Buddy Lee defeats Johhny Cakes and captures the brick with CPW earning MVP.
Buddy Lee 75 Johnny Cakes 69
This was at odd night at CRFC as there were fewer fans/hecklers in the balcony for the championship game than I had seen for an A1 game this season. The lead was traded back and forth in the opening 20 minutes but a put back by Chris Williams (17 1st half pts) gave Buddy Lee a 43-39 as the teams retreated to the locker rooms (or the hallway) for halftime. The main reason that the Johnny Cakes were still in this one was the 14 first half points that Tim Brady (18 pts, 15 rbs for the game) racked up. Buddy Lee continued to drop the ball down to the block in the 2nd half but this time the main recipient was Mike Roache (16 pts). Mike scored all 6 of Buddy Leeís in the first 5 minutes of the seconds but JC didnít close the lead as both teams were really hankering down defensively. The game stayed close and after 2 free throws by GP (24 pts) the score favored Buddy Lee 59-58 with 3:47 remaining in the contest. BL continued to do what worked and feed the ball into CPW (23 pts, 13 rbs) but instead of scoring he unselfishly made the right decision and found the open man (5 asts as well) who hit big shots. The first time being Mike Roache from the foul line pushing the lead to 3 and another time Dan Salazar (8 pts, TONS of harassing defense) form 3-land to push the lead to 8 with just over a minute remaining. But poor FT shooting from BL (4 consecutive 1 of 2 trips to the line) and some smart play, JaySar (16 pts) drawing a foul on a 3 attempt, made it interesting but Johnny Cakes couldnít break through. A well deserved championship for Ramonís (18 pts, 6 asts) squad with playoff MVP honors going to CPW (20 pts, 12 rbs, 3 asts, 3 stls per game for Buddy Lee 3 game championship run). My apologies to everyone whoís team qualified for the A1 playoffs (my team did not), as apparently Chris drew inspiration from my predicting a loss for his squad in each playoff round. Also lets take a moment and give some props to OíCal for predicting this 4 months ago (http://www.crfcbasketball.com/tcorner.php?newsid=62). Congratulations to Buddy Lee for a hard fought championship in what many have said was the most talented and competitive A1 league CRFC has seen yet (until next season).
