Spring 2013: B Draft League Champs: TuneSquad

Lensanity ended by Marcel TS advances to Finals
Tune Squad 86 Harry Ls Trust Squad 75

I’ll be honest - the game between Harry L’s Trust Squad and TuneSquad wasn’t as good as the Eggs Tyrone - Napalm Death game, but the fact that there wasn’t a buzzer beating half court shot probably molded that opinion. The game though, was still really good. Here’s what went down.

HLTS’s first possession lasted only a second or two, because it was a three pointer from Rubin...that did not go in. On the other hand, TS had a flawless possession, that resulted in a Marcel layup directly off a pass from MC1. Thirty seconds into the game, and I thought I had an idea as to what would happen, but Lensanity happened.

TS jumped out to a 13-4 lead, simply because Marcel single handedly dominated the paint on both ends of the floor, Ian was making all of his shots (including a few threes), and MC1 was passing just as well as he can score. They were looking like they’d cruise to a title game appearance, but Tim Lens simply would not allow that to happen.

The lead was cut to three after a three from Rubin and Lens, to make it 13-10, with seven of those points coming from Lens. The trio of McRubatant (clever, right?) kept grinding away to make it 22-14, after a gorgeous MC1 layup, but Tim Lens responded back with another jumper of his own, 22-16. Lens had three points (on MC1) at this point.

Ian Rubiano broke the six point lead open with a three of his own to make it 30-21, TS, but Lens was primarily responsible for the 14-3 run HLTS went on. The lead was one, 34-33, with HLTS in the lead, thanks to Lens’ 23 points at that point in time. Marcel scored to regain the lead, and then Counts and Rubiano both made threes, making it 41-38 TS with just seconds left on the clock before the half. Rubin, with Lens spitting hot fire from his hands (28 points at the half, with only three misses!!!) decided that he would be the right person to take another three, and, he made it to tie it at 41. The question that everyone had on their mind was, can Lens literally carry HLTS to the title game? Remember, no Jake Golden or Harry Lebov for this game.

To start things off in the second half, TuneSquad went on a 9-0 run, which kinda ended the fun of Lensanity. MC1 started off the half with a layup and three, and Marcel joined in on the fun to make it 50-41 TS. Lens and Rubin continued to make buckets to make the team competitive, but up 3 after a Rubin layup, Counts made ANOTHER three to make it a six point game again, 65-59 TS. On the next possession, with MC1 still on roller skates, Lens shook him, and cooked him, nailing a step back jumper in his grill (again) to make it 65-61.

Once again, Marcel did whatever he wanted on Hurley (31/14 for Marcel, compared to 4/12 for Hurley) and scored in the paint again, and MC1 made another bucket to help me forget he was getting completely abused by Lens.

By the way, the dagger from the game? Oh, it was a Chris Counts step back three in the corner, 76-65, Tune Squad with just a few minutes left. Nice work, Counts - you really did swing the game. However, the game ball gets cut in half, with a piece going to Marcel, and a piece going to Lens, who had 40 points with only seven misses.
