IT’S THE PLAYOFFS BABY!

Break out your big boy pants and let’s get ready to dance. It’s time to separate the boys from the men, the Lebrons from the Jordans, the Kollers from the Amirs. LETS MAKE SOME HEROES. But first, let’s break out some pre. playoffs power rankings!

Power Rankings

8. Del Boca Vista

These guys suck. The end. Ok, maybe there’s reason to believe these guys should be ranked higher, based on the potential of the number 2 pick to just go OFF in the playoffs, but man, how can anyone have any hope for that. These guys started the season 2-2 and then proceeded to lose the next 5 guys in a row. It’s not like they’ve had a lot of excuses, unless you think Jeff Etienne, is the missing piece to a contender (By the way, get well Jeff!). They just haven’t been able to get in the flow of games and they don’t really do anything spectacular or have anything that another team doesn’t. Coming into this season, I thought Mazz, might be the league’s best player, but he wasn’t even good enough to get a mention in the MVP vote. Frongi, has been terrible for a lot of games. Lagno, has been trick or treat. Zukic, has been pretty steady, but not enough to swing games. This is going to have to be a full fledged, 180 turnaround for these guys to even win one playoff game.

7. We Fly High

Unlike the team above them, these guys faced constant adversity all season long. MacDonald, has only played in three games this season and they won two of those games, so that should attest to MacDonald’s importance. Their second round pick got injured thanks to the floor early in the season. Etheridge, has missed some guys too. The only constants up top for them, have been Jet and Sydorko. Admittedly, I didn’t have high hopes for this team coming into the season, but it’s hard to doubt they would have been better with a lot more help. They easily could have gotten themselves to four wins IMO. They were unlucky to fall into the 8th seed, which sees them play my team, but they are capable of an upset. I just don’t see it happening and even if they do, then next week would be tough too. Hard to put together three straight huge upsets.

6. Kawhi So Serious

This is where the rankings get a lot tougher. The next three teams played pretty equally during the season, but KSS took the most Ls to the two teams above them, so they’re coming in here. I think if there was a re-draft for this season, then Newton might have been a top 5 pick, hell, maybe even a top 3 pick in this league. The reigning DPOY, is the engine for this team and is capable of winning a playoff game for these guys, maybe two. However, I have a lot of questions about the rest of the crew. Despite, having the DPOY, they give up the third worst PPG in the league. They range from way too small on the outside, to way too big on the wings. McGirr and Wise, if he’s there Ralph, will get a lot of boards, but they’ll have trouble guarding teams with quick wings. Then, you have to put my man Pranam, on someone he probably shouldn’t be guarding. Too many times this season he’s ended up someone like Lerner for stretches. I also have some questions on offense, if Cantoni is going to shoot 20 3s a game or if they play a team that boxes out, to limit second chance opportunities.

5. Run N’ Shoot

They opened the season like Del Boca Vista ended it, but I like the way these guys closed the season as a team. They looked a lot better once they realized that Lerner, should be having the ball a lot more than he did early on. He even sat out to start one game, but I think we’ve turned the corner there. They have some pieces to make a run here, but only if they’re utilized right. Like Cavano, for example should be a defender and stand still shooter. If he tries to dribble, it’s not going to end well. Brandon O., needs to be better at running the offense, instead of taking long 2s. Their X-Factor, Kola, needs to be a big man. It hurts my heart to see a big man play like a guard, instead of being a force. Johnson and Conor, could have a big game if they get hot. However, even with all that, they don’t play much defense. You need to play defense to win in the playoffs, in all leagues. I’m not sure they can for 3 straight games.

4. Ghost Rider

Turntables GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHYImage Enlarger

Three weeks ago, these guys might have been the best team in the league and then the wheels. That isn’t all their fault though, as they lost the heart of their team in Musse. Musse, ran the show and got everyone where they needed to be, now it’s on the shoulders of Sheff and Luther. Luther, is more of a scorer and Sheff is too busy thinking about his next trick pass most of the time. Life was much better for these guys with Musse in charge, however I still like this team. They have a veteran group of guys, surrounded by the ROY Eusden and MVP candidate Luther. They definitely have the talent to match up with any of the top tier teams in the league. I’m just not sure that they can score enough points without Musse, who would give you around 8-10 a game. Shaffer and Frank are going to have to pick up that load. I can see these guys getting to the ship, but not winning it, especially now that they have to play twice in one night.

3. Let’s Get Tropical

Speaking of turntables, these guys have turned it around after almost flushing their season down the toilet. Cawley, at point guard has really helped this team find their game, especially on the offensive end. Their late charge allowed them to finish second in PPG for the season. Now that Cawley is at the point, everyone else found their role on the offensive end. Like with Run N’ Shoot, it’s usually a good idea for your best player to have the ball in his hands a lot. They’re a deep team as well, that can switch their line-up around to matchup with any team. My concern for these guys would be their defense, which hasn’t improved like their offense and stayed just as shitty as it was the weeks before. They appear to have the tools for a good defense, but they aren’t using them or using them right I guess. They don’t talk a lot on defense or do a great job communicating. If they want to win the ship, they better start taking defense seriously.

2. Get Rich hahah no…………A Quiet Place

What? Did these guys think one meaningless win would get them the #1 spot in the power rankings? No sir. Why? Because they have some questionable losses, to the likes of WFH ( in embarrassing fashion) and KSS, two teams who combined to win 6 games. The best teams take care of the bottom feeders (no offense WFH and KSS). I will say, however that AQP has the best defense in the league. They have a bunch of guys who play hard defense, then they have Civale and Koller, which is a bigger credit to the other guys having the league’s best defense. They have a deep versatile team, not to mention the big Kenny game they have coming and they match up good with any team. This team is a title contender, but I do have a question. What will they do offensively to win close games? I don’t think they know where to go with the game on the line and I expect some tight playoff games. Who’s going to take the big shots? I don’t know for these guys.

1. Get Rich, Die Trying

Yes, we started off number 1 and we’ll finish number 1. We took care of business during the season, going 6-0 against teams below the third seed. We are fully healthy and fully staffed going into the dance, with the best bench in the league. Our offense wasn’t as good as I thought, but the defense is and we are more than capable of scoring on any team. I wish we took more 3s, but we didn’t, which could come back to haunt us. We match up well with everyone and I think teams have to adjust more to us, then the other way more. We are the team to beat, PROVE ME WRONG………….Now, TO THE LINES!

Lets Get Tropical vs. Run N’ Shoot 6pm Game:

These guys will immediately run back their match-up from week 9 (aka week 3). where LGT would take the game 78-67, in a high scoring affair. Everyone was there for both teams, so something else is going to have to change for RNS to win this game.

Like I mentioned in the Power Rankings, both these teams started playing much better when they realized who their team’s best player was and started to letting him go to work. You can debate whether Cawley or Lerner is the better player, but I think Cawley is probably the better passer and offensive general than Lerner. Neither of these teams play much defense, which leads to give the edge to LGT here. Unless, Lerner wants to take the defensive challenge and try harassing Cawley, up and down the court to make life tougher. I’m not sure that’s in the cards though.

I can’t really see the roads in which RNS is going to win this game, EXCEPT if LGT starts to get a little lazy or plays like they’ve already won the game. That’s entirely possible with LGT, since they tend to do that from game to game for stretches. I can see them falling asleep at the wheel for stretches, then RNS going on a hot streak. RNS is going to need big efforts from Cavano-Johnson-Conor on both ends of the floor and if they could find the big man in Kola, that should be helpful for their cause. LGT, has the talent to run away with it, but they may lack the mentality.

Sometimes the games are what they are. Last week LGT won by 11 and there wasn’t anything I can take from that game that would give me much hope for RNS. I’m not sure they can count on Cavano to hit a bunch of threes again either. RNS, is going to have to turn up the defense and probably cut down on the subbing, to keep Lerner on the floor for most, if not all the game. Nonetheless, I see LGT winning this game, unless they get careless and blow it.

Lets Get Tropical -7.5 over Run N’ Shoot

Get Rich, Die Trying vs. We Fly High 7pm Game:

If nothing else, the last time we played each other, We Fly High showed that could hang, at least for 36 minutes. They did a much better job of scoring than they did when we played in week 1, which can be attributed to Etheridge’s improvement from then to now. We missed MacDonald in our first 2 match-ups, so this game should be similar to the previous two. I’m expecting a close, defensive match-up, with a team I won’t take lightly, even if AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIR is out.

The question for this game and every game WFH is in, is where are the points going to come from? Even if everyone on the team hit their average point total for the game, it might not be enough. Obviously, Etheridge/Sydorko/Jet are capable of scoring 20 points, they’d be hard pressed to get that from each of them. All three are going to have tough defensive match-ups and I can confess, that all three will be seeing a secondary help defender as well. They are going to need a big game from Agresti or Jones, the ladder of whom has been playing much better. He had seven assists last week, so he can do some playmaking. For them to win though, all 5 or 6 guys there are going to need to have a big game.

As for my team, we’ve been falling asleep at the wheel early in games. We need to get in this game quick and fast, because the playoffs are a whole different story. If you get behind early, it gets harder and harder to make a comeback. The reigning MVP, Samuel Pollock, has done a good job of getting us into our offense. I don’t know whose going to cover him, but it’ll be a tough match-up for them. It’s no fun chasing around Weinstein either for 44 minutes. I wonder how they’ll be able to keep up with us on the fast break, which should be in our favor. Then we have fresh guys coming off the bench, who have been very productive this season.

I think the road to victory for WFH, is pretty simple. Keep this a low scoring game, with a glacial like pace and hope to score enough points to pull out a close win. They will need to rely on good defense and cleaning up of the boards. Etheridge, eats up rebounds and Sydorko can do the same. We haven’t been great on the offensive boards, so limiting chances would help them. However, I don’t see that happening, especially if they run with 5 guys. It’s real hard to play 44 minutes of hard, playoff basketball with such a talent disadvantage.

Get Rich, Die Trying -9.5 over We Fly High

A Quiet Place vs. Del Boca Vista 8pm Game:

The last time these two teams met in week 7, AQP blasted DBV into next week. It should be noted that Lagno wasn’t there for that one, but it was still an embarrassing effort for DBV. They only score 36 points and had an 11 point second half. They better hope Lagno showing up for this one (assuming he does), will change everything.

As I mentioned in the rankings, DBV, has fallen on hard times. They don’t score enough and they give up way too many points. The only thing they do good is get up a lot of 3-point attempts. If I were them I’d be trying to get up as many as possible, because scoring on AQP has proven to be difficult. The ghost of Mazz, is going to have to have a very strong game if they want to win. He has to get his points and get buckets for everyone else. Frongi, especially has to be a big factor in this game. He has to be hitting his open shots and rebounding. Zukic, needs to be a beast on the boards and the other guys are going to need to contribute.

I feel confident that AQP’s defense will do its part in this game, but I still have questions about the offense. They should be answered in this game though, because they have some good options every where on the court. I don’t know who’s guarding Civale, but he’ll be bigger than him and should be able to get some easy ones in the post. I expect Leblanc, Alex and Koloff to get good looks as well from the outside. I’m sure they’re all feeling confident after last week. I expect Koller to find some buckets as well, if he gets out in front of Zukic in transition.

There just hasn’t been anything from DBV that would give me much hope in this game. They are on a 5 game losing streak, they’ve been beaten into the ground on many of those Ls. No one on their team looks better than they did coming into this season. I can see them getting hot from 3, but that’s about it. I think AQP’s defense has been too good and DBV, can’t get them into the kind of game I’d be worried about their offense.

A Quiet Place -9 over Del Boca Vista

Kawhi So Serious vs. Ghost Rider 9pm Game:

I think this might end up being the most interesting game of the night. Ghost Rider, without Musse, has looked pretty meh the past few weeks. To be fair, Luther was missing in two of those games. Nonetheless, they’ve looked shaky, more so than the other top seeds. KSS, has the tools to come away with a win in this one. Can they do it?

I can only assume Newton will guard Luther here, assuming he’s in of course. That’s an interesting match-up, because while Newton is DPOY, he can get into foul trouble quickly. Luther, draws a lot of contact and picks up a bunch of fouls. If he can do that to Newton and get him off the court, KSS will be in deep trouble. However, if Newton, can lock up Luther, that changes the whole game baby. KSS, can match up fairly well with Eusden, especially if Ralph is there. They have a lot of big bodies to throw at him. The real concern for KSS, has to be Ghost, since he’s on the move all the time draining mid-rangers. Sheff and company are always trying to get Ghost looks and he’s been delivering.

I’m not sure Luther wants to spend all game chasing around Newton, so I think KSS will get some good penetration. The question will be if they can make their outside shots or if they can convert on Eusden inside, who might hold a block party. I’m going to lean toward Eusden holding down the paint, but KSS hitting some of these open looks. If they can hit from outside, that will keep this game close.

My hot take for this match-up, is that foul trouble will be the deciding factor here. I could see Eusden picking up some fouls trying to keep all the beasts of KSS off the boards. I could see Newton picking up some careless fouls and taking himself out of the game. This is going to be a close contest, probably game of the night material. I see Ghost Rider having the slight edge, thanks to Eusden ability to win the rebound battle by himself. Then you add those Ghost points and Luther buckets, that may be too much for KSS. That’s where I’m standing with my pick.

I think we can get the W! I know Ralph and McGirr are out — we should have everybody else! Hoping for another big game from Jahred, and a matchup for me that doesn’t end in me getting posted up every possession! 😛

Bummer that WFH and KSS are both missing multiple guys. Would be highly entertaining if WFH still manages to pull off the upset and get revenge for that short-game ‘loss’. Also, what happened to Musse – injury? I do think his presence makes a significant difference against the better teams for Ghost Rider, although they remain dangerous.

Would be nice to replicate our earlier win against DBV, but that was also without Lagno and we can’t be too casual against a team that has multiple guys who can go off in a given game.

Hats off to KSS.  Played a great game.  We said at half-time we could live with them taking corner threes and sure enough they buried two of them in overtime to put us away.  Ouch.  Good luck in the next round especially if you play MAZZ

What a night of upsets! Del Boca Vista routes the number 2 seed A Quiet Place, then Kawhi Serious blows an 18 point lead, only to win it in OT. Get Rich and Let’s Get Tropical were the other winners of the night.

Stats and Write-ups to come, for everyone, except Mazz.

Couple things:

1. You calling “a major fuck up” stopping with the clock with a 1:30 left and a team down 15 a major fuck up, is hilarious. Play basketball

2. You’ve been on coverage all season and done NOTHING, NOTHING for this league. You have one write-up all season for my team, your team has one every game except for the week I missed. You suck.

3. You fucked us last week by not telling anyone you were out and making me score my own game in the first half, which makes you a dick.

Lastly and maybe most importantly, you’re a piece of crap and don’t you ever talk me to like the way you did last night.

Agreed with Frank – KSS outplayed us last night. It was ours to win with a few minutes left and they pulled it back and hit their shots.

That said, the floors were once again terrible for the 9 PM game. No quick post moves, no quick drives, and more mass wins down low. Same conditions for both teams of course, but it’s a different game.

Next season – Game order for playoffs should go in reverse seeding order. 9 PM game goes to the 4th seed.  It’s often noticeably worse, and that should be factored in to playoffs.

In my 7+ year tenure at CAC, I’ve never been involved in a game, let alone a playoff game, where (deplorable) court conditions were an enormous determining factor. I can’t really call our game a true match up between KSS and Ghost Rider. Musse’s absence notwithstanding.

The court conditions caused major issues for both teams on both ends of the floor. I had genuine concern for my players and the opposing team’s safety. To the point where I was going to flat out call the game and at around halftime suggested we walk down to the outdoor courts on Flagg St to finish the game.

I know this won’t be an issue for the Fall run given lower humidity (seriously, how ridiculous is it that I am talking about outdoor weather factors for an indoor hoop league?), but it’s really unfortunate that this recurring court condition and flat out danger that plagued us all season ended up bleeding into the playoffs.

Hat off to KSS for grinding that win out, moreover I am just happy that no one was seriously injured during the contest.

Special thanks to Harry for all of the great work/coverage this season. I call foul if he doesn’t go into the CAC B-ball Hall of Fame based on the below two CAC-published Hall of Fame criteria:

  • You had to bring some serious flavor to the league and/or;
  • You had to put in some serious work to make CAC the best basketball league in this hemisphere.

KSS survives in OT!

I proclaimed that this could be the game of the night and dammit, I was right. KSS, came into this game missing Ralph, shocking I know. Ghost Rider, was without Musse and Lindsay. Before, we get to the action, I’ll address the floor, because this game was too good to keep talking about it during the write-up. It sucked, obviously, it’s hard to say which team benefitted more from it being that way. Eusden, is right in saying you couldn’t do many post-up moves, the sidelines were especially bad. Newton, must have fell on his face trying to do a move a half dozen times. It was garbage, but anyways, TO THE ACTION!

Kawhi So Serious, came out of the gates a house of fire. Fresh off bricking a million treys, Cantoni caught fire, hitting 3 threes in the first half. Wise, was cleaning up down, with 8 first half points and Newton added 9 of his own. KSS, was doing a good job of moving the ball and getting themselves a bunch of good looks off penetration. The craziest part, is that most of this scoring happened in the first 12 minutes of the 1st half. With 10 minutes remaining the score was 29-12 KSS, who were trying to blow Ghost Rider, straight out of this hot box of a building.

The Ghost Rider offense just couldn’t get much going with Newton, putting the clamps on Luther for the entire first half, who only scored 2 points. It was the Eusden show, who was trying to put his team on his back the entire first half. Eusden, had a 12-14 game in just the first half. He was just all over the damn place trying to grab every rebound and score every bucket. This game most definitely would have been done much earlier without his efforts battling the entire KSS team on the boards.

Ghost Rider fought hard in the back end of the first half to bring the score to a respectable 37-27 KSS lead. KSS, offense started to flutter a bit as they started to rack up the missed 3s, especially Pranam, who went 1 for 6 from deep. Frank, had a couple huge treys, going 2 for 3 in the first half, which were enormous for his squad. BACK TO THE ACTION!

The game seemed to settle a bit in the 8-12 range as both teams were able to find some offensive flow early in the half. Eusden, continued to engulf every rebound in site and continued to score inside, again scoring 12 points and again registering a double-double in the second half. It was 50-42 KSS, with 13 minutes left in the second half and that’s when KSS, hit a major offensive lull. They just couldn’t connect from deep and at his point, the paint belonged to Eusden.

This is where Ghost Rider started to make their run. I mentioned that Newton had the clamps on Luther, but for some reason he either lost him in transition or they got in mismatches, but Luther started to get open and hit from deep. Luther, was 4 for 8 from 3 in the second half (plus OT). He also got some buckets inside, scoring 18 second half points. I don’t know what happened here, but KSS was losing their grip on this game fast.

Suddenly, it was 53-52 KSS, with 7 minutes remaining. For the kids at home, that’s 10-3 run in the last 6 minute of the game, yes the offenses started to die on the sloppy floor. Eusden, would then score inside to give team their first lead of the game 54-53. Another Luther trey and Eusden bucket, along with a Wise free throw would put the score at 59-54 Ghost Rider. Newton, would then hit a pull up 3 to bring them within two. He followed that up with a dime to McGirr, who hit the first lay-up attempt for the first time in his life. TIE BALL GAME BABY!

Both teams would trade bad possessions with the score tied and a Ghost miss, would send us into OVERTIME! Normally, I have an OT play by play, but since I had to do that stupid 1970s scoreboard and the real scoreboard, I couldn’t. Ghost Rider, I believe opened up with a bucket to grab the first lead. Then, giant nuts Pranam would hit a three off a Newton pass, to give his team a 62-61 lead. After a failed Ghost Rider possession, KSS, was swinging the ball around trying to kill time. Abreu swung to Giant Nuts, as his teammates urged him to keep swinging to kill more time, Giant Nuts Pranam said “suck on these” and drilled a three to give his team a 4 point lead. Luther and Sheff, tried to answer from deep, but couldn’t connect. KSS, would finish the game, winning 69-61.

Grades

Shaffer D: Ryan kind of sucked out there, he let his other version Cantoni, out shine him badly.

Ghost D+: Ghost got 7 rebounds, which is a miracle for him, but his offense was garbage.

Eusden A+: I don’t usually give A+s in defeat, but when you got 24-24, I have no choice.

Luther B-: I credit Luther for coming back in the second half, but that shitty first half made all the different in a tie game going to OT.

Frank A-: Frank, made some big plays for his team. They don’t get to OT without him.

Sheffield C+: They needed more from him out there offensively, but 5 steals is quite good.

KSS

Newton A-: I think the floor hurt him more than anyone, but he played very good. Big time shots and passes.

Wise B-: Wise, kind of got eaten by the Eusden monster after the first half, but he still played good.

Cantoni B+: Played his role very well, locked up his man on defense too. 5 for 11 from 3 is very nice too.

Abreu B: Couldn’t hit from deep, but he moved the ball a lot better than usual this week.

Ottomatic C: Hope have liked to seen him get a second half stat.

McGirr B+: This grade is solely based on his game tying basket. Big shot.

Giant Nuts Pranam A: Hitting the big shots vaults you into A in victory.

Let’s Get Tropical Hangs on for Dear Life

The first game of the night was between Let’s Get Tropical and Run N’ Shoot, who were fresh off a game from the week before. Manny, would be out for LGT, but everyone for Run N’ Shoot was in. The game started late due to the scoreboard lights not working on the scoreboard, so instead we got the stupid 1970s scoreboard to keep score. TO THE ACTION!

The game was a damn rock fight to start for both teams. However, I did like the energy I was getting from both teams. I love the playoffs intensity and the cheering from both benches, it was awesome. Dwyer, would lead all scorers in the first half of this game, scoring 9 first half points, to go along with 8 rebounds. Dwyer’s scoring had been inconsistent all season long, so I’m sure his team was happy to get him off to a good start. Filip and Cawley would chip in with 13 combined points for LGT. Offense wasn’t going as smoothly for them as it had in previous week. The Run N’ Shoot defense made its first appearance for the season.

Luckily for LGT, the Run N’ Shoot’s offense was hideous in the first half. Cavano and Lerner, both led the team with 6 first half points apiece. Everyone who wasn’t Cavano, would go 0 for 7 from three. They just couldn’t get anything going in this half, Brandon O. was invisible out there, going the half without a made FG. The ball wasn’t moving at all, they only had two first half assists. Obviously, they needed more Tom in this half, but at least their defense kept them in the game.

LGT went into the half up 25-18, it wasn’t a boring half despite all the misses. The competition level was at a high and it was really anyone’s game. Run N’ Shoot just needed to find some offense.

The Run N’ Shoot offense would finally find some life in the second half, led by who else? The number 1 pick in the draft would finally start to get going, just out of pure will and volume. Lerner would score 12 second half points to lead all players. The ball finally started to move for these guys, with 5 guys recording a second half assist. This game was really starting to get tight.

Let’s Get Tropical’s offense died in the second half. They were just really bad at getting buckets. They only had 6 made FGs in the second half, with Cawley having none of them. Cawley, however, was the only one to get an assist in the half, with two. Lots of one-on-one for LGT, which is what doomed them during the middle part of the season. Have to credit Run N’ Shoot’s defense though. Dwyer, led his team again, with 8 second half points, including two 3s.

Let’s get some play-by-play:

It was 43-43 with 2:11 left off a Tom DIME, yah that’s right!

Cawley, got to the line next possession and went 1 of 2. 44-43 LGT.

Lerner to the cup, FOR 2! 45-44 Run N’ Shoot.

Filip would miss a lay-up attempt, Kola grabbed the board and Djordje quickly fouled him.

Kola would miss the free throw though and this time Filip would make the lay-up. 46-45 Run N” Shoot

I think Lerner missed a jumper, then Kola grabbed the O-board and was fouled again.

Kola would miss both though, Clasby would get the ball and was fouled.

Clasby would MISS both, but get his O-board and for some reason took a jump shot.

Cawley would get the rebound and he would miss both too! Run N’ Shoot play.

Lerner, would miss a close one, rebound Clasby. This time he would make both free throws. 48-45 LGT.

Lerner, dribbled up and attempted a three. He would get rejected by Filip.

Run N’ Shoot ball, didn’t use their last timeout and got off a bad final shot, that wasn’t even a 3. 48-45 LGT wins!

Grades

Djordje C+: Good work on the boards, but 1 for 4 from the line and no made FGs.

Clasby C-:  Hit some big freebies, but had a questionable to say the least, shot late and wasn’t too big of a factor in this game.

Filip B: Played good defense, didn’t get too crazy on offense, scored the rock.

Maz C: Didn’t do much out there. Didn’t play a lot either.

Dwyer A: 17-14 game is a very good game, definitely A worthy in a game without offense.

Cawley C: Obviously, he was saving his best for the next night.

Ian C: Same story as Maz, made some good defensive switches out there though.

Run N’ Shoot

Lerner B: I felt like this was a good Lerner game, not sure what else he could have done, but I know there’s more.

Brandon O. D: Woof, bad day for his worst game of the season.

Cavano B: This was a solid Cavano game, no dribble turnovers and the only one to make more than 1 three.

Johnson D+: Not a good game for Mr. Johnson, not one rebound?

Conor C: Pretty meh, he’s capable of more. I did like his communication though week to week.

Tom: A: Tom was fucking electric and I loved every second of it.

Kola C-: Get in that gym and work on those free throws.

Sutton B-: Sutton played the role of good teammate in this game. Didn’t score, but I don’t think he took a shot either.

A Quiet goes down with a whimper

I didn’t have much hope coming into this game, because Del Boca Vista has been terrible all season and A Quiet Place’s defense at least (HINT, HINT) had been consistent all season. Everyone who was going to show on both teams was there. TO THE ACTION!

Del Boca Vista, go out ahead to start this one. This is what you would call a wire to wire victory, but these guys had a lot of energy from start to finish. Zukic, was holding down the paint, rejecting Koller into next week multiple times. He led both teams with 7 rebounds in the first half and added a couple buckets. Muccio, also contributed some buckets. DBV, did a great job attacking right off the bat, they got to the line 9 times in the first half. Frongi, even made some lay-ups, it was madness out there.

On the other side of court, it was a whole lot of crap. I have it noted that AQP had nothing and that was exactly what they did in the first half. Leblanc, led the team with 6 first half points and apparently, he was fighting through an injury. Which made sense to me, because he looked like he was out to lunch during most of the game on offense. They just couldn’t get anything going. Civale, had Frongi on him, but that didn’t lead to the success that it should. Civale, only had 2 points in the first half and 4 for the game. Koller, went scoreless in the first half. These guys didn’t even record a first half offensive rebound, not good.

DBV got their lead to double digits as we ended the half, up 35-21. A Quiet Place, looked very dead, just no offense at all and their energy was pretty damn weak. BACK TO THE ACTION!

I wish I could say that anything changed for AQP in this half, but it really didn’t. It’s surprising, because they have guys who can score, but I don’t think anyone really knows how to help anyone else. They didn’t move the ball well at all, only recording 6 assists for the game. They weren’t getting any penetration or many second chances. Koloff, was big for these guys offensively early in the season, disappeared into the abyss the last few games (minus their blowout win). Everyone on this team was just on the struggle bus offensively.

You have to credit Del Boca Vista’s defense though as they all put the clamps on these guys. Lagno, would get hot in the second half, pretty much putting the end to any comeback chances. He would hit three treys. Christian would also come through with two big second half buckets and Frongi would add a three as well.

The lead ballooned to 20 at one point for DBV, some late garbage time buckets would get it a little closer, but that was it for AQP. Disappointing end to a good season. 60-48 Final.

Grades

Frongi B: It wasn’t a great Frongi game, but he outplayed Civale, which I think was a big win for his team.

Zuuuuuuuuuuuukic B: Same as Frongi, but he played Koller to a draw, which is a win for his team.

Muccio C+: Nothing too exciting, but he had good energy and played well on D.

Lagno B+: His stats aren’t great, but his hot stretch late put the game away and the defense was very good.

Butterwork C+; Similar to Muccio, liked the energy and D.

Christian A: Christian was dare I say, electric?

AQP

Civale D: Woof, wasted all his efforts last week.

Koller D: Stats ended up looking ok, but when you go scoreless in a playoff game as the teams first round pick, that’s unacceptable.

Doherty C: He was ok, but he can do better than this.

Leblanc B: This is a good effort of someone toughing through an injury.

Koloff C: Liked I said above, Koloff fell off a cliff after the first few weeks on offense.

Alex C-: Alex didn’t play well either, he’s much better than what he gave.

Taaaaaaaaaaahaaaa C: No electricity tonight.

Kenny B-: At least Kenny finally hit a three.

An astute observer (which you are not) would give Mirza an A for his performance vs Koller. Holding him scoreless in the first half and anchoring our overall team defensive effort all game. I would never expect someone to hold Koller under 10 pts in this league not to mention in the playoffs.

Yah, well, since I ya know, covered this league by myself and actually watched other games, that happened often this season. That’s why Koller is 23rd in the league in scoring.

Haha these writeups are golden! For us, I just wanted to say that James (Cantoni) really worked his butt off to prevent Ghost from getting good looks. That, plus his 5-11 3 point percentage, makes him the MVP for our game!

Btw, do we know the schedule for tomorrow?
