Fall 2017: A 5v5 League Champs: Cash Out

    They survived in overtime
Treys For Days 70 Zards 68

    Pre-Game:

Coming into this game I guess Treys For Days (TFD) was the favorite being that they had the higher seed and better record. I’ve seen the Zards play before though and they have the balance and depth to beat any team.

    First Half:

No team was able to gain control or any sort of momentum. It was literally a back and forth battle. Zards took the lead at half though 31-29 off a Kyle Phillips buzzer beater score.

    Player of the Half:

Michael Mayer 12 pts, 1-2 from three, 5-6 from the free throw line, 6 orebs and 1 dreb

    Second Half:

More of the same this half, just a back and forth game with no team being able to take control; one would think with the Zards being 0-3 from three this half and TFD being 7-16 that TFD would have a sizeable lead but nope we were headed to overtime tied at 63.

    Overtime:

This was really the Billy Selmon show as he scored all his teams points (7 total). On the opposite side, Darian Reid-Sturgis scored his only bucket of the game, Michael Mayer added sone free throws to his great game but ultimately TFD went to win 70-68.

    Player of the Game:

Billy Selmon as previously mentioned pretty much dominated the overtime and had a great game overall after just an ok first half.

    Grades:

Andrew Madlinger A did what he does best which was stroke the three ball. Had a stretch in the second half where he hit 4 in a row.

Billy Selmon A stuffed the stat sheet he made the key plays to help his team secure the win in overtime. That steal he converted to a layup in overtime basically sealed the game.

Kevin McGovern C- had to dock his grade for his three point shooting but overall didn’t do anything costly and his team did win.

Max Staiger B- didn’t quite get what he averages in points but still played a pretty good game.

Ryan O”Connell A really did a nice job of scoring for this team as well as passing.

Mathias A loved everything he did as the PG for this team 6 pts, 2-4 from three, 9 drebs and 4 asts.

Darian Reid-Sturgis A was a beast rebounding and did all the other little things to have a very solid game.

Kyle Jackson A- had to dock his grade for the three-point shooting but had a great game with a double double

Kyle Phillips B+ solid game slightly exceeded what he’s been doing on the season.

Mark Phillips C I took a look at what’s he’s been doing on the season and he is definitely capable of playing better.

Michael Baker C dude if you’re going to change your stats at least wait until I do the write-up and definitely never change the points you scored because that throws off the total team points. Anyway, considering he played basically a half of basketball he played decent. He probably would’ve actually got the stats he changed them to had he played a whole game.

Michael Mayer A was dominant, got a double double while shooting it efficiently.

    Takeaways:

I think the Zards need a three point shooting threat added to their roster. Other than that I think they are a good team just lost to one slightly better on the day.

Nice win for TFD. They appear to have the balance on their roster to win this league.
