Spring 2009: A1 League Champs: Write It Off

Write It Off Claims the BRICK with an undefated 13-0 Season
Write It Off 81 Air Jortan 70

It's PStone's world, and here at C.A.C., we're all just living in it. Finally, after two whole seasons toiling away, without an MVP award to show for it, he made a statement in this playoff run to lead Write It Off to the A1 crown.  In this post-season, Chris Brown wishes he could be PStone, as the MAN averaged 29+ ppg, 20+ rpg and nearly 7 assists.  That's just, that's just absurd ladies and gentleman, the man earned this MVP award fair and square, there can be no arguements!!

Undefeated, 13-0, think about that!  An absurd feat that obviously took a special team to do it.  The Finals MVP wasn't on his own out there. Mytro, a steal in the third round, will surely go in the top 11 next season.  Good thing Macho was able to get it done with this squad while he could, no way, unless another Mytro shows up, that this could happen again.  The Bouncer is just unstopable when he puts his mind to it and had another great outing in the finals.  I'm excited to see how he handles the pressure of being a first round pick next season and not being able to rely on a guy like PStone to have his back every week.

And then there is T'N'Tosti.  The man who has led the A1 in 3 point % since we started tracking it online had his lowest output, in terms of points per game, what he does best, since the Fall of 2006.  Didn't matter, as he willingly took a backseat to Mytro and PStone, and it resulted in his fifth A1 championship.  Any team he plays on just has a great chance to win, and this is his second in a row.

The Macho Man just puts together winners.  He got a great season out of himself and Covert, doing all the little things that turn into wins, 13 of them in a row.  I mean Macho's last two teams are a combined 25-1. No way he can stop now, he's GOT to come back next season and captain!!

Oh right, there was actually a game played last night, now that I'm done slobbering all over the greatness that was Write It Off.  They played it out in typical fashion, let Air Jortan hang around in the first half before placing their foot on the throat.  It just took a 15-4 run to start the second half to expand the lead and all of a sudden, 2 minutes later, they were up 20 and never looking back.  Timely 3s (10-28) and a renewed energy on defense really put Air Jortan in a hole they could never climb out of.  The shots that were falling in the first half for Super Mario and Kaif betrayed them in the second frame and the sputtering offense was never able to keep up.  And don't be fooled by the modest statline I dropped in, it was way worse than that considering 5 of my points came in the last minute of the game.  Another disappointing playoff finals loss (1-6!!) and it hurts most because no one wants to let O'Cal down.  He IS C.A.C. basketball, and the Summer season is when HE wins the Brick damn it all!!

Summer 09 A1 Write It Off by you.

Congrats to the 13-0 undefeated A1 Champs - Write It Off!

    Swinerrific 75  Poker Face 80

Poker Face makes it 3 in a row

After an 0-4 start no less.  This is definitely one of the hottest teams in the League, and one no one should want to play down the stretch or in the post season.  Apparently we can all thank Mixtape for finally showing up and making this team a contender!! But how many more games is he going to make, and why, oh why, is he STILL starting, despite only being to a couple? Oh yea, and why the hell is he still throwing that full court under hand lob pass?! No one can catch that thing!!

Some of those we may never know the answer to, but we do know that Poker Face is officially in the playoff hunt despite that terrrrible start.  AB was a man on a mission in this one, handling the ball most of the time, but dropping dimes left and right as well as putting the ball in the hoop.  Swinerrific was understaffed, and even fully, they might not have had the bodies to cover both him and Sizzle.  Sweens tossed in 11 of his 13 in the first half when the offense was struggling, so he kept them afloat for much of the way.

When Salazar showed for Swine's boys, it seemed like the tide was turned for good.  He hit a couple early 3s, BFrat played out of his gd baked mind, and they were on a roll.  But the second half, MacGregor came alive.  Fresh off the pain of the US blowing a 2-0 lead against Brazil (yea, it hurt more than most of you hoop heads can imagine, I shouldn't be surprised, but f it, they were up 2-0!!), MacGregor channeled his pain into energy and ripped apart Swinerrific in the second half.  No one could stay in front of him, and he was breaking ankles creating room to get a shot off.  Swineriffic had no answer for him down the stretch and they're the ones that now desperately need some wins to make the playofss!

This seems like it should be self explainatory if you look at the stats.  Greenberg is like a mini-Superboy (in that he still can't hit layups) but is the perfect defender, in that, you know, he actually tries.  I can't stand it when people touch me, so I was useless for all but the 7 minutes that he sat on the bench throughout the game.

And when that useless guy is your leading scorer, that's bad news.  The bunnies and the jumpers that had been falling for Air Jortan through their 5 game winning streak all disappeared.  Mario was praying for 3s that never fell, and O'Cal, my man (yes I <3 O'Cal for those wondering if Jillian's latest blog  is accurate) shoot the ball more!! Stop passing to me. And yea, I'm coaching through the press, what of it?

This game was close until Ceddy, you know that Reffing Teddy, went absolutely bananas from 3 point range.  Didn't matter who was in his face, or if he was wide open, he was knocking them down. Figures he picked this week to have his best shooting night of the season.  Kaif kept the Jumpman frustrated most of the night, but you know Terry, he's greedy, he's going to get his eventually and he did.  A demoralized second half for Air Jortan as they could have kept pace with the big boys, but instead drop a game.  With Write It Off looming large next week, they'll (we) need to snap out of their (our) funk if they went to take down the unbeatens.  Lets brush this off as a letdown game.

Serge, meanwhile, now has his boys in position for the playoffs? Who thought I'd ever type that?  They'll need a couple more wins, but it could happen!!

Ain't No Sunshine for CBB's Upset hopes

"He's Dangerous, Macho is so Dangerous" ~ PStone

I  think he wrote that for MACHOOOO, who had another monster game, and despite the absence of their Man. In. The. Middle. Write It Off stayed unbeaten in the Spring 09 A1 season.  Can these guys be beaten? Everyone has taken a week off for them and it still hasn't mattered.  Unreal.

And I'm sorry, but how the hell does CBB let Macho go off for 27 like that? Frail, Remember the Time, you said Macho would'nt score 20 on you guys?  Dude's averaging 20+ per game!! At this rate i'm going to just give him every A1 award and be done with it!! He's the new King of Pop, told Frail, 'You just Can't Win"

The early part of the game looked promising.  Cuntry Grammar was leading the way and CBB was up comfortable.  Hell they were keeping T'N'Tosti in check, not letting him bomb tooooo many uncontested 3s, and it resulted in his worst shooting night of the season.  That'd still be 33% for those of you wondering, which is better than most of you, and I, will shoot for the entire season.  Dude's still Dangerous, but I just had to throw it out there.

But then Mytro flipped a switch and went into attack mode.  The man created havoc on the defensive end, causing turnovers and getting out on the fast break and playing Off the Wall. Seriously, you guys only had to slow one man down, and couldn't do it? Terrrrrrrrible.  All of a sudden, there was Blood on the (Dance) floor like CBB was hit by a Smooth Criminal.  Billy, are you ok? Are you ok Billy?

When things go bad, they usually get worse.  Despite Billy (jean) tossing in 28 there was to be no comeback.  There was no 'one more chance' The Playboy didn't touch the ball for a solid 7 minute stretch at one point in the second half. That's Bad.  How could CBB let that happen? I thought first round picks were supposed to win games! But no, he was invisible it seemed.  Macho and Mytro wrapped this bad boy up at the free throw line.  I tried to fit Butterflies in there somewhere, but it just wouldn't work...

    Weapon X 78  Harvey's WallBangers 65

Weapon X uses Late Rally to overcome WallBangers

The WallBangers had a double digit lead for, oh about 31 of the 38 minutues in this game.  That's right, 36 minutes, as we had yet another 4v4 game on this night.  Unfortunately for them it was the first 31 instead of the last, and they've now dropped 3 in a row.  To start the game, Roache was red hot and the Hitman could do no wrong.  But without Cheese (done for the season?) this team just doesn't have the same ball movement and intensity it did to start out the Spring season.

It was only a matter of time before the Ragin' Bull got hot.  After being held scoreless for the first 7 minutes, he went on a tear to end the half with 16 points and pull his squad within 8.  The great thing about this Weapon X team, is that no matter who ends up showing up, they know to get the ball to Dorey and Kerr. I love it when AK and Fincke play the point forward positions or bang down on the glass.  Dorey learned from last season's disaster and made sure to grab quality role players in every position once he got Kerr (a steal at the sixth pick!!)

Speaking of the Camero, it was Kerr who sparked the run that gave Weapon X their first lead.  Down 9 points, Kerr finally beasted Wrobz in the post (first time all night, attack the hoop strong!!) and then hit back to back 3s with a hand in his face.  Top that off with a Dorey trey of his own and Weapon X went on an 11-0 run in about 45 seconds.  It was all cruise control from there. Another 13-2 run and the game was over in the blink of an eye.  Despite Wrobz late 3s, Weapon X had built up enough of a lead to withstand the run and keep Write It Off within their sites!

Nothing But Wet 75  The Stimulus CACage 62

First One is always the Hardest

Lots of 4v4 action tonight, and the last game of the night was no exception.  I love it because that means I get 18 minute halves and get out on time!  With this, their first win, Nothing But Wet sits just a game outside the playoff picture.  That despite starting 0-6. These guys can still make a run at the postseason, I've definitely seen stranger things happen at C.A.C. But they'll have to do it without Finn, who's done for the season with a broken finger and probably going to need some sergery.  I wonder if there's a table he can lay on?

In this one, Nothing But Wet rode the broad, tan shoulders of KO to their huge win.  Dude was unstoppable in the paint, scoring 34 points and actually hitting, for him, a good clip from the free throw line.  But he wasn't alone, it was definitely a team effort.  CUBA was the #2 man, heh, duece, and Hinks tossed in a nifty double double, rna the point and handed out 7 assists.  Can the man get some recognition around these parts?! I mean he is the WebMaster and one of the last old school guys we have.  We don't want to chase him out like the Wolverine. Dude's in a museum, on disply, over at the Kennedy, in case you hadn't heard.

Anyway, Yavor and Majic tried to keep the game close, and they did for the first half but couldn't keep up down the stretch. Despite Vladi running the show, dishing the rock and keeping everyone involved, it just wasn't meant to be.

Good to see KO back, and they'll need him full time to make a run at the playoffs, can they do it?
