Millrats use deep bench to pull away late versus Game Theory
Game Theory 51 Millrats 64
Millrats were down by double digits early, but stormed back in the second half to win the A 5v5 Summer 2012 League with the 64-51 final over Game Theory.
In the first half, Royce Henry scored the first six points for Game Theory to put his squad up 6-2. The lead was up to 11-2 after a three-point play from Ken Fass. The lead was cut to 11-7 after a three-point shot goes in for Ray Zhou. Game Theory responded with a 9-3 run to take the 20-10 edge on a three-point play for Sean Walsh.
Millrats regrouped and cut the lead to 22-20 on a three for Radio Singleton. Radio scored eight straight points at this point to bring Millrats within two. Dan Duggan nailed a deep three-pointer to put the lead up to 25-20. Robert William-Hinton tied the game 27-27 with his own three-point shot. Tony Awad hit a putback shot to bring the lead up to 31-2. The halftime edge was 31-29 for Game Theory.
The second half was dominated by Millrats with its extra bench players and timely substitutions. Also, Millrats used great ball pressure and interior defense to take the lead early on in the second half. Awad had to leave with 17:26 left in the game with an apparent knee injury after avoiding contact with his own teammate. Awad would later return, but it was too little, too late for Game Theory at that point.
Millrats went on a 10-0 run with Awad out to take the 48-35 lead. Fass hit a three from the wing to cut the lead to 48-38 and stop the bleeding for Game Theory. Fass then hit three free throws after being fouled on a three-pointer from the top of the arc to cut the lead down to 56-51. A 6-0 run for Millrats made it 62-51 and ended the season for Game Theory.
Radio led Millrats with 15 points and finished 3-of-5 from distance. Ridley Johnson scored 13 points and Stan Ocitti added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Fass had a game-high 16 points while grabbing nine rebounds. Henry only scored 10 points after scoring the first six points for Game Theory.
Radio wins MVP with his clutch three-pointers and his team-high 15 points.
Thank you all for a great season and congratulations Millrats with the win!
