Time to get nasty boys, it’s round 2 of the playoffs, which will quickly be followed by round 3. Yes, that’s right, the playoffs will be concluded this Tuesday night and a new champion will be crowned. Last week, we saw two upsets, with the #2 and #3 seeds falling to the #6 and #7th seeds. The #1 seed handled business though, as did the 4th seed. TO THE LINES!

Kawhi So Serious vs. Del Boca Vista 6:30p Game:

These two teams are pretty familiar with each other, having met in the made-up games from week 3, which is now known as week 9. Both teams were missing guys, including all the size of KSS, which is a WHOLE lot of beef.  Del Boca Vista, was missing ZUUUUUUUUUUUUUKIC and the C-Leaguer. KSS, also had a fill-in, who won’t be allowed this week, that was pretty good. I expect a whole different game from these teams to open the night.

KSS, looked great in the first half last week, before the wheels came off. They are such a streaky team, especially from deep, where they like to chuck up looks. I will say, they are definitely an NBA analytics dream, since they either shoot threes or take lay-ups. However, this isn’t the NBA and this type of philosophy has led to a lot of dry spells like the one they experience last week. They’ve kind of been that way all season and a bad stretch in the playoffs can lead to a quick exit. I like their edge in size for this game, since outside of Zukic, Del Boca Vista, is a pretty small team. I expect Wise, McGirr, Abreu and if he’s there Ralph, to dominate on the boards. That should lead to a lot of second chance opportunities for KSS and a lot of kick outs for 3. The question is if Cantoni and Pranam can dock them down. I also would hope they have a different defensive philosophy than having Pranam guard Lagno all game.

Last week, the DBV defense stepped up huge and shut down AQP. It was an impressive effort on the defensive end, but one I’m not sure they can replicate again on KSS. AQP, was a better team, but their offense sucked for a vast majority of games. KSS, brings a different variety than AQP. You have to wonder who’s going to step up to stop Newton’s penetration and who’s going to keep the big men off the boards all game. Zukic, can only box out one guy at a time. The rest of the guys on DBV, are going to have to crash the boards hard. Offensively, DBV, might be able to find some mismatches to take off the dribble and get the match-ups they want in transition. KSS’s defense has been inconsistent all season and they will give up the looks.

You’ll be shocked to know that I see this game being decided on the three point line, where both teams lead the league in attempts. Cantoni and Pranam are crucial to their team’s success, because when they make shots it opens up the paint for Newton and their bigs. When Lagno and the ghost of Frongi are hitting for DBV, their offense starts to buzz. If I had to choose between those four, I’m going to go with Lagno every time. I think he’s capable of getting hot and knocking down a bunch of shots. I’m thinking tonight will be the night he does and gets his team to the ship.

Del Boca Vista -3.5 over Kawhi So Serious

Get Rich, Die Trying vs. Let’s Get Tropical 7:30p Game:

We played these guys back in week 5, when JetBlue was trapping me in Vegas. It was a close scoring game, with no subs for both teams, but most of the main players were there. We were missing myself, Rich and Weinstein. They were missing Manny, the real Maz and Ian. The word is that Filip, will be out for this game, which is a blessing or a curse depending on which one you get. I don’t expect this game to be that much different than the first, but you never know when you add a few different ingredients.

Speaking of never knowing what you’re going to get, that sums up the Let’s Get Tropical team. One game they play no defense, the next game their offense goes missing. One day they pass, the next day they don’t. It’s been a weird season for these guys, so I wouldn’t be shocked about any outcome for them tonight. Even without Filip, they have a lot of talent. Cawley, will surely be running the show this week, in Filip’s absence. That’s been a good thing for these guys, because Cawley knows how to move the ball and find the open man. The more the ball is in Cawley’s hands, the better their offense has done. Dwyer, has more better consistent for them in the past few weeks as well, which gives them a solid secondary scorer. Clasby, despite being a star score keeper helper, has been up and down with production, even from half to half. The question is Manny, who can heat up from deep and pile up the points. He can also take a bunch of question shots, so he’ll have to find the right balance to help his team.

I’ve harped on my teams lack of 3-point attempts all season to no avail, we take the second least amount of threes in the league, which has led to us being in the middle of the league in Points Per Game. Our offense has gone through dry spells, which is curious, since we have a bunch of guys who can score, including two guys in the top 5 PPG in the league. I think if we’re a bit more aggressive with our shot taking, then our offense would be a little better. We also need to keep the ball in Pollock’s hands as much as we can, similar to Cawley and his offense. Our offense does a lot better when Pollock has the ball. Our defense has been steady all season and I see that continuing. We have a bunch of options for LGT, which just need to find the right ones.

Most playoff games come down to whether the secondary players are able to step up. I don’t think this game is much different. I expect Cawley, Dwyer and Clasby to score, but what about the other guys. Everyone on LGT is going to have a tougher than usual match-up and will they be able to beat it? Rookie Maz and Ian haven’t been a part of this offense all season, so that puts a huge burden on the starting 5 to score all the points. They lose a lot on defense without Filip there too. I wonder who’s going to guard Weinstein all game and that question mark gives us the edge in this game.

Let’s goooooooo!

Last night I brought two jerseys for our potential back-to-back and we got stomped. Will I jinx my team again tonight? Will the icy floor wreak havoc on the remaining 4 teams? Will Filip unexpectedly show-up after being forced to evacuate New Orleans and bring his own rain to the northeast? STAY TUNED.

I think we have a better team when it comes down to it, but not by a longshot. Anything could happen, and I think -5 is a reasonable line. I expect this to be a close, frustrating, and low-scoring (sorry Harry) affair. Cawley will need to go god-mode at times when his team is struggling, but he’s certainly capable.

Taking KSS in the upset–and only because Mazz & Frongi need to pay the piper for knocking my team out in my Wednesday league via 5OTs. That will only be forgiven if it’s an absolutely ugly loss that I can revel in from tip to buzzer.

Solid call, KSS picked up the win in the first game, thanks to a clutch Pranam three-pointer.

Get Rich, Die Trying sent out Djordje’s team to their Tropical vacation behind a 20 assist effort.

In the ship, Get Rich, Die Trying got out fast again and recorded 20 more assist to roll to the championship. Rich, hit the game winner at the end.

SALUTE YOUR CHAMPION! See you fuckers in two weeks.
