F18 BDraft Championship Play By Play: How It All Went Down: Nasty Nate Is Now In The Hall Of Champions !

It was finally Thursday, and these two Cinderella stories where coming to a head on collision. In typical CAC fashion we didn’t have a ref, as I started pacing around the MLK school a glimmer of hope came in a ref with scrubs on, we had a ref, we had a championship game!!

SS got things started as The Vet- Noah Spaulding posted up young Mcgovern for 2, trying to replicate his great performance from last week; it was 2-0 SS. After a ninja like Nate steal Manny would nail a gorgeous spinning baseline jumper 4-0 SS. Nate could taste blood, and his first B draft championship as he would pull up from Curry range ….Bang SS stormed out to a 7-0 run. Manny using the size advantage that he has over ANYONE, got himself to the line and hit 1-2, followed by yet again another DEEP Nate 3, SS was on fire 11-0 run to start this game. ESSAA looked like a deer in the headlights. The captain Cory Gans had about enough of this , and his team’s first shot, as he canned the 3 ball, making it 11-3. Howard and Corrigan slammed into each other hard resulting in no call that lead to Liam keeping his head and finding Gans for a midrange it was 11-5 ESSAA was waking up a lil bit. The Grim Reaper  wasn’t having that though as he would beast mode Evan in the post for 2 13-5 SS with 13:50 left in the 1st. Evan would get his change back as he would deliver a swooping hook 13-7. Manny would snatch a board cruised down the court stepped through a defender and scored but the whistle blew, and we had a travel call, The Reaper did not agree. Manny would come back, and cause yet another foul on Evan he would hit 1 of 2 but ESSAA had to worried about Evans foul trouble. Gans would hit a 3 , Nate would respond with a 2 the score sat at 16-10, play was stopped when Howard was hit in the baby makers and his voice dropped like 5 octaves. Evan would get to the line and hit 1 of 2, it was 16-11 with 9 min left. Evan was starting to really gain momentum as he would make Noah look dumb on a sick drive and finish to the cup suddenly it was 16-13 a nice push from ESSAA. SS would respond all day long as Howard had a grown ass man drive, added 2 blocks in a row, and then watched Manny hit another graceful ballerina like fade away it was 20-13 SS with 6:40 left in the 1st of this championship game. Evan felt his team on the ropes, and came punching back with a hard drive, and 3 ball, this sparked his team as Silva had a great pass to Mcgovern, and by god we had a new game it was 20-20 with 5 min left !!. Momentum was squarely in ESSAA’s corner as Mcgovern would have a O board put back for their first lead of the game, the lead did not last as Howard would have a silky smooth drive to the basket it was locked up at 22-22. Gans didn’t like the tie game bullshit, and would drian a pull up 3 25-22 with 3 min left. Evan was getting to the rack at will, and ,made the score 27-22, ESSAA was trying to put a choke hold on SS as they were on a 14-2 run. Howard would end the run with 1-2 from the line. Manny would post up , and same story he drew a foul on Evan, he would hit 1-2 also but the foul trouble had to be anxiety provoking for ESSAA it was 27-24 with 1 min left in the half. Nate tried to have the last laugh of the half as he would get to the rim for 2, but Cory big ball Gans would hit last second 3 , the captain’s for both team were balling out ! The score sat at 30-26, great half from Evan, and Gans had them in the lead but SS had a balanced effort as Nate lead the way with 10 points in the half.

Evan was ready to try, and put this one away as he would start the half with a sick fade away of his own maybe he learned it from Manny it was 32-26 ESSAA. Howard was a huge spark for SS, every time they needed a clutch play he delivered, he would snatch a steal, and went to coast to coast for 2 it was 33-28. Noah would finally make an impact with a 3 ball after a nice pass from Howard, Howard liked that so much that he would dime up Nate for a 3 on the very next possession suddenly it was 34-32 SS.  The MIP player Mcgovern was showing that improvement as he had a nice catch and 1 finish in the post bringing the score to 35-34 with 17:24 left.  Evan was trying to make his case form MVP as he would calmly knock down the 3 ball ESSAA had extended their lead back to 4 as it was 38-34 ESSAA in the driver seat. Manny would fight back with a ridiculously athletic drive to the cup to cut the lead to 2. SS was getting some nice stops at this point, nothing was easy for ESSAA, Nate would get fouled hit 1-2 and it was  one pint game 38-37 ESSAA continued to lead. The captain Nate was not going to let this game pass by as he would shake his defender and had a Irving like drive where he laid the ball off the top of the glass for 2 SS had the lead  39-38 with 14;50 to go !!!. Evan was playing for his brothers honor though, as he would slice, and dice his way to the cup it was 40-39 ESSAA. Nate to nasty Mendes shook that off, and hit yet another deep mofoen 3 , what a game !! Nates team had the lead 42-40 with 13:22 left in the championship game. SS would get a little careless here as Howard would let the ball go between his legs out of bounce for the turnover, and Nate would throw the ball out of bounce, but ESSAA just could not respond, SS kept responding on the other end as Manny would get hit with no foul call, but as he was falling to the floor threw the ball up high of the glass, and it dropped! Was this fate? It was 44-40 just unreal. Mike Maniac Mcgovern would respond in a huge way with an monster O board put back it was 2 point game 44-42. With just 10 min left. Manny would cause another foul on Evan as he looked to take over, he hit the shot but missed the FT on the and 1 attempt, it was 46-42 SS. SS defense was really on display ESSAA could not get anything easy, and SS was getting their hands on everything. Weir moment in the game where Corrigan would walk off and say sub but the ref did not hear him, and then T’ed up ESSAA for it, Austin was not happy , and caused a lil spat between him, and the ref. Noah would miss both FT’s however, Howard would miss a shot , and it looked like the Tech was irrelevant but Manny The Reaper would snatch an incredible O board, and finished it 48-42 SS! Gans had the eye of the tiger though as he would hit another big balls 3 to cut the lead to 3 48-45, what a fucking game !!. Howard would bulldoze his way to the hoop for a big 2 50-45. Evan would show no quit as he would hit a figure skater spinning hook shot to make it a one possession game 50-47. Howard was not shook as he put his tough guy rep to good use bullying his way to the hoop for another clutch lay in 52-47.  Gans was a man on a mission as he didn’t care about Nates story of not winning , as he savagely hit another fucking 3 it was 52-50!!!. Howard was so clutch during this stretch as he would pull up , and respond to the Gans 3 with one of his own, 55-50 SS. Gans would not be rattled wither as he would add a mid-range to keep his team close 55-52 with just 3:46 left in the F18 B draft season. SS would call their first timeout of the whole game as Manny had a hard collision , and was limping around like he had a knee injury, but returned after the TO. SS’s D would be specular down the stretch as they go the stop Nate was fouled hit both FT’s it was 57-52 with 1:55 left , the gym to could feel, it , I could feel it, Nate could feel it his first B draft ship was well in range. SS would get another important stop Manny would go 1-2 from the line making it 58-52. Noah would get fouled, Nate would get fouled and that was it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SS has done the unthinkable from the 7th seed to glory, NATE NASTY MENDES IS A B DRAFT CHAMPION !!!!!!!!!!!! 61-52 SS

    SS

Manny-A-Shooting was a bit off, but his aggressive style put pressure on Evan with the fouls and opened up everything for his team. Took over down the stretch

Howard-A- Chasmanian Devil of the Game: Gutsy, gutsy, gutsy, this man’s draft stock just went sky high, made all the championship plays.

Nate-A++++++++++++++++++- Lead his team to the ship and fucking balled out with a game high 25  poitns 5-7 from 3, and added 4 swipes.

Noah-B-)Not his best game but he will take the ring all day

Tsui-N/A- showed up very late, only played like 2 min, nice O board though

    ESSAA

Evan-A- Did everything he could, foul trouble would not let him be as aggressive/physical on d as he would have liked.

Liam-D- wow I didn’t think I would be writing this. Howard dominated Liam he was not aggressive enough at all, as he totaled 0 points in in this one.

Gans-A-Can’t get a plus for losing but man did he play great 6-8 from 3 nearly got the job done, just not enough though.

Mike-B-) Had some clutch buckets but only 6 boards in the game, I was expecting more

Silva-C-) Seemed way to hyped, shot was very quick and sporadic.
