Ok boys, let’s try this game. Week 3 is here, we hope, brand new matchups though. Let’s pray it isn’t two million degrees on the court and we aren’t slipping all over the place.

A Quiet Place vs. Let’s Get Tropical 6pm Game:

Week 3 opens up with two contenders, Let’s Get Tropical vs. A Quiet Place. Both teams coming off a win, LGT coming off a statement win.

Last week it was LGT’s defense that won them the game as they locked down C-League Mazz. I expect a similar effort this week, because they match up very well with AQP. You have three different guys who can guard either Koller or Leblanc or Civale. I will be taking a look at their offense closer this week though, because their shot selection and passing is a concern. They didn’t do a good job of feeding both their top picks.

Speaking of concerns, I don’t know how AQP is going to win this game if Leblanc and Koller can’t score. I mentioned the bevy of defenders that can be thrown at them, but that’s no excuse. They need to score, Alex and koloff can’t win this one  by themselves. They do get Civale back, but they haven’t played with him yet, so chemistry issues could be there. Nonetheless, it’s up to the “stars” to perform like they were picked to.

I’m leaning toward LGT in this game. They have the better defenders and I can see their leading scorers getting buckets no matter what. Also, I don’t know who’s starting for AQP, with their captain back. Unless, LGT throws this game away, they’ll win this.

Let’s Get Tropical -5.5 over A Quiet Place

We Fly High vs. Run N’ Shoot 7PM Game:

I thought last week We Fly High had an upset special coming their way, but we got cancelled. They get a similar chance this week and guess what? I like them to win again (spoiler alert.)

I said this before and I’ll say again. Run N’ Shoot fits their name perfectly, because everyone on their team can’t wait to chuck it. I like everyone’s ability to score, but not everyone can eat good every night (except me.) Lerner and Brandon should get the lion share, plus it would help to feed the 6’5 guy too.

We Fly High would just love to have Macdonald attend a game. Now would be a good one for him come to. They’ll need his defense on Lerner. Etheridge, would be helpful for this one too. Then they could unlock Sydorko a bit more and feed the secondary players, instead of relying on them to create.

We Fly High matches up well here for a change. If they have everyone there, Macdonald can keep Lerner in check. Etheridge and Sydorko can put in work down low. RNS has suspect defense and I see WFH playing extra hard for the W. Grit wins games baby!

We Fly High -2 over Run N’ Shoot

Del Boca Vista vs. Ghost Rider 8pm Game:

The last undefeated team in the league takes on Frongi’s squad in what I’m expecting to be another good game. DBV is coming off a tough loss against Let’s Get Tropical and Ghost Rider is coming off a big win against my squad. If rec. leagues and the NBA have taught me anything, you always sell high.

Ghost Rider doesn’t have quite the defenders of LGT, so I expect Del Boca Vista to be able to score again. The C-Leaguer should be able to get back to his week 1 average. Frongi, will do better as well. I wonder about the defense though, I think Ghost Rider will be able to score too.

Eusden looked a lot better in his second week of action. Luther and Musse have been a good back-court duo. Although, Musse is injured and might not play. If he can’t play, that’s a big blow, since Musse gets them organized.

This game will come down to if Musse plays. If he can’t, I don’t see Ghost Rider winning, with Ghost already out. Even if Musse is there, I see DBV bouncing back big time, off the play of their guards.

Del Boca Vista -3.5 over Ghost Rider.

Get Rich, Die Trying vs Kawhi So Serious 9pm Gams:

This game will featured of the battle of the night. Harry “the bull” Demakes vs Pat “the bear” McGirr, winner is the true Greek. The only question is how many threes will I taunt McGirr into taking? In other news, Pranam, has informed Maloof is out for good and that he needs a new best friend. Give him a chance guys, he’s a nice fella!

The loss of maloof sucks, especially since he’s a first rounder. However, I don’t think it’s a big deal on this team. Wise, McGirr and Maloof do all the same things. Does the latter do them better? Sure, but they all do it. Newton, is the key for this team, just not this week. Pranam is going to need to be huge this week, they’re going to need big threes out of him and big time defense. Unless he guards me again and my teammates refuse to pass to me.

As for my squad, we need to figure out this late game scoring offense. Last week was a good loss to bring us back to earth. We need to get more shots up, especially threes. Having a full squad will help with this desert like temperatures. Raphael will help us a lot off the bench.

This game comes down to rebounds and defense for KSS. They are going to need to figure out how to defend and score. My team has some good match-ups. I think we roll.

GET RICH, Die trying -8.5 over KSS

Week 3 recap:

Let’s get tropical looked like they left for vacation on defense and got whacked by A Quiet Place

We Fly High picked their first win in convincing fashion

Ghost Rider rode to another win over Frongi and co.

I single handedly defeated McGirr in the night cap by a lot.

Not trying to use this as an excuse for a loss. We played badly and deserved to lose, but that court was shit last night.

Totally unacceptable. It won’t get better unless we change gyms or get AC in there. It’s summer in Boston, it’ll keep being hot an humid. Ridiculous.

It feels good to finally get our first win!

I have to agree with Mirza though, last nights court was honestly dangerous to play on. My teammate Mike Burzyk in first few seconds of tip-off slipped pretty hard and landed on his knee awkwardly on a drive to the hoop. Fortunately he isn’t seriously injured but he shouldn’t be in a position where that could ever happen due to court conditions. On top of that, there were countless times in our game that players were slipping simply playing defensive all over the court and can only imagine it got worse for the final two games. Sincerely hope no one got hurt in those games.

We need to make sure we have a legit court broom to clean up wet spots going forward. The ref in our game had to use a mop which he attempted to dry up beforehand to clean up the wet spots from Mike Burzyk fall which is just comical.

#FREE LERNER.. #1 pick only had a handful of shots, feed this man the rock

thanks to the all the members of the WAG club for coming in and showing face in a gym thats 90+ degrees.. you go girls, truly do admire the dedication

was anyone else injured in the last few games due to the deplorable court conditions?

we need a solution going forward that doesnt include using a fleece blanket to mop up the courts.. talk about a depressing option

I saw you editing to get that gif right, Sydorko! But you got it in the end.

Re: the gym floor – between limited court options (ie, school gyms not available), and what I’m assuming is un-changeable lack of AC/ventilation in this gym, seems like the best option is a good dry mop or something similar. More fan might also help?

As far as the actual games – feeling good about our team after that nice win. Considering our first game with a full roster, we were pretty in-sync on both ends. LGT has some nice players but they were not really on the same page last night.

I’ll wait to see the stats & write-up, but seems like Del Boca Vista stock is falling fast after their loss this week, and last week’s loss now looking a little more rough. Only week 3 though, so still plenty of time for Mazz and Frongi to figure out how to reverse course. Sheff’s squad has got to be feeling good, sitting pretty as the only 3-0 team.

Echoing Mirza, both teams dealt with the same conditions and Ghost Rider clearly adjusted much better than we did. But on that court you just can’t play even close to full speed or else you’re asking to get hurt. Agree with Koller that at the very least we needs to get some fans and a better mop.

I texted Tibbs about the floor, naturally I got a smart ass answer, then I told him someone was going to get hurt and then this happened.

After the game I texted Tibbs and the refs (plus Mazz), that we aren’t playing on that floor if it’s like that again. So, if people are slipping in the first game, then I’m calling it and we’re all going home or to the CAC.

Del Boca Vista Slips up again (ZZZZZING!)

I thought this game would be a good fun, two contending teams paired up in a week 3 match-up. One team was riding high and the other one was primed to come out strong after a tough loss. Ghost was still out for Ghost Rider, while Fronig’s squad was missing Etienne and Butterworth. Boy, was I wrong about this one. TO THE ACTION!

Ghost Rider came out in a zone, which I thought was quite strange, considering DBV is a shooting team. Perhaps, they just didn’t want to move too much on the slippery floor? At any rate, the zone worked……ok, I guess. DBV did hit 8 three pointers in the half, three for Mazz and 5 for Lagno. They passed it around pretty good as well, getting eight assists in the half. Although, they would only score 28 points in the half and they were on the “good side” of the floor.

On the other end of the wet floor, Ghost Rider, was having their way on offense. Everyone was eating for these guys, Musse had 12 first half points, Eusden had 8 1h points, Luther had 11 1h points and Shaffer had a couple treys. Not a great defensive showing from DBV as they couldn’t get a stop. The continued improvement of offense for Ghost Rider, is a very good sign with Ghost returning at some point. They have vaulted themselves straight into title contender status.

The first half concluded with GH up 40-28, Frongi used no timeouts this half, which is surprising. Have to stop the run captain! Maybe, he just knew this game had already slipped away (ZING!). On to the second half.

Some how the second half got a lot worse for DBV. Ghost Rider, continued to score at will on offense. Everyone on the team would record a second half bucket. They had a lot of good passing and movement all over the floor. Sheff, had one beautiful dime to someone, I think Luther. Just a lot of good cutting and team work, which we know, makes the dream work.

DBV fell into the abyss this half. All the good three point shooting from their shooters stopped. They didn’t hit a second half three. Everyone on their team did score a bucket, but no one scored more than one field goal (Gross). Mazz, led the team with 3 second half points, which seems impossible, but here we are. The outlook on this team is suddenly not looking so great. Zukic, was a complete non-factor and they have no clue how to feed him. Frongi, continued to suck and be non-existent for long stretches.

Ghost Rider slid (ok I’m done) to an easy 69-41 victory. They continue to roll and prove the critics wrong. I will now attempt to curse them in order to right the ship.

Grades (Everyone gets a break due to the court, but I must be heard)

Mazz D+: C-League Mazz is still good, but he’s not even in the MVP or OPOY conversation at this point.

Lagno B+: Fell victim to the court in the second half, but was playing very good before that.

Frongi D+: Picked up a couple soft stats at the end to make it look better and missed a bunch of open lay-ups.

Zukic C-: Needs to get himself involved more on offense

Muccio C-: Good energy, but way too irrationally confident out there. 0 for 6 from three can’t happen.

Christian C+: Showed some good energy, didn’t do anything wrong.

Ghost Rider

Musse A-: Still can’t shoot, but everything else was good.

Eusden B+: Monster effort on boards, but I want more buckets.

Sheffield C+: That dime was worth a plus in my book.

Luther A+: Great game from the rookie.

Shaffer B: Did his job out there.

Frank B+: This was a good Frank game, some steals and hit a three.

Lindsay B: Good work off the bench.

Flyin’ High to their first win

I called We Fly High, winning last week’s game and dammit I wasn’t giving up on them this week. They played Run N’ Shoot, who would definitely love to give another a team a win. We Fly High, finally had everyone their for a game, while Run N’ Shoot was missing the big man they don’t pass to and my buddy Tom. TO THE ACTION!

The first half was halted for twenty minutes when Mike B., went in for a lay-up and almost died on this stupid floor. We spent the next twenty minutes trying to clean it up, Marlon, tried to do what we could and we talked about cancelling the rest of the games, but that would have sucked since we already got one game in. So, we decided to solider through this crap. For some reason, Lerner, the number 1 pick in this draft, started the game on the bench. Why? Is anyone’s guess. Chris Cavano, provided me no answers as usual. Naturally, We Fly High, got out to the fast start in this one. Four different players were able to hit a first half 3, including AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR and MacDoonald. Etheridge, also tried some threes, which of course were way off. Not having shooters isn’t going to stop these guys from launching. Nonetheless, they still got buckets and looked a lot better with a full squad.

The Run N’ Shoot, was the same story as the first few weeks, lots of shots as soon as someone touched the ball. Lots of one and one action, that led to a lot of long shots. Brandon O., was particularly fire happy, attempting 7 first half treys and only making 1. He was able to get some buckets inside though and lead the team with 11 first half points. Lerner, didn’t score in the first half, he was 0 for 2 from deep. Sometimes Lerner, just tries to fit in with a team and when that team shares the ball that’s good, on this team, not so much. Someone has to get him the rock or he needs to take control. MacDonald, isn’t that good a defender, where he can’t score.

We Fly High went into the half up 29-25, felt like it should have been a lot more than just a 4 point lead. Would it matter? TAKE ME TO THE SECOND HALF!

Somehow things got uglier for both teams in the second half, we could say it’s the floor, but we all know it probably isn’t. Mike B., was able to come back in the game, which is a good sign for his health. We like seeing that, no one needs to get hurt. The offense for We Fly High, went straight down the pooper in this half, the only saving grace was the free throw line. They would combine to go 11 for 17 from the line, which is quite impressive.

If We Fly High’s offense was in the pooper, then Run N’ Shoot’s was straight in the sewer where the poop goes. They had just a dreadful display of offense on the shittier side of the floor. Brandon O., was terrible shooting the ball, going 0 for 5 from three, yuck. Lerner, didn’t score again, which is no bien…….Cavano, actually made some lay-ups though, which was the entire team’s highlight for the second half. Conor did lead his lead with 8 second half points, with a couple air balls mixed in. Just some very bad offense, these guys play like a team that never met each other before every game.

We Fly High, would hit their free throws, as mentioned. It was just an ugly second half, between guys falling down and throwing up garbage. Any win is a good one though for We Fly High. 53-46 Final.

Grades

Sutton C+: Use those timeouts kid, at least to make your team aware of who should be getting more shots/

Lerner D: Looks a lot better on Thursdays.

Cavano B-: Finally made some lay-ups.

Brandon O. D: Outscore his back court mate, but the shot selection was hideous.

Johnson C: Shot wasn’t falling tonight.

Conor A-: Not much he can give much more for his team.

We Fly High

Etheridge B: Getting back into form, slowly, but it’s coming. Where’s my assists?

Jet B: Solid flying during turbulence.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR B-: Lots of sexiness and one hot three.

MacDonald B+: Stats can be better, shutting down Lerner gets you a plus.

Sydorko B+: Clutch free throws save the day for his line.

Agresti B: Good job on the boards, big time factor during the second half.

Andre Jones A-: Loved the aggression and energy this guy brought his team last night.

Oh Captain, my Captain, gets his team big win

The first match up of week 3, slip and slid edition, was between two top contenders. Let’s Get Tropical against A Quiet place, everyone was in attendance for both teams. TO THE ACTION!

I spent two write-ups talking about how Let’s Get Tropical had a very good defense, so naturally they set out to prove me wrong. AQP, was whistling the rock around the court in the first half. Three different players on AQP had three or more assists, which is a testament to very good ball movement. The biggest surprise was Civale, the captain, who made a couple of very nice “one more pass” moves to set up open looks for his teammates. A huge mistake on his part to show me he knows how to do that, now I’ll expect that on Mondays! Taha also had one very sexy dime to someone, I think Koller or Koloff. Lots of good team work for these guys in the first half and it led to a lot of good things.

Let’s Get Tropical on the other hand, just plain sucked on both ends of the court. They only registered a pathetic one assist for the half. Dwyer, looked pretty good though, drilling threes in Koller’s face as he was able to connect on 3 of 6 from deep. He led the team with 11 first half points and one rebound shy of the first half double-double. Everyone else was hot trash though, which led to them trailing the entire half. Clasby and Cawley only combined for 2 first half points. They did a call timeout at one point and do a team cheer in the huddle. It was the fakest show of team unity since the 2019 Celtics season. I think this was after or it meant have been before, where they committed an inbounds violation for no reason.

A Quiet Place went into the half up 32-23. I noticed that both teams were playing their starters a whole lot of minutes. It’s no surprise that Koller tries to hog every second and never come out, but both teams seemed to be overplaying their guys. Let the bench get some run, especially LGT, whose starters weren’t doing them any favors. On to the second half!

The second half wouldn’t get any better for Let’s Get Tropical, their offense continued to poop out crap. They went an abysmal 1 for 9 from three point land. Cawley, led the team with 6 2h points. Defensively, they were an even bigger train wreck, than the first half. Guys, just kept losing their man for no reason and giving up open lay-ups. My favorite was the one where Taha just drove past Djordje as he looked at him, did nothing and Taha laid it in hahahah. I don’t know who the main culprit was for these guys, because I was busy texting Tibbs to tell him what a dope he is for doing nothing about the floor. What I do know, is that this team is on serious chemistry watch for the next couple of weeks. Something isn’t clicking here, on both ends of the floor. There’s a bunch of talent, but they don’t know what to do with it.

A Quiet Place kept taking all the gifts that they were given and got lots of good looks. They were also terrible from 3, going 2 for 11 in the second half, but it really didn’t matter. This game was finished in the first half, they cruised to a 60-42 victory.

Grades

Cawley C: There’s a lot of choices for first round busts and Cawley is on the list.

Dwyer B+: Big man’s double double.

Clasy D+: 2 points isn’t going to cut it, 0fer from deep and the free throw line.

Djordje C: Shape up that defense captain.

Filip B-: Josh “Filip: Smith continues to be a train wreck from deep and if he’s going to play point, he has to do a better job getting the offense going. Nice rebounding though with a steal and dime.

Maz C-: Got to give me something more.

Manny C+: Shot it good, but didn’t add anything else.

Ian C-: Give me something out there. Commit a hard foul or screen the fuck out of someone.

A Quiet Place

Civale B: Was off from deep, but the assist got me all kinds of excited.

Koller B+: Did a good job getting his scoring average up with garbage time points, but good passing and rebounding.

Alex C+: He didn’t need to do much, so he didn’t, also hit the floor a couple times.

Leblanc B+: Like his teammate, he looked a lot better this week.

Doherty C-: Mehhhh, he’s capable of more than this.

Taha B: I like the way Taha is playing out there.

Kenny C: Kenny is still tricking out there.

Koloff B+: Another very solid outing.

Accurate assessment of how our game went. No excuses for our defensive breakdowns (both teams played on the same floor conditions). I’ve been hot garbage on defense in this league against all of the bigs, so that’s got to get fixed. We’ve got a competitive group of guys and will use this game to motivate us for the rest of the season. We’ll get a better feel for each others game as the season goes on and get to where we need to be by the end of the season.

Koller B+: Did a good job getting his scoring average up with garbage time points

This might make more sense if I hadn’t scored the vast majority of my points in the first half. Don’t even think I scored after the ~7/8 minute mark of the second half.

Ian C-: Give me something out there. Commit a hard foul or screen the fuck out of someone.

He did put an aggressive box-out on me, which I admired.

In any case, a pretty encouraging game for us, with our first full roster. Ball movement was sharp and our defense has been pretty stout through three games so far.
