting big boy buckets down low and Chas would arise from his coma, to score 9 2h points. Lots of contributions for AY35 from different places.

On the other end of the ball, JYD's offense really crashed to a halt. They would actually hit 4 second threes, but man, that was the highlight of their second half. Their offense just stopped clicking. Lerner and Tits tried to stem the tide, but they just couldn't produce enough. They would combine for 23 second half points, which isn't bad, but that isn't enough when you aren't getting help else where. I think I've said this before, but Chad's offense is crucial to this team, especially since Coburn barely shows up and Marcus isn't giving you anything. Chad and Marcus combined for 2 second half points, which won't do the trick.

AY35 would get their lead in the 9-12 range for most of the second half. JYD just wasn't able to put together any runs to make a dent into the lead. Lerner, had some tough takes to the cup, where just couldn't finish. He was getting frustrated with the calls, but he got 7 FT attempts, so it wasn't like he didn't get anything. Both teams ended up with equal amount of FT attempts, which includes late game fouling, so not much to complain about there. The problem outside of not having any known down shooters, is that JYD's offense just isn't great in the half court. They are in the bottom of the league in assists, which suggest that they have problems hitting open guys or creating when they drive. To be fair to their main guys, it also suggests the supporting cast isn't making enough shots to help them out. They have to figure this out come playoff time, because they're going to have to win or stay neutral in the half court.

AY35 would close out the win 75-64. This was an impressive win for AY35. This puts them in the 2 seed, if they can win their week 9 match-up with the Nimrods. I liked what I saw from them defensively in this game. Their defense has been trash all season, so they needed an effort like this to give themselves some confidence. If they want go any where come playoff time, they're going to have to play some defense. They will not be able to outscore every team they play. Your weaknesses come to light when it's playoff time.

Grades

Tits B-: JYD is at its best when Tits is dishing out dimes and he only had one in this game. I liked how he played in the first half, attacking the cup, but he went away from that in the second half. He has to be the guy to get others going, since that's not really anyone else on this team's strength.

Marcus D-: 0 points? Unacceptable. He needs to find a way to get buckets, because his team always seems to be short-handed, they need points from everybody. No more screwing if he wants his team to win.

Chad C: Chad was good in the first half, but like Marcus, he needs to deliver buckets or he needs to tell Coburn to show up to games. One or the other.

Lerner B: Lerner's shooting was a bit off in this one, but he did for 30. I went back and forth on his grade, because his team is basically asking him to win every game for them. That's life as a supah stah though. I also want some more defense from him.

AY35

Casey A-: Make your free throws. Other than that Casey was good in this game. He had some really nice dimes to MacDonald, to show off the chemistry they built with my team. He also blocked someone into next week and rebounded very well.

Sammy Big Dimes B-: I liked all of Sammy's dimes, but make a three. He has to be able to hit some 3s for these guys, since that's what he's there for.

MacDonald A+: I feel like he won the battle which member of JYD he guarded. He hit 3 treys, which may never happen again as well.

Chas B-: Lost his match-up with Chad in the first half, but won it in the second half. Knocked down his free throws, but missed all three point attempts.

Carlo A: I liked the way he looked attacking the basket throughout this game. The kind of showing he's capable of every single week.

THEREEEEEE GOESSSSSSSSSS MYYYYYYYYY HERRRRRROOOOO

I had one thought of this game, by gawwddddd does AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR look great warming up. I mean, Farewell/Revenge Tour absolutely needed to win this game. Their next two games featured HCFM and BC, two very tough teams for them to take down. They match up pretty well with the Mambas, so this week was pretty much now or never! The Mambas didn't have any type of pressure on them, since everyone seemed to bundled together, so who knows where their first round match-up could lead. Anyways, everyone was there for both teams. TO THE ACTION!

I didn't get the start I was looking for from FRT as the Mambas were able to come out and take command right away. Paul was putting in work for his guys, getting to the cup at will. They were able to stop his penetration, which stems from the fact that FRT, just doesn't have any perimeter defenders. Paul would score 17 1h points for the Mambas, to go along with 2 assists. He also had 11 rebounds in the first half, which was pretty impressive. You don't see many guards outside of his buddy Casey, doing that for their team.

Civale would do his part for the FRT offense. He would hit 4 threes, scoring 17 1h points of his own. It's been a heavy load for Civale all season and tonight was going to be no different. The rest of the FRT offense was missing in the first half, not a good sign for a team that needs everyone to do their part. PIZZA, Nate and the FRT bench would only combine for 4 1h points. That certainly isn't the recipe for victory.

The Mambas would remain in control for the remainder of the first half. Frank and Erik would actually outscore the secondary crew of FRT, mentioned above. Another horrible sign for FRT, as they chased their first win of the season. Things seemed very deem for these lovable underdogs, until Jet hit a buzzer beater to send into the half. Mambas up 35-30, but the Jet is picking up some momentum!

The Jet buzzer beater seemed to give life to FRT. Suddenly, they started to get some teamwide contributions. Leon, would come off the bench to score 6 2h points, to go along with 5 rebounds. That's a big boast for a team needing secondary help. Bench points are worth double mentally in big games. PIZZA would hit 2 trey balls as would Nate in the second half. This exactly the kind of thing FRT needed in this game, everyone has to help out. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR even picked up two steals and a block, with an assist. The tide was changing in this game folks!

On the other end of the floor, the Mambas were having the same problems as FRT in the first half. Their supporting cast wasn't doing their part. Frank and his buddies combined for 0 second half points. It goes without saying they can't be having these types of games come playoff time, because the better teams will be able to match their top 3 scorers. The rookies especially have to find some ways to contribute more, because they're going to need it, if they want to make a deep run.

A Civale 3 would give FRT their first lead of the game, then another Leon bucket would push the lead to 59-56. This when Kerk would rise from his bench seat on the bench to call a timeout. Side note to this, Mambas for some unknown reason had been playing zone all game. I'm not sure why. Another person who didn't know why was AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR, who was telling everyone and anyone around him that this was a terrible idea. That included Kerk, who saw his team's lead disappear and his team losing. He took AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR's advice and told his team to get out of it and go into man. Not a wise move from Amir.

Thanks to coach Kerk and player Kerk, this game started to shift again. Kerk was just dominating down low, scoring 17 2h points and he picked up a charge on defense. The kid single handedly was saving his team from defeat, another player would get the glory, but this stretch by Kerk was friggin awesome. If not for Kerk, then FRT would have cruised to victory during the second half. He also laid out some people via screen, in vintage Harry Demakes fashion. HE DID IT ALL BABY!

We were in for a treat down the stretch here. It was 71-71 with 1:40 left in the game. I believe Civale untied the game to give his team a 73-71 lead, but Kerk tied it again off a pass from Paul. FRT couldn't convert on the next possession. Bully got fouled on a lay-up attempt, going 1 for 2 from the line. On FRT's next possession the Jet dribbled through a thousand people and somehow did a 360 spin to convert a lay-up. Civale would then call a timeout with his team up 1, with about 7 seconds or so remaining! This was quite the move. I see both the positives and negatives to doing that. In fact, I thought about doing it the week before in my BDraft game, but decided against it. I like this move by Civale, because anything can happen in the chaos, it's better to have everyone set and ready to go. The downside, is if they score and you have no timeouts, the game is over.

After the timeout, Paul got the ball, charged up the court. Kerk, Obliterated someone on a screen, I think it was Nate. Paul kicked to the open Bully, who connected on the jump shot. There was still about 3 seconds remaining, but FRT tried to get the ball in so fast and the Bully deflected it, which erased any chance with basically no time left. The downside of using your last timeout there for FRT. Hell of a game, brutal loss for FRT. Good win for Mambas, 76-75 Final.

Grades:

Bully A+: When you hit the game winner, you get an A+. The Bully did struggle with his shot for most of the game, going 4 for 8 from the line and 0 for 3 from 3-point range. However, the stars shine the brightest during the big moments.

Kerk A+: The Bully doesn't win the game, if it wasn't for Kerk's coaching and play. Bully hit the game winner, Kerk won them the game.

Paul B+: Slowed down a bit during the second half, but came through in the big moments as well. Another guy who has to make their free throws.

Frank C: They need more from Frank, if they want to make a deep playoff run. These 0 point halves can't continue. He did have 2 assists, with 5 boards, but they need more.

Erik C: Erik shows glimmers of doing things out there, especially on the boards. He has some potential to come through with a big rebounding day and they need one in the playoffs.

Jason C-: Jason doesn't have much stamina out there, but even still, they need some contributions in some aspect of the game from him.

FRT

Nate C-: Nate just didn't shoot it well at all. They needed better than 2 for 11, especially with the other team stuck in zone for a lot of the game.

PIZZA C: 12 points is about where needs to be, but every where else wasn't a good showing for PIZZA. He was dominated in his match-up against Kerk. He didn't grab many D-boards either. He needed to be better.

Jet A-: The Jet flew in this one and almost won his team the game. He didn't quite pick up stem until the end of the first half, which is why he gets the minus.

Civale A: You can't really ask for more from the big man. Like I said, you can go either way on the timeout call, but he played about as well as he can.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR D+: That's right AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR, in the D range for making no 3s and telling the other team how to beat his.

Leon B+: This was a good Leon game. If he's giving you 6 and 6, you'll more than happy to receive it.

That was a hell of a game....heartbreaking to come so close to our first win and lose on a buzzer beater.  Shoutout to Bully for a clutch shot, Kerk for dominating down low and in the midrange, and Frank Mals for betting me $5 on missing my second free throw, then me making it and him Venmo'ing me the same night.  It's bets like that that make me a better ballplayer and get experience in pressure situations.  And Frank being a man of his word and honoring the bet.

Hopefully we will get our chance at our first victory at some point this year.

Great write up, thanks Harry. This was a rough last game to have before the extended lay off. I’ve had plenty of time to sit and stew over that last timeout call, and over helping off Bully for the final shot.

tons of props to Kerk for standing in and trying to take the charge on me. Ref didn’t give him the call but it was definitely a charge and Kerk bounced right back up and then killed us on offense.

YOUNG MAN KAHANA FTs LEAD NIMRODS TO SLIM WIN OVER AXIS

Hi folks, this is your guy Jet here, killing some quarantine time with an OK write-up of the Nimrods vs Axis Powers.  Yes I covered yet another game in this fucking league...the same league that fucked my team to a sweet 0-8 record this season, and the league I will be saying deuces to.  But I do it for Harry, because he is so supportive of the Jet brand and his classic motto “Fly Jet, Fly” actually gives me a semi chubb. At least I got to cover a great game, but the pace was wild at times and I’m yelling at people asking who passed that etc.

Anyway, I don’t remember many specifics since I threw the stat sheet away, but here we are.  And anyway, I got the stats uploaded the very next day, which is all anyone cares about anyway.  And I just used the word anyway like 4 times. Is it anyway or anyways?? Well, anyways…

Pre-Game Vibes: None, since I was coming off of an excruciating loss, I went into the bathroom to wipe my tears and wash my sac.  I’m sure Hof was being his usual friendly self.

To the action: All I remember is Hof being Hof and getting Axis out to an early lead.  I think Talbot was mostly covering him, but Hof was still getting his buckets. At some point, Cavano came to life and had a personal 7-0 run of his own to bring the Nimrods back into the game.

The game was very back and forth, but the Nimrods got out to a nice little lead in the second half, mostly thanks to Talbot, who was unconscious from 3, hitting 10 of 19 3’s to lead the Nimrod charge.  Cavano ate up every D rebound in sight, and Landon did a little bit of everything. Tommy Kahana was cold from 3 most of the game, but started to get it going in the second half.

Hof was doing his thing for the Axis, cashing 14 3’s on the night.  Djordje was eating up O boards and putbacks. Ed was struggling for most of the game, but Hof and Djordje kept them close all game…

Fast forward to late in the game with the Nimrods up by 4 and a crazy last minute.  Hof comes down and cashes a 3 ball, his 14th of the night, to cut the Nimrod lead to 1.  Tommy Kahana gets fouled intentionally and hits 1 of 2 to put the lead back to 2. With all the attention on Hof now, he finds Djordje for a bucket that TIES THE GAME with about 7 seconds left.  Nimrods inbound the ball, with Kwabena “Kwab” putting pressure on Kahana, who is trying to get loose to receive the inbound. The ball scoots away toward the sideline, where both Tommy and Kwab go for the ball, but Kwab is a little too aggressive and BOOM FOUL CALLED.  I had a great view of the play, and while it is a tough call with like 7 seconds left, Kwab clearly ran into Tommy hard while going for the loose ball. Kahana to the line...CASH ON BOTH. Nimrods by 2. Axis inbounds to Hof who is immediately double (triple? quadruple?) and doesn’t really have a choice but gets it to Ed, with about a second left and he goes up to shoot….and IS FOULED AS THE BUZZER GOES OFF.  OH BOY we got foul shots with zeroes on the clock. Ed, looking nervous as fuck, calmly steps to the line and…..clank, first free throw miss, GAME OVER. NIMRODS BY 2, 87-85

Coronavirus grades:

AXIS:

Hof: I mean, dude dropped 53 on 14 3’s and made some smart passes when Nimrods brought double teams in the second half.  I think my team was the only one to hold Hof to 33 or lower this season, so there’s that for us. But Hof shot 14 of 22 from three, yes that is 64% from three.

Coronavirus grade: hand sanitizer - super important to the team and everyone in the world

Djordje: 17 and 15 while dominating the O glass as usual, and big putback to tie the game late.  Great game from him.

Coronavirus grade: chicken - everyone buying up that shit in the stores, we need to cook

ED: tough game for Ed with only 7 points, and bricking the pressure FTs at the end of the game.  One to forget for him.

Coronavirus grade: toilet paper - everyone was all-in on it, but we didn’t really need that shit

Kwabena: Kwab contributed some solid defense, offensive rebounding and energy, as he usually does.

Coronavirus grade: hand soap, underappreciated

Haddock: Hit a couple 3’s with a couple rebounds.

Coronavirus grade: canned goods

NIMRODS:

Cavano: 18 & 12 with a couple blocks and had his own 7-0 run to spark the team.

Coronavirus grade: 36 packs of water…..everyone buying that shit in bulk, and always has and will be a necessity for us, just like Chris is to his teams’ success.

Talbot: Goddamn was he hot from 3, hitting 10 of 19 to the tune of 38 points, double the total of anyone else on the team.  Carried the team offensively for most of the game.

Coronavirus grade: fucking … all the meats in the grocery stores

HARRRRRRRRRYYYY: I mean Harry was there, at the game, playing basketball.  Had a couple nice dimes, and by nice I mean handing the ball off to Talbot to shoot.

Coronavirus grade: shortness of breath

Landon: 10/4/4 and solid D in another solid performance

Coronavirus grade: social distancing - super important, yet not everybody is on board and Landon is undervalued

Tommy: Cold overall from 3, shooting 3 of 10 from distance, but still amassed 19 points, 3 assists and 2 clutch free throws at the end of the game.

Coronavirus grade: self-quarantine...shit’s getting REAL old, REAL fast …...JK Tommy you’re still a stud

Vinny: couple of forced shots, but when you’re out there as 6th man, you gotta get your shots up.

Coronavirus grade: medical grade mask

Koller Fouls out, leading team to victory

Our last game of the evening took place as I was finding out about how that mother fucker, Rudy Gobert had just ruined our lives for the next couple of months. Jacque, didn't play in this game, but since Rudy is his people, he gets an F- by association. Without Jacque there, the 4-3 HCFM, took on the 6-1 Basket Cases in a rematch of week 2. This is where the Basket Cases received their first loss of the season and where they lost Buckley. This time around rookie Sam would be there, would that help? TO THE ACTION!

This game was going exactly like their first meeting. It was a damn rock fight out there, with both teams being physical, leading to a lot more whistles than the previous game. A bunch of people left the first half with two or more fouls to their name. This would naturally play a big part in the final minutes of the game, but we'll get to that later. Cory Gans, continued his assault on BC, nailing 4 first half threes. He continues to be a huge problem for BC, who can't find anyone who can beat Walker's screens or get out enough to challenge Gans. In a game between two evenly matched teams, this feels like quite a problem for a potential playoff match-up.

On the other side of the ball, rookie Sam was the only consistent scorer for BC. He would hit a couple treys, to go along with a few buckets inside, to score 10 1h points. It looks like he was getting comfortable with his new team, after he recovered from his injury. He also would force that hacker Doyle, into picking up three 1h fouls, an added bonus to his scoring. Unfortunately, the rest of the BC offense was stuck in the mud. I mentioned in that preview, that HCFM matches up quite well with the good players on BC and Koller. They just weren't able to find enough room in the paint and they didn't shoot well from the free throw line.

HCFM went into the half leading 34-26. The highlight of the half was, when I think it was Cawley, who threw a pass off Gans back and ended up scoring off of it. The only way Gans passes it to you. Anyways, this game was going exactly the way HCFM would have liked. BC didn't have any answers for Gans and their offense was awful. What adjustments could BC make? TO THE SECOND HALF!

The first 15 minutes of the second half was more of the same for both teams. Gans, continued to torture BC from three point land. You have to give Walker a lot of credit for his off the ball screening leading to good looks from Gans. HCFM, also got some nice contributions from Sisko, returning for his second game of the season. Sisko scored 6 2h points, including a nice And-1 over Koller. He also dished two dimes and did some nice work on the boards. Sisko, could be very helpful for this team in the playoffs, if we even get there. Doyle, was huge too in this half, scoring 13 2h points. Some good contributions from HCFM's secondary players.

On the other side of the ball, it was rookie Sam, who was single handedly keeping BC in this game. He was torching whoever was guarding him, which was either Gans (no surprise there) or Doyle (or here). Sam was just getting whatever he wanted inside the paint and added two more 3-balls. Kid was putting his team on his back, doing whatever he could to keep them in the game. They had no choice, but to their offense through him and he was rewarding them. Someone else would have to step up as well for them to win though.

Despite the surge from rookie Sam, it looked like HCFM was still going to run away from with this game. Then we went into the fouling portion of the game, with under 2 minutes to go and HCFM just fell apart. Gans missed a couple 1 and 1, Siskos missed a 1 and 1 and Doyle went 1 of 2. Rookie Sam continued his barrage offensively, with his buddy Drew joining in on the party, converting inside the paint. Suddenly, it was a 3 point game and then the best thing that ever could have happened to BC occurred and Koller fouled out. Ian would come in for him off the bench. I should also note that Walker fouled out as well during this stretch. That was NOT the best thing that could have happened to HCFM.

After Koller fouled out, Sisko missed the front end of the 1 and 1, Ian would get hacked going to the cup and make both free throws. Cawley, would then get fouled and go 1 for 2 from the line. Ian again to the cup, TIE GAME! Then Rookie Sam would make his only mistake of the game and foul HCFM with the game tied. Apparently, this buddy Drew told him to foul, but I didn't hear anyone telling him to get back and the game was tied. That falls on the captain, whoever that is on the BC team.

Luckily for rookie Sam, HCFM was in full collapse mode and couldn't take advantage of this error. BC would take the lead back on the very next possession, with an Ian THREE BALL! Gans would naturally try to answer by shooting from somewhere in Somerville, but it would be off the mark. BC would recover and put this game away at the free throw. 72-67 Final BC. What a horrid collapse by HCFM. This a game they should never lose, ever.

Grades

Koller C-: Passed and rebounded well, but his offense wasn't good. Also getting yourself fouled out when you think you're a key cog isn't good. I might reward if I thought he was doing it for the good of the team, but he clearly forgot he had 4 fouls by his reaction.

Rookie Drew C: Pretty quiet game from him, but he did come on late. He also told his buddy to foul during a tie game, so he gets points docked there.

Rookie Sam A: They lose this game by double digits without him. He doesn't get the plus for fouling in a tie game. Have to know the game situation son.

Ian A+: Came in off the bench and hit the clutch buckets his team needed to win the game. Can't ask for more.

Pendergast D+: Pendergast was a complete non-factor on offense. Him and Cawley just rubbed each other out (pun intended) of this game. He did record a charge though, which got him his plus.

HCFM

Cawley D-: I didn't realize how bad Cawley was until I checked the stat sheet. What an ugly game for him and his team fell apart. Not great at all.

Gans A-: He was great until the last 5 minutes of the game. He missed two big free throws late that could have helped ice the game. He wasted all his clutch on Thursday.

Doyle A: When you get 19 points from Doyle, then you should win the game.

Sisko B+: This was a solid performance from Sisko. They don't need him to do too much, with Walker in there, but he did his part. Missed a big free throw late though.

Walker B-: Walker did his thing, but didn't quite control the boards like he normally does and fouling out when you're team is ahead is a no-no.
