Winter 2014: B Draft League Champs: Numbers on the Board

Numbers on the Board win the W14 B Draft Title
Numbers On The Boards 71 Vinegar Strokes 60

April 17th, 2014 - The day Vinegar Strokes and Numbers on the Board played for the B Draft West Championship.

May 6th, 2014 - The day the write-up for the game is being posted.

Look, I’m going to be honest with you guys. I’m well aware my coverage sucked towards the end of the playoffs, and I’ve apologized for that. The final weeks of the season coincided with the final weeks of the semester for me, and as a result, I slipped in B Draft.

Please, put that blame on me.

    <object width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"//www.youtube.com/v/ynMk2EwRi4Q?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\"></param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"></param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"></param><embed src=\"//www.youtube.com/v/ynMk2EwRi4Q?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" type=\"application/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"></embed></object>

So, I obviously don’t have the stat sheet, but I’m going to write about each player, because to me, that’s more entertaining than a play-by-play, anyway.

    Vinegar Strokes

Billy Jackson - An inefficient seven points, six boards, and five assists. Wait, why did his draft stock skyrocket the past few weeks? Better yet, how did his draft stock skyrocket the past few weeks? Oh that’s right, he was the second option on offense for a good chunk of this season on a team that made the West Finals (sorry MC3) and played well in Franchise, too. Plus, he’s one of the sharpest dressers in the league. Right now, while you are reading this, he’s probably teaching his math class about True Shooting Percentage and Wins Above a Replacement Player in rec basketball leagues. Dude is dedicated.

Sean Flynn - I won’t rip Flynn at all. Sure, he didn’t have a stellar game, but the joke is and was already on me. I projected his team was going to suck, and instead, his team beat us without Strange AND made the West Finals. Sad face.

Brian McCauley - Another disappointing box score from an elite point guard in this league. Check this out:

    MC3 in F13: 15.8 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 8.4 APG, 3.1 SPG, 46% from three

    MC3 in W14: 12.3 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 4.9 APG, 2.6 SPG, 30% from three

With that being said, MC3 went from being the best PG in B Draft, to not even the best McCauley in B Draft. I don’t think he and Strange clicked the way they needed to to beat Numbers on the Board, just like Strange and MC2 struggled a few seasons ago, too. I’m still very much in the MC3 fan club, though.

Mike Strange - The guy doesn’t even touch a basketball prior to tip-off, and scores 30+ points AND VS actually had a 1 point lead midway through the second half. He did everything he could to keep this game competitive. Just Michael being Michael.

Chris Cavano - In a season’s time, he went from being ‘just a body’, to ‘just a body that can defend bigs’, to ‘a guy that can D up Marcel and Cousins type players’, to ‘captain I fear most entering the S14 season’. I’m impressed and scared, all at the same time.

Phil Altrock - I can remember the three he shot and made - it was one of those ‘No! No! Yes! Nice shot, Phil!’ shots.

    Numbers on the Board

Kofi Williams - I’d say something a little bit more positive about Kofi’s game in the West Final, but I won’t. The Kofi/Boyer feud is a real thing, now. Be prepared for a Tupac/Bigge-esque rivalry in this upcoming season of B Draft.

Noah Spaulding - Say what you want about Noah, but he’s the best captain in CAC Basketball. Check out what he posted earlier in the week:

Numbers on the Boards – B Draft Unification Champs

CaddyShack – Best regular season record

Eggs Tyrone – Lost in Finals

Deep Six - Best regular season record

East Invasion – Undefeated, B Draft Unification Champs

Oh, and during that same stretch my only other two GM performances resulted in making title game in Franchise and winning B Draft East.

Uh, he’s smart, and as much as it hurts to say, he’s not bad on the court. His 15 points and 7 rebounds, plus the ability to space the floor with his shooting was a big reason why #s won by double digits.

Kevin Tang - The things I said about Noah were supposed to lead up to my post about Tang. I never saw Noah more attached to a player/pick than he was about the 20th pick in the draft this past season. Noah must know that Tang flew to Germany with Kobe and got some sort of procedure done, or something.

Ian Rubiano - Don’t remember what Ian did in this game, but I bet he complained about a random player’s foul situation and/insulted my stats.

Kevin Bliss/Richard Yau - The bench mob for Numbers on the Board. If Noah were truly a great captain, these guys would get minutes/stats to talk about.
