If you had told me prior to the start of the season that Spin'Em would hoist the trophy I wouldn't have been all that surprised. If you had told me that Fri Lavey (35 points, 11 boards, 4 assists) would have had a monster game I ALSO wouldn't have been surprised. Now if you told me Fri would be overshadowed? Thats where you start to lose me.
If you would have told me the finals wouldn't be all that competitive? I would have been shocked! We've got a NUMBER of good teams in this league. The Young Bulls held their own all season long no matter the competition.
If you would have told me that Spin'Em would put up one of the best shooting performances in a Finals that I've ever seen? I mean Sweet Jesus they shot 14-22 from distance in the first half.
FOURTEEN FOR TWENTY-TWO!
The league's best offense put on an absolute show to wrap up the Summer. Finals MVP Pat Kelley (27 points, 9-14 3s, 6 assists) started 2-3. The Edgerley crew started 4-6 to really make things ridiculous. I mean check the tweets. Fri had 10 points as Spin'Em raced out to a 22-6 lead and never looked back.
Just when I thought it couldn't get more absurd it did. Brian hit one from the logo just to see if he could. Pat hit 6 3s in the first half and then opened up the second with 2 more in 45 seconds. I mean start to finish, front to back, left to right there was no escaping Spin'Em. They'd finish the night just south of 50% from downtown, 20-42 as garbage time allowed Tommy (2 points, 4 assists) and Walsh (3 points, #shouldhavebeenAdraftmvpin2019) to jack up a couple as well.
Its not like the Young Bulls offense or defense was bad. No one has an answer up against a team shooting this well. For the second straight season the Young Bulls make it to the chip only to be denied glory. I know this isn't how they or their fans wanted to end it. Anytime you can force the #1 seed to play a road game in the finals as you pack the stands you think you have an advantage. KB (17 points, 15 boards) and Clark (17 points, 13 boards) are going to have to be even better next season when this team makes the jump to A 5v5 on Thursday nights. Rid (10 points, 5 boards) came on strong in the playoffs but will need to bring the heat each week. I'm excited to read about how this team competes in that league next season!
For Spin'Em they're bumping up too, moving up to B1 5v5 next season. The Wednesday night CH-CH league will feature yours truly on the board with Spin'Em and Big Tuna, add the venerable Intramural Heroes (11-1 this past season) and Big Tuna's Kryptonite, Space & Pace! Should be a hell of a Fall season, we'll see you all back on the court soon!
