The X-Men have done it. They are the rightful A1 Champions for the Summer of 2011.

In spite of being down 8 points early, the X-Men came roaring back to close the first half with a small lead. And then they turned the 2nd half into a coronation as they beat a very game Anaconda \'Whooo\' Liquors team by the final score of 80-61 to win the prestigious A1 Championship this session.

Early on, this looked like Anaconda\'s game. James Bartelle was fantastic as he grabbed 5 points and 9 rebounds in the game\'s first ten minutes. He hit the boards hard in the title game. But, undoubtedly, Arren Perkins was the firestarter. The Killa Beez maestro had 6 big points early along with a host of steals. Arren would be making great plays all night, as evidenced by the box score...what impact he had. Also, Nate Mendes aka Extreme Speed hit two tremendous back-to-back triples to turn a 2-point lead into an 8-spot with about 8:00 left in the first half. Things looked very good here, but sadly, this was the apex for Anaconda.

James Frazier showed up a few minutes late so he started on the bench. When he entered the court, the pace changed for the X-Men in a good way. This man may be the new pitchman for Windex because I\'ve never seen anyone clean the glass this well before. Frazier was snatching rebounds, but he was also putting back his own misses constantly. He must have had 12 points off his own misses. Frazier\'s lay-ups were huge as they brought that A-w-L lead down before the game was tied with 5:00 left in the first half. Then came the turning point.

And it was written by Adam House. House did a nice job using his size matchup on Perkins to get into the paint, but he splashed in a gigantic 3 to give X-Men the lead. And in the closing seconds of the half, his lay-up with :04 to put the X-Men up seven points was a dagger, in retrospect. Frazier with 15/8 at the break, House with 8 and 5, while Malcolm Green was silent but deadly with 6 pts and 8 rebounds. This spelled good things for X-Men.

Sure, the next ten minutes were about even as Anaconda ran it more, but X-Men scored just as much as the lead yo-yoed between 8 and 11 points. After that point, the size match-ups favored X-Men, who had a poor outside shooting night. However, they got way more quality looks inside. Raj was terrific as he converted some big plays, while Gregg Dennis made some nice plays getting into the paint and on the defensive end. McCarthy hit a giant 3 that iced the game while Malcolm dominated at points, grabbing 13 of his 19 in the 2nd half as he drove with fury. And yes, the Finals MVP, Frazier kept it up by putting up another 17 points in the 2nd half.

This was a true team performance. The X-Men were dominant champions that won tough games throughout as they rose to the challenge. Watching them, you could tell that they enjoyed playing with each other and each one of them was great in their role within the team. Chalk this one up to the best team winning.

Individually, Raj has his 1st A1 title in 7 years, an impressive feat. Dennis and McCarthy are champions in their rookie seasons. Adam House is currently defending 2 championships in this league, which says a lot about him because he\'s a winner. Malcolm Green and James Frazier can both lay claim to being 1st-rounders next season as they both proved how good they are. Frazier\'s superlative season was capped off with a Finals MVP to match his MVP runner-up regular season. More importantly, these six guys have the title, which is the grandest prize of them all.

Many congrats to Anaconda \'Whooo\' Liquors for making a great run to the title game and more kudos to the X-Men, the undisputed Summer 2011 A1 Champions!
