Winter 2010: A2 League Champs: The Situation

Big Nice Routs Count It to Birth in Championship
Big Nice 73 Count It 54

From the opening tip, Big Nice came out playing hard and determined to put Count It away before they had a chance to pull a March Madness style upset.  Mazzy came out bombing and yapping, O'Cal ran the point and JPress was, as usual, quiet, cool and effecient.  On a team where shots are at a premium, Powder makes sure to make the most of the shots he does get, making sure to convert the bunnies and tough ones alike.

With CPW showing up late and providing fresh legs off the bench, Big Nice just ran out too many offensive weapons and overwhelmed Count It.  Despite Josh trying to shoot the team back in it, and Aziz busting @$$ on both ends of the floor, Count It was never able to threaten the lead.  The second half everyone was just going through the motions and waiting for the clock to tick down. Or maybe because it was the late game that was just DMac and I.  Not really sure.

Big Nice will take on The Situation in the A2 Final next week at 8:30 PM. Check the boards for the Awards this weekend as the A2 All Star Game will take place at 9:20 after the Finals!

    Commentary by TIBBS...

Big Nice is too big for Cool, Smooth, Illegal

Not that you guys donít already know this, but C.A.C. Basketball is back!! The Winter 2010 season features more great deals from Tommy Doyle's.  Head there after your game for Half Priced Appetizers on Thursday nights and $12 Pitchers! Don't forget, if you get a Tommy Point, it's good for one free drink!

Kicking off the first A2 4v4 season in 4 sessions (my guess from looking at the banners in the Wall Ball Arena) and bringing back the most competitive 4 on 4 league that the CAC offers was a great game between Big Nice and Cold, Smooth, Illegal.

Both sides started off the game cold as ice. There was about 20 points combined in the first 10 minutes and the half ended 30-22 in favor of Cold, Smooth, Illegal. Then it was like both teams went in the locker rooms and had some of MJís magic drink and the offenses took off. Big Nice erupted for 58 2nd half points led by the first triple double of the A2 season as Tom Kahana put on a show of 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Accounting for those assists and pacing the 58 point 2nd half for Big Nice was the big man duo of Jon Press and Chris Williams. Press led the offense with 33 points including 5 treys and 10 rebounds, while Williams chipped in 20 points and dominated the boards with 17 rebounds.

Cold, Smooth, Illegal didnít get the outcome they wouldíve liked in this game, but donít be fooled, they will be a team in every game this season. Adam Biehler led the show for CSI tossing in 22 points and coming down with 13 boards. Majic had 14 points and was 3 of 9 from the land of three, while Mike Ambra contributed 14 points and 13 rebounds for the defeated.

I hope to contribute more to these once I get to know the personalities of the CAC since everyone seems to know one another in this league but for now, good game and see you all next week.

F/OT - The Situation show off their muscles in OT for the victory

Surprise, surpriseÖÖ C.A.C. Basketball is back!! The Winter 2010 season features more great deals from Tommy Doyle's.  Head there after your game for Half Priced Appetizers on Thursday nights and $12 Pitchers! Don't forget, if you get a Tommy Point, it's good for one free drink!

The second game was easily the best of the night, although I did have slim pickens, you know, with only 4 teams in A2. The talent in this league is absurb. Not that I know any of you guys yet, but looking back through the website and seeing the numbers most of the players put up, there are going to be some straight up battles on Thursday nights. This game certainly lived up to the hype of being the best 4v4 league CAC basketball has to offer.

Count It pulled out of the gates out and took a 37-32 lead into the half. The two man show of Mike Fritz, 37 points including 4 of 6 from downtown and 7 of 7 from the charity stripe, and Aziz Sayigh, 31 points (3 of 4 from behind the arc and 6 of 7 from the line) kept Count It in the game from start to finish. However, we are playing 4 on 4 in this one.

The Situation didnít necessarily have more fire power, just more guns when it came down to the wire. Fritz and Aziz did everything they could, missing just 1 free throw combined in the final minutes of regulation, but the Situations shooters and slashers could not be contained. The balanced attack was led by Ian Kilpatrick who filled up the box score with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks.  Also contributing to the overtime victory were Jim (last name unknown) with 26 points, Bobby Colantonio with 17 and Mike ìCaddyî Cadman with 12.

Iím looking for more fireworks next Thursday, but I canít tell you where Iím looking for them since next weeksí schedule is not posted yet. Until then.
