Excellent job Mike! One of the best no doubt.

Buckley was a beast on the offensive glass, had some good post moves for buckets too.

Great team effort on Tenney to hold him to 8/23 shooting, I had a lot of good help defense. We had to live with some 3s from other guys to play that help defense. Hopp, Sean and Chas made us pay a few times but it still worked.

Finally the excellent free throw shooting helped us close it out! 19/22 is damn good for this league.

I can probably fill in if you’d want.

absolutely

Thanks again to Keno Crew for letting me  fill in this week.  Fun game, unfortunately just ran out of gas at the end.

Harry, am I allowed to have stats for at least one of the two games I played in this week?

What are the rules on in-season trades? Can we add Kooz for a player-to-be-named-later or cash considerations? Draft picks?

Nimrods throw hardest in rock fight

I didn’t have high expectations coming into this game. Cream Time was on the lower tier of teams and the Nimrods were on the higher end. Both of these teams were coming off a win though and had everyone in attendance. TO THE ACTION!

For some reason Cavano started on the bench for his team, a move I didn’t quite understand and possibly never will. This didn’t exactly lead to a quick outburst from his team as they got off to a horridly slow start, especially Landon, who would miss all his shots in the first half, going 0 for 4. Without Cavano in the game, Cawley was able to get to work early with some nice buckets. He led his team with 9 1h points, that allowed them to get out to an early lead, in the essential first quarter of the game.

Cavano and Kuz would finally enter the game, with Cream time’s back-ups. Speaking of back-ups, Ed opened the game on the bench too, in favor of my buddy Carlo. Ed would make up for his benching with relentless chucking once he entered the game. This strategy didn’t appear to be working as he started the game 0 for 6, eventually ending the half 3 for 11 (Ouch), even Cory Gans doesn’t do that.

The Nimrods would assume control later in the half, with Cavano and Kuz getting buckets off the bench. Cawley was on Talbot, so the buckets and attempts needed to come from else where. Kerk was doing his part going 3 for 5 from the field, with 7 points. He must been excited play against his friend Carlo. The Nimrods went into the half up 27-23.

Neither of these teams would take of Michael’s secret sauce at the half, as they both continued to struggle from the field. That goes double for Cream Time, who couldn’t find any offense at all. Ed continued to chuck up bricks goes 2 for 6 this half and 1 for 2 from the line. Cream Time just wasn’t getting any good looks at all. Joel, Chad and Marcus went 1 for 10 from the field in second half. The ball just wasn’t moving enough for anyone to get good looks and they couldn’t make any tough shots.

The Nimrods were able to get some contributions from everyone as the second half played on. Talbot would shake free of Cawley, a LITTLE more, to chip in 6 points. Cavano and Kahana would hit some timely trey balls to balloon (for this game) the lead to 8. The Nimrods just rode their defense the rest of the way home. The strangest part of the game was late, with like 3 minutes left. Cream Time was walking the ball up the court, like it was tied or they were up. Therefore, there wasn’t any fouling later on. Where’s the urgency guys? It was like watching my dream under play, being played right in front of my eyes. 56-44 Final.

Grades/Stats

Joel C: He was 1 for 6 from the field and 0 for 2 from the line. Not good, when most of his shots are in the paint.

Carlo C+: He was 2 for 6 from the fleld, I’m just waiting for him to put one really good game together.

ED D: He was 4 for 17 from the field. That’s veryyyyyyy bad. They need him to score, but a lot of his attempts who bad chucks. Didn’t look like he took his demotion well.

Michael Marcus B-: He was 3 for 7 from the field. Not a bad effort on the glass though.

Chad D+: He was 1 for 6 from the field. Not a good effort from Chad.

Cawley B: He was 8 for 21. Good defense, not bad shooting. Just not enough of a “star” effort.

Nimrods

Cavano B: He was 5 for 11 from the field. It was pretty good Cavano game. Good defense on Cawley, timely shots.

Landon D: He was 1 for 12 from the field. I’d say about on the 6 or 7th missed jumper, it’s time to try and hunt lay-ups.

Talbot B: He was 3 for 7 from the field. Defense was good and did a good job involving his teammates.

Old Man Kahana B-: He was 4 for 12 from the field. Had some nice steals, still getting accustomed to his new team.

Kerk B-: He was 4 for 10 from the field. Solid, but not spectacular. I thought he was going to go 20-14.

Kuz B+: He was 4 for 6 from the field. He played his role very nicely.

PT Holds on in OT without Hof

This game lost a lot of its luster coming in, with the news of Hof and Baxter out. K.B. was also missing Calderan and Dirty Jeff.

1st Half:

Kuz filled in for the Keno Boys and looked like a great addition. He was really getting buckets for his fill-in squad, looking like the Kuz of old, before he started missing every game. It looked like he had been playing with these guys all season. Thanks to Kuz handling the fill-in duties, Jacque was free to roam and score. Jacque had 24 first half points, going 9 for 13 from the floor (wowzers). This explosion gave the KB boys a big lead going into the locker rooms.

As for the other guys, the only thing keeping them in the game was Ian. Who was 3 for 4 from the field and 3 for 4 from the line, with 9 points. Shaffer was starring at a big fat F, who his lackluster performance as he missed his first 6 shots of the game. Sang was also a putrid 1 for 6 from three in the first half. Basically, everyone but Ian sucked for PT.

42-26 KB at the half.

2nd Half:

The second half started slowly for both teams. PT finally did something right and switched Shaffer to Jacque on defense, which put his scoring explosion on halt for the majority of the second half. With Jacque slowed down, the offense of the Keno Boys went into the gutter. My second favorite stat teammate, Etheridge started off hot, but aggravated his back and his contributions went down hill hard. He would miss 10 shots in a row from the 1st half, going into the second half.

PT would build a comeback on balanced scoring. Sang would hit a couple treys, Sisko delivered some nice buckets inside, Ian continued to contribute and Shaffer finally decided to wake up. I’ve already devoted too much time to saying Shaffer needs to be aggressive when he’s the best player on the floor, so I’ll skip that part. These guys were lucky KB was short-handed.

Play-by-Play

It was 56-54 K.B. with 3 minutes left (Yes, the Keno Boys scored 14 points in the halves first 17 minutes, which is not good, I’d say).

Etheridge hit Jacque for a lay-up to push the game to two possessions.

Joel got to the line, went 1 for 2.

KB miss, PT gets the board and Ian connects on a huge 3-ball!

KB holds the ball until the end and then throw up a terrible shot. We’re off to OT!

Ian went to the line in OT and promptly missed both, but Frank with a huge put-back. PT with their first lead of the game!

Etheridge went hard to the cup, got to the line. Made both. Tied again.

Ian to Sang BANNNNNNGGGG. PT UP 3.

KB misses, Sang for some reason decides to pull from 3 on a fast break. Cashes it. PT up 6.

Etheridge comes back with a lay-up. PT up 4

Shaffer missed front end, Etheridge board and hits Jacque for 3! PT up 1.

Sang fouled, goes to line and cashes both. PT up 3.

KB run a horrific possession, that ends with Jacque making a lay-up. PT wins 70-69.

Grades

Shaffer C: 6 for 14 from field He had a strong second half, but his first half made me puke and so did his constant deferring to Sang three balls was terrible.

Ian A+: 7 for 12 from field They lose by 20 without Ian there.

Sisko B-: 4 for 8 from field Similar game to Shaffer, but he isn’t a top player, so I can’t be mad.

Frank C+: 3 for 10 from field Huge Rebound in OT!

Sang C+: 5 for 17 from field Hard grade to figure out, considering hit a couple huge treys and free throws. HOWEVER, he went 4 for 13 from three and was real bad in the first half.

KB

McNabb C+: 2 for 12 from field Awful shooting game, but he contributed else where.

Etheridge B- 6 for 16 from the field He had a brutal stretch, where he missed every shot, but he almost had a triple double and he helped with stats. So that gets you in the B range.

Jacque A- 12 for 22 from the field He was phenomenal in the first half, struggled with Shaffer on him in the 2nd half, but still managed to score almost half his team’s points.

Kuz A+ 8 for 13 from the field. Great fill-in work.

SCOTTIE AND CIVALE TOO MUCH FOR HMD IN CLUTCH

Naturally, the most promising game of the evening was the last game of evening. Top two teams went to battle with Mark it Zero taking on the defending champions. The game took a slight blow with MacDonald being out for this one. Nonetheless the Bully and SCOTTIE were here, which is more than enough for me. TO THE ACTION!

1st Half:

Without MacDonald in the building, we got the old aggressive Coburn in the house. He was getting his shots up in this one, unfortunately for him, they were off. He would got 1 for 7 from the field in the first half. Lucky for him, the Bully was doing just fine, scoring 13 1h points on 6 for 11 from the field. The first ballot HOF was putting in the work for his squad, without his running mate there.

Speaking of getting his shots up, Pendergast was doing just that. Walker got the assignment and was doing a good job of forcing a lot of misses from Pendergast. Pendergast was 3 for 11 in the first half and forcing a lot of shots up. The rest of the team, minus AAAAAMIR, were able to contribute with a first half 3 though, to keep the game close.

HMD seemed to be in control going into he half up 35-30. The absence of Macdonald wasn’t too bad so far for them.

2nd Half:

The second half would turn into a full-fledged rock fight. Neither team could get much going. Pendergast pulled off the gas pedal and started to distribute a lot more for his team, collecting 4 second half assist. MIZ would take a blow when the Jet got clocked by someone, probably Coburn and had to go into the concussion protocol. Coburn’s physical defense was already giving the Jet some problems, so maybe the rest was a good thing for him.

On the other end, HMD’s offense went to the shits. MacDoanld isn’t a typical point guard, but no one guards on the outside, so he can just sit there and wait for his guys to get open. Without him there, HMD couldn’t get much of an offensive flow, with Coburn playing like a mad man. They went a really long stretch of the half without involving the Bully, until he reminded “GIVE ME A TOUCH”.

After HMD’s tough offensive stretch, MIZ wrestled away the lead, with SCOTTIE hitting a huge trey ball and Civale joining in with one of his own. One of SCOTTIE’s 3-balls gave MIZ the lead late, but Bully tied the game with an AND1. That’s when Civale hit his second trey for the 2nd half, giving his team the lead for good. 61-58 Final MIZ.

Grades

Bully B: 8 for 16 from the field. Good Bully game, I’ve seen better though. He waited a little too long to tell his teammates who he was late in the game though and it may have cost them.

Coburn C: 2 for 12 from the field. His defense on Jet was good, but his offense sucked and it ruined the team offense.

Walker B: 6 for 10 from the field. Very efficient game from the field and I liked his defense. I’m just not use to seeing such a low total on the boards.

Sheff B+: 5 for 8 from the field. Same as Walker, very efficient game. Where’s my dimes though?

Doyle B+ 5 for 12 fro the field. Good game, with no MacDonald there. He produced well.

MIZ

Civale A+: 4 for 8 from the field. His stats are quite mediocre (even bad), but man, he hit two really clutch shots.

Pendergast C+: 4 for 16 from the field. His stats are ok, but I didn’t like this game from Pendergast, especially his first half.

Jet B-: 6 for 13 from the field. He let Coburn get the best of him through much of the game, but had a clutch stretch that helped his team take the lead and hold on.

SCOTTIE A+ 4 for 8 from the field. Much like Civale, his stats are very mediocre, but he hit two CLUTCH shots.

Jumbo Dong C+: 2 for 8 from the field. His shot was off, but he had some nice boards.

AAAAAAAAAMIR C-: 0 SHOTS! 0! SHOOT IT COWARD
