Spring 2009: A1 League Champs: Write It Off

Write It Off Claims the BRICK with an undefated 13-0 Season
Write It Off 81 Air Jortan 70

It's PStone's world, and here at C.A.C., we're all just living in it. Finally, after two whole seasons toiling away, without an MVP award to show for it, he made a statement in this playoff run to lead Write It Off to the A1 crown.  In this post-season, Chris Brown wishes he could be PStone, as the MAN averaged 29+ ppg, 20+ rpg and nearly 7 assists.  That's just, that's just absurd ladies and gentleman, the man earned this MVP award fair and square, there can be no arguements!!

Undefeated, 13-0, think about that!  An absurd feat that obviously took a special team to do it.  The Finals MVP wasn't on his own out there. Mytro, a steal in the third round, will surely go in the top 11 next season.  Good thing Macho was able to get it done with this squad while he could, no way, unless another Mytro shows up, that this could happen again.  The Bouncer is just unstopable when he puts his mind to it and had another great outing in the finals.  I'm excited to see how he handles the pressure of being a first round pick next season and not being able to rely on a guy like PStone to have his back every week.

And then there is T'N'Tosti.  The man who has led the A1 in 3 point % since we started tracking it online had his lowest output, in terms of points per game, what he does best, since the Fall of 2006.  Didn't matter, as he willingly took a backseat to Mytro and PStone, and it resulted in his fifth A1 championship.  Any team he plays on just has a great chance to win, and this is his second in a row.

The Macho Man just puts together winners.  He got a great season out of himself and Covert, doing all the little things that turn into wins, 13 of them in a row.  I mean Macho's last two teams are a combined 25-1. No way he can stop now, he's GOT to come back next season and captain!!

Oh right, there was actually a game played last night, now that I'm done slobbering all over the greatness that was Write It Off.  They played it out in typical fashion, let Air Jortan hang around in the first half before placing their foot on the throat.  It just took a 15-4 run to start the second half to expand the lead and all of a sudden, 2 minutes later, they were up 20 and never looking back.  Timely 3s (10-28) and a renewed energy on defense really put Air Jortan in a hole they could never climb out of.  The shots that were falling in the first half for Super Mario and Kaif betrayed them in the second frame and the sputtering offense was never able to keep up.  And don't be fooled by the modest statline I dropped in, it was way worse than that considering 5 of my points came in the last minute of the game.  Another disappointing playoff finals loss (1-6!!) and it hurts most because no one wants to let O'Cal down.  He IS C.A.C. basketball, and the Summer season is when HE wins the Brick damn it all!!

Summer 09 A1 Write It Off by you.

Congrats to the 13-0 undefeated A1 Champs - Write It Off!

Swinerrific 72  Nothing But Wet 73

F/OT Its Got to Be the HeadBand!!!

Poor Poor Swinerrific and TSpin.  Fellas, I am alllllll too familiar with the feeling of hearbreart (thank you Father Shanley).   In this one, Swinerrific had the W in their hands until Phil Lord hit a buzzer beating half court shot to win the game.

This was a grat battle, back and forth as everyone stepped up and contributed.

Nothing But Wet held a comfortable first half lead as a stroke of luck propelled the offense.  Coming down the lane, Phil lord caught an inadvertant elbow and got a minor cut above the eyebrow.  Kahana, proving that no good deed goes unpunished, offered up his spare headband to cover the cut.  From there, Phil would hit 6 shots in a row.  Needless to say, I am borrowing one of RoY's headbands tomorrow.  Making matters even worse for Swinerrific, KO was passing the rock unbelieveably.  Everyone knows Cuba has an engine that just NEVER quits.  TOnight, my man was rewarded by KO as he continually beat his defender to spots and when KO found him, Cuba finished, big dick style in the paint.

In the second half, Swinerrific battled back as Nelly and RoY showed why at the onset of the season, why they were going to be a feared one-two punch (throw in Salazar and on paper thats a tough crew).  Down 7, with 5 minutes to play, Swinerrific needed someone to step up and be the hero.  Enter the TSpin...The man who loves the big shot, threw in a second big trey to cut the lead to one.  Once TSpin set it up, RoY knocked it down with a sensational take to claim the lead for the first time of the game.

KO and Nelly would battle back and forth in the final minutes to draw a stalemate, (which included an unreal two handed blk by Nelly, followed by a sick post spin by KO) meaning we were going to extra time to settle this one.

In OT, Ociffer Paulie G Thang wresteled a big offensive board away from Wet and converted on the bucket.

It all looked like Swine would hold onto the 2 pt victory and taste the sweet sweet nipple of victory....BUT shes a Tarty Temptress as Phil Lord, ROY's HEADBAND and ALL got the rock with 2 seconds at half court and unleashed a prayer, which BANKED in.

    OUCH!!!

CBB Reactions slowed by Beer - 2 Points in Final 8 minutes

C.A.C. Basketballers: The regular season is over, it's time to hold your spot for the Fall 09 Season starting in September!! The A1 League is already nearly full, so don't wait any long!  Got a team you want to put in a different league? You can find all the information you need here and it will all be on the website in the next week or so. To save a spot for your team, simply email CACBasketball@gmail.com and let me know if you have any questions!

Conquer By Breeding was on their way to a fairly uneventful win. You know how it goes, your main guys score a bunch of points, Frail shockingly knocks down a couple open jumpers and Ryan adds a few 3 balls.  You're up 10 most of the way and you know, fairly uneventful game. Jumpman had only gotten hurt once (heh, Hurtman23, good call DMeezey!) and was hogging the ball, not letting anyone else touch it as he approached 30 points early. RoY was having a quiet night filling in for Pistol Pete, there was no Ceddy, Lee was gathering in his usual boards and DRuff hadn't found his J all night.

Nothing to worry about, right?|! You're up 60-50 with 8 minutes left, going towards the 'good' hoop. Piece of cake, just keep doing what you do and you clinch a playoff spot.  Apparently that's a lot harder than it sounds.

Beer Muscles ripped off an 18-2 run over those final 8 minutes of the game for a stirring comeback to clinch their own playoff spot (and since NBW is the only other 3-7 team, no matter what CBB is in the post season as well).  It started innocently enough, a RoY pull up 3. But then DRuff got a steal and knocked down his own bucket, Lee gets an offensive board (and hits the layup!!) and all of a sudden, the game is tight.  No one can hit a free throw, no one can hit a bunny, Playboy reverts to Sunday night form, and it all falls apart.  Sadly, Beer Muscles will be in the playoffs, but uh, you can't pick up subs then!!

Mario Casal came out red hot for Air Jortan, hitting 3 of his first 5 threes and sparking his team to an early double digit lead that they would never give up.  He didn't just get hot early, he stayed that way all night, hitting 6 of 13 to snap his shooting slump and co-lead the squad with 20 points.  While he provided plenty of O, he was also working on defense, helping in the lane and getting some big blocks.  It looked like he and Kaif were channeling each other.  K had the mid-range falling and was taking his defender to the hoop to also chip in 20.  And yea, he had 5 blocks and played fantastic help defense as always, limiting Chris Kerr to just 9 points and 9 boards. Yea, that's a double single, I don't think Kerr has had a game like that EVER in his C.A.C. career.

The Ragin' Bull, once behind so big, had trouble kick starting the offense.  It doesn't help that he had a Stallion in his way. These guys go at each other hard and last night was no exception.  I just want to know how neither O'Cal nor Dorey picked up a foul in this one. You're telling me that two guys that go at each other 110% didn't touch each other once?? O'Cal loves touching boys ! Man...

Weapon X still gets the two seed, but will need to figure out a crisper rotation for the playoffs if they have 6 guys and want to advance past the first round.  Air Jortan recovers in time to hold onto that # 3 seed and will need more shooting like that from Mario and just as much ball distribution from everyone if they're going to last as well.

Harvs AARPer/Bangers Still Got Some Lead in their Pencils

Very impressive showing from the Wallbangers as they step up into 3rd place with a victory over the CACage.

In the 1st half, Chanel No. 5 and Yavor were providing some serious firepower from beyond the arc as each would drop 5 a piece to help get CAC a 1pt lead heading into the 1st half.

In the 2nd half, the Bangers had to step up the D on the perimeter and who better to set the tone than my personal favorite Sunday commentator, Harv, as he had a HUGE BLK!  Wrobz began wreaking havoc on the CACage D, having his own rendition of a 5 trey game.  With Wrobz stretching the D, JRod and Roach found it that much easier to get to the rack in the 2nd half to blow the lead up to double digits.

The CACage made one last ditch effort as Majic would rain down 2 treys, and Yavor would tie the game at 56.  But that was as close as it would get, because the Bangers could not be stopped on offense.

Cheese would put the nail in the coffin with a corner trey, on one leg to boot and the Bangers keep steadily climbing the ranks in A1

10-0 Don't Mean a Thing, Without that Brick

For the second straight season we've got a team that's 10-0 as we head into the post season.  But as Macho knows all too well, 10-0 doesn't mean a whole lot if you're not hoisting the Brick when it's all said and done.  I'm pretty sure this group of guys is motivated enough not to let a lack of effort hold them back, it's going to take a colossal effort to knock them down.

First they had to finish the season 10-0 though, and Poker Face wasn't going to just lay down and die for them.  Oh no, Sweens and MacGregor had other plans.  And that was to simply outscore them.  It worked for half a game, but when Biehler isn't scoring until there are 7 minutes left in the game, and Hot Sizzle is a Turin-Over machine, 69 points won't get it done!!

That's cuz PStone and Mytro are simply too big!! They jsut get the rack, and when PStone is breaking ankles, stepping back for 3, you know you're in trouble.  Hell, Tosti is STILL just sititng back, taking it all in, this time with 12 points on 4-10 shooting from downtown. I don't think he drove to the hole once. He's just saving it all for the playoffs right?!? If so, god help us all, I'm having flashbacks already...MACHOOOOOO was aggressive as ever, especially while staring down MixTape on the other sideline, and had himself a nice little ditty.

For those that are wondering, the playoff schedule will be emailed Sunday night (one more game to decide everyone's fate) and if you're looking for last night's recap of CACage vs WallBangers, head to week 1, it will be up shortly.
