Spida Men Win Title Despite 47 From Tongo
The Spida Men 89 GTL 86
Finals time and Jamal brought that extra gear initially, starting 4-4 from deep with a couple of nice dimes to add and give Spida an early 37-27 lead. Tongo was coming right back with some tough threes and eventually put GTL back in front, 43-42. Turning up the defense and intensity from the sidelines seemed to help spark that run, but GTL trailed 49-47 at the half.
Taub brought the energy in the second half and hit a key crossover three to make it 58-56 GTL. Jamal and Danny kept scoring in the paint tho to put Spida back up, 67-60. After a timeout and claims of a travel from videographer Keith, KD reviewed the film and decided Danny just has really long freaking strides. This was the first unsuccessful video challenge in CAC history.
After getting ragged on most of the night by Keith, Mazz shook off the booze and came up clutch with a triple to make it 76-70 Spida. Tongo came back yet again with just some tuff threes, he was up to 40 pts and GTL was down, 78-77. But Mazz was left open and made sure Tibbs will consider him for the CAC Hall of Fame by knocking down another key triple to make it 81-77, then going 4-4 at the line down the stretch.
GTL still had a chance to send it to OT and Tongo got a great look off an inbounds pass, but I think he missed his last three attempts from deep and despite going 13-13 at the line in a herculean effort, might've run out of gas. Too much worrying about the 4-game minimum from GTL! If Waseem was healthy to play he should've suited up for the final. But hey, they want that chip without an asterisk.
