Tis’ The Season: Co-Ed East W11

By LGraham

Winter is finally here.

Apparently Mother Nature decided that we did not get our pre-requisite amount of snow last year so she decided we had to make up for it this year. The two feet of snow that pretty much ensured all children in the Greater Boston getting a week off, was just the beginning as the region braces for another storm late in the week. But before you grab your shovel and pull that snow blower out of the garage, grab your CAC jersey and sneakers as the Co-Ed League is back and better than ever.

Once again the league has been in great demand that it has required expansion to two divisions. I will be at the helm of the new East Division at the King Open School, formerly the old Harrington School, on Cambridge Street, Wednesday nights while Rory steps behind the table Mondays with the West division in Somerville.
The East Division is back with many familiar faces but also welcomes in a new blood with open arms.

Returners
Shirt Before the Shirt returns to defend their Fall 2010 title with many of their integral cogs (Loren Turner) intact but they will have to do it without their big man in the post, Terry Henderson. In addition they have brought in Tom Kahana to bolster the offense. Above the Rim Jobs, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Genzyme and one-half of the Dizzy Llamas franchise (Black and Orange) return to try to de-throne the defending champs. The former Game…Blouses begin a new year and new season with a new moniker, “Hide Ya Kids, Hide Ya Wife” but much of the same core roster.

Newcomers
The Cooke Monsters are completely new to the Co-Ed family while Boston Beer Company, run by Thomas Haff, returns to the mix after a two season hiatus. I remember the BBC from a year ago (Winter 2010) when I was manning the ship over at the Harvard/Kent School in Charlestown.

Players to watch out for:
Loren Turner, Shirt Before the Shirt
Mike Perrone, Above The Rim Jobs
Sarah-Jo (SJ) Roberts, Above The Rim Jobs
Gwendolyn Browne, Genzyme
Adam Beihler, Genzyme
Steph Baran, Hide Ya Kids, Hide Ya Wife
Rory Duyon, Weapons of Mass Destruction – free agent switches teams
Paul Nimblett, Dizzy Llamas – Black

Silent Killers –players who can turn it on any given week:

Dave Celli, Weapons of Mass Destruction
Chris Angelillo, Above The Rim Jobs
Dave Boll, Above The Rim Jobs
Garrett Tingle, Genzyme
Lauren Rappoli, Hide Ya Kids, Hide Ya Wife
Nate Brigham, Hide Ya Kids, Hide Ya Wife

This is the season for basketball greatness from the Co-Ed League. We will wrap up Winter 2011 with an East-West unification game on April 27th when we finally rid ourselves of snow. Actually at this rate we may still have some at the end of April.

One last thing before, I end this post. Please try to arrive at the games 10/15 minutes before the start of your game. I know the 6:00 game is a tough one with everyone getting out of work but we want to start the games on time.

Now, you all can get bread and milk and gas for your snow blowers as I attend to my list “to-do list” of SID stuff.
