Winter 2017: B Draft League Champs: Shooter Mgavins

    Chas wins his first ship
    Peacemakers 49 Shooter Mgavins 56

Ladies and Gentleman, we've reached the climax of the 2017 Winter BDraft season. The championship game featured, Chas's Shooter Mgavins vs. Noah's Peacemakers. Both of these teams were contenders throughout the season and it wasn't a surprise to anyone to see them in the ship game. None of the starters were missing, so no excuses for anyone. There was a new ref though, but he's one of CACs regular refs. TO THE ACTION:

Interestingly enough, Cavano didn't open the game on Shebertes, that was Ouellette's assignment and Cavano started on Chas. That looked to be the right move for Noah's team as Cavano completely shut down Chas in the first half. Although, in hindsight might not have been the best move for Ouellette who carried the team's scoring burden. At any rate, Noah's team got off to a fast start. Noah in particular got off to a fast start, getting some offensive putbacks and hitting some open treys. He would actually complete a double-double with 7 minutes left in the first half. This would allow his team to open up an 24-13 lead with 6 minutes left in the first half.

On the other side of the ball, it was Shebertes and only Shebertes was doing anything offensively for his team. Despite, good defense from Ouellette, Shebertes was still getting the looks he got all season and making enough to keep his team in the game. He had 15 1h points in this one and they needed everyone one of them, because the rest of the team couldn't make anything. Park had 5 1h points and Joel had 1 point in the first half, that was it. Park was having real trouble in particular, he had 5 points, but he might have had 5 turnovers too.

Peacemakers had the momentum in the first half and looked to be in complete control, even though Ouellette wasn't hitting like he usually does. He seemed to be out of the flow, but it didn't matter because Peacemakers were up 36-20 on the back of Noah and Cavano's combined 20 points. It was 36-20 at the half. Side note: Koller informed me during the 1h that Chas was wearing Dylan Park's tennis shoes. I couldn't believe a seasoned vet like Chas would let that happen. It might explain how he went into the half 0 for 4 from three with no other stats..........

    Balcony Thoughts at Halftime:

Shooter Mgavins were struggling bad at offense and no one thought they would be able to score enough to win this one. The feeling all season long was that if you kept them from fast breaking, they were pretty mediocre outside of Shebertes and Chas, when he gets hot in the half court. Peacemakers had control of the game and were getting balanced scoring from all their starters. Three players were in double digits for them.

    2nd Half:

The second half started with Peacemakers going on a quick 5-0 run, to make the score 41-20 with about 18 minutes remaining. It looked like we were in for a blowout here. However, Peacemakers just went ICE COLD from the field after the small run to start the 2h. They weren't making anything, Ouellette was missing shots he usually makes and Cavano was short arming threes, their offense looked screwed up.

Chas finally made a bucket, then he made a three. Joel started to come alive with some fast break buckets, as did Park. Out of no where, they went on a 15-0 run and baby, we have oursevles a game. If wasn't really one of those the "other team went crazy" runs either. It was a lot of missed possessions by the Peacemakers and Mgavins just kept chipping, chipping anf chipping away in this run.

An Ouellette And1 ended the run to make it 43-35 Peacemakers with 11 minutes to go in the game. I thought this where we would see Ouellette go into hero mode, but Mgavins came back with a 5-2 run to make it 45-40 with 7:15 remaining. Somehow they just kept getting closer and closer in this one.

A Shebertes 3, made it 47-46.....Ouellette came back with a bucket of his own 49-46.................Shebertes got hacked and cashed both FTs at the line..................Then the play of the game!

Kuz was bringing the ball up court, with Chas in his grill and CHAS STRIPS HIM, TAKES IT ALL THE WAY FOR 2..........BAH GAWD THE MGAVINS HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD 50-49.......SWEET MARY AND KOLLER.........Ouellette couldn't connect on his next shot, Mgavins grabbed the board.........Shebertes missed a J.........Ouellette missed another long 2.........Park went crazy and drove to the cup with the lead, when they trying to hold and missed a lay-up.........Ouellette missed another J......

And another key sequence came up here. Ouellette missed, but Cavano was crashing in and made contact with Shebertes whose momentum took him out of bounds, but Cavano was called for the foul.....Shebertes missed the front end though! But once again, Ouellette couldn't connect...Mgavins got the board and threw an outlet to an open Park, who laid this one in.....Noah called a timeout with 22.2 seconds, Cavano somehow freed up for an open three at the top of the key and missed.....Shebertes got the board and made both FTs...Noah missed a heave from 3......Chas got the board and iced the game at the line. 56-49 Shooter Mgavins are you 2017 Winter BDraft Champions.
