Donnellys Welcome Hurtin to Hells Kitchen - Take Home the Brick
Hurtin' for a Squirtin' 61 The Black Donnellys 67
Mixtape (6 points) has finally, finally proven all the doubters wrong and taken home his first A1 Brick! Actually, for everyone on the Donnellys it was their first 'chip, everyone that is, except Machoooo (4 points) that is. He really is the championship caliber glue that every team needs. Paired with JMI, they came off the bench and didn't miss a beat all season long.
This game got off to a quick start, as Mike Davis (12 points, 3 steals) poured on 10 points in the first 7 minutes to help lead his squad to a 31-19 advantage. ICU was on fire, dropping 15 in the opening frame and getting to the rack at will. Sure, no one may have expected them to race out to a lead like that, but funny things can happen in the playoffs. Hurtin' finally settled down, and O'Cal (12 points, 8 assists) nearly single-handedly got his boy back in it. He was finding Boozer (13 points) and the Hitman (15 points, 6 assists) on the break and hitting a couple big shots. The diminutive (and I mean that in every way possible) point guard had his team re-focused and down only 4 at the break, as they grinded the game to a near standstill.
With the defense picked up, it was anyone's game. DGall (20 points, 11 boards) was steady throughout and made sure his team held a lead most of the way. Macho nailed a huge 3 to give his team a 5 point lead. Back and forth it went. Wrobz (19 points) started to turn it on, and everytime his team needed a bucket, he got them one. With 5 minutes to go, the game was tied at 50. But uncharacteristic turnovers and missed layups by Hurtin left them scoreless for the next 3. The parade to the free throw line was inevitable, and Davis (2-7 fts) left the door cracked open. Unfortunately, Hurtin' couldn't convert on their opportunities. Finally, ICU (25 points, 9-12 fts) put the game away for his squad and earned the MVP honors for his solid shooting night. Congrats to the Donnellys on finishing off a great season and proving that it doesn't matter how you finish the regular season, it's how you finish in the playoffs!
