Brads Betrayal escapes with a win in Sunny Ds absence
BRADS BETRAYAL 66 The Good Guys 62
Alright guys, here’s the write up for The Good Guys-Brad’s Betrayal 2nd round playoff game. I was a little slow in getting it up, so I apologize for that. Better late than never, right?
The storyline coming into the game was that Brad’s Betrayal could be wihout Sundell and MDA, which would’ve been huge. Without those two, BB would’ve been without a ball handler, and perimeter defense. Their was a lot of speculation, but in the end, MDA played, and Sundell was out.
The game started out with BB winning the tip, and MDA drilling a 3. I, along with everyone else watching above, thought that would just be the beginning of the end for GG, but MattyBells and crew wouldn’t have it.
Early on, Jmul, Hurley, and Marvin were getting points on the board for BB, but GG answered right back with offense in the post from Craig and Tibbs. Tibbs offense early on was good enough to give GG a 19-17 lead with 6:30 left in the 1st half, making everyone think the upset special could happen.
Down 27-23 at the half, BB knew they had to come out a lot more aggressively than they did in the 1st half, but they couldn’t do it. Matty had a nice assist to Sarro for his only 3 of the game, and the excitement op top was really brewing. Could this really happen? Would BB really be eliminated? Would MattyBells continue his streak of perfection?
Right after that 3, Jmul and Hurley went back to work, showing off post moves, and 3 point range. With MDA running the showing dishing out dimes, they were finally starting to click on offense, and were up 41-38. MDA went on to DRILL back to back 3’s, making it 47-38, with everyone but GG thinking that would be the final death blow. Once again, Tibbs, Craig, and Matty worked to chip away at the lead, and went on a ridiculous 13-2 run, giving them a 51-49 lead. Even Glumac chipped in with some huge baseline jumpers during the run, giving them yet another source of much needed offense.
With his team down, Jmul knocked down a big 3 to make it 52-51 with about 3 minutes left, and the GG looked shook by it. In my notes, I have Matty, Tibbs, and Craig each scoring after, giving them a 57-52 lead with about a minute left. THEY WERE GONNA DO IT! THEY WERE GONNA WIN!!!
…Wrong
Up 5 with the ball with less than a minute left, Sarro inexpliciably double dribbled, giving BB the ball back. MDA made a clutch 3 to make it 57-55. Right after, they immediately fouled, with GG going to the line for a 1 and 1. After botching the free throw, Mahoney charged down the court with time expiring, only to get rejected by Tibbs at the basket. Only problem was, Jmul was right there for the put back two, and we were going to OT.
In OT, I don’t have many notes, just that Tibbs had a clutch And-1 basket, down 61-58. He was at the line with the score now 61-60, and he blew the free throw. From then on, GG failed to rally back, and BB won 66-62.
The GG should not bow their heads in defeat. It was a tough loss, but they gave them a run for their money like no other team did this season. There were 5-6 breaks at the end of the game that could’ve swung the result, with BB catching all of them. Next week, BB will meet LeBlanc and co. when they play Shootin’ Blanks.
Before I forget, MattyBells had this message for Tibbs...
