Winter 2011: A Draft League Champs: ABUSE

    ABUSE - WORLD CHAMPS
    Slaughterhouse Six 66 ABUSE 69

So sorry for the delay – but I am a very busy person and as much as I wish it wasn’t so, CAC basketball just doesn’t make the top of my list.  Maybe since its been so long, it means that this will be the best write up ever!  Or maybe not…who knows!

Here it goes…this season’s championship game was a face off between ABUSE and Slaughterhouse Six.  Early in the season, it became clear that this would be the match up.  Slaughterhouse Six got off to an early start and went up on ABUSE.  That coupled with House’s early tech, put ABUSE in a small hole.  Nothing they couldn’t handle though!  Armstrong played lights out offense in the first half with Ollquist knocking down big shots too.  The game was called super tight, especially in comparison to how Billy called the games all season. Players were frustrated by this and ABUSE’s House and Watson got in early trouble.  Poling caught fire and made a few shots to bring his team within 6 points.  Gerrity struck back with a big 3 to make the score 41 to 32.  Great offense and defense by both teams to close the half.  But before it ended, S. Mulholland fouled Watson to send him to the line for 3 shots!  The half ended with a score of 37-41 with Slaughterhouse Six in the lead.

The second half rolled out with intense play from both teams.  Poling managed to tie up the game with a huge 3 48-48.  The league’s 3-point shooter Ollquist couldn’t let these go unanswered so he added two of his own to make the game 59-56.  The battle continued on with some hard fouls and some good acting to get lots of players to the line.  House took the ball to the hoop with some great moves to bring his team within 1.  The teams went back and forth – it was so intense I couldn’t keep up my notes!

With just seconds left to play, the two teams were neck and neck!  I thought we were OT bound for sure…but that all changed when ABUSE had the ball to inbound!  Watson got the ball. Turned.  Shot. In – ABUSE wins by three with an unbelievable shot from Watson!  Final score 66-69.

    Some random/important notes:

    ABUSE:

    • Outstanding offense by Poling – best looking shot at CAC!
    • Chanel played great all around (O&D) – lots of assists
    • House and J. Mulholland – lots of strong takes to the hoop and rebounding that really made a difference.
    • Watson – word on the street is that he’s moving!  What a way to go out.  Awesome shot at the buzzer!

    Slaughterhouse Six:

    • Great O play from Armstrong and Ollquist – strong, consistent D too.
    • Gray has been on the up all season and came through big in this game. Great hustle player with great improvements offensively over the season!
    • Gerrity – big 3’s and an awesome teammate – very encouraging – and always on top of the foul count for players.
    • S. Mulholland – outstanding D and rebounding.  Knocked down some big shots too!

This crazy match was followed by an exciting all star game!  Nice job to everyone this season and thanks for making the games so interesting to watch for me!

    ABUSE 94  Sexy Feet 75

    Sexy Feet walk away ABUSEd

The A draft league began with lots of intensity and physical play as ABUSE outscored Sexy Feet 94 to 75 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvMFHXcd0yQ).  ABUSE ran the game with impressive contributions from all players.  The new guy, Mills came to play with impressive rebounds and steals.  Watson played well too shooting 75% from behind the arc!

Sexy Feet did not give up without a fight, however, with solid free throw shooting (when they had the chance).  Dorey and Mytro had the sexiest feet with 24 and 22 points respectively.  The full potential of this team might be more easily recognized when more than 4 players total get the chance to shoot free throws.  Maybe Sexy Feet with take less ABUSE next week!

Citizen Clown 77  Wicked Automatic 68

    Wicked Automatic, not so automatic

Monday night was an exciting one as Citizen Clown beat out Wicked Automatic 77 to 68.  If you weren’t watching, you missed this!  The stat sheet is full for Citizen Clown with great work from all players.  Mulholland started out well from behind the arc but then seemed to lose his touch (he made up for it shooting 4 for 4 from the free throw line and ripping down 12 rebounds total).  Good thing Matt Kaplan was there to take over shooting 66.6% repeating from three point land!  Kaif Thompson caught fire in the second half scoring 10 points total with 2 steals.  Impressive rebounding and unselfish play with lots of assists contributed to Citizen Clown’s win over Wicked Automatic.

Like the first, this was a physical game too!  Pete Wilson and Chris Kerr lead Wicked Automatic scoring 23 and 24 points.  Wilson’s 6 steals and solid contributions from other teammates kept this game tight for a while.  A rematch of this game is sure to be an exciting one!

Slaughterhouse Six 87  The White Sheet 74

Slaughterhouse does some slaughtering of its own (well maybe I wouldn’t call if slaughtering, but they won)

Slaughterhouse Six beat out the White Sheets 87 to 74.  The slaughter began with intense play from both teams and the tone of the game was set when Mike Gerrity hit a deep 3.  The rest of the team followed suit with all but one player hit one or more three pointers.  Brett Armstrong led the team with some fancy passing and 30 points.  Dan Macgregor had three steals and Scott Mulholland had 5 blocks!  Dan Ollquist stood out with 5 assists to teammates.

The White Sheet also played well led by the night’s high scorer Chris Mjhsadkjnkjsh (just kidding, I know its Maciejczak) with 35 points.  Mike Kuzdeva dominated the boards with 10 defensive rebounds.  Adam Kurtzer played well too with many rebounds as assists.
