Winter 2011: A 5v5 League Champs: MKT

BARROS LAMBERT POWER MARKET BOSTON TO TIGHT VICTORY.
    Market Boston 81 Millrats 77

Tony Barros and James Lambert both had huge games for Market Boston as they squeaked out a victory over the Millrats.  To start the game both teams were launching from deep but few were connecting.  However, each time one team would find the range, the other would come down and drain a three on the ensuing possession.  The Millrats were largely paced by the play of Pierry Valmera in the first half.  Valmera was grabbing o-boards left and right and putting them back for 10 first half points.  Unfortunately, he found himself in foul trouble early and had to come out.  Throughout the first half neither team lead by more than 6 points.  Each team was playing tough D and baskets were hard to come by.  At the end of the first half, Market was able to string a couple of hoops together and take a 39-35 lead into the break.

To open the second half, John Murphy and Lambert hit back to back threes and it looked like Market was going to start to cruise but the Millrats Brandon Ball stole the ball and went coast to coast for 2 of his 11 points and quickly shifted the momentum.  After scrapping back to tie the game at 53-53 with 10:16 remaining to play, the Millrats looked poised to take the lead but Barros and Lambert took over.  Barros started draining threes and Lambert was getting to the rack at will.   The tide had turned and the stunned Millrats found themselves in a 10 point hole.  After a timeout, the Millrats regained their composure and started to mount another comeback led by Jared Hardwick’s offense and John Brandt’s hustle.   Brandt helped create turnovers and  Hardwick ran the floor to finish two fast break layups as well as nailing a three during the run.  Despite cutting the lead to as little a 3 points, the Millrats just could not stop Lambert and Barros on the offensive end when it really mattered.  Down the stretch the Millrats were forced to foul and even though Market showed some shaky free throw shooting the Millrats were unable to convert on the other end.    Market held on to take home the hard fought 81-77 victory and the winter 2011 championship crown.
