Fall 2005: B1 League Champs: Data Nuggets

    Tigers Down Genzyme

Godfrey Chua has done it again. Apparently he is not satisfied with 4 CRFC titles and has gone out and assembled a very solid squad that opened with a win over the talented Genzyme. Raj Singh lead the Tigers with a massive 31 points and 17 rebounds while Derek Zundl and Jason Tibbets combined for 36 points and 20 rebounds. For Genzyme, Richard Manning looked very well rested from a summer of leisure and poured in 24 points and grabbed 8. Godfreyís team looks pretty good and they will be tough to beat.

One Is Better Than Two: Manning leads Karma Police Over Genzyme

Despite a fantastic performance by Keith Manning last night, Karma Police managed too end their season with their 5th straight victory on their way to a playoff birth. Keith Manning lead Genzyme with 26 points and Danny Pucci had a very nice 1st half that to keep Genzyme very close throughout the 1st half. But Mike Manning lead the charge for Karma Police (20 points) while The Spanish Sniper David Garcia (16 points) and John ìRasheedî Little (14 points, 13 rebounds) helped spurn that 2nd half run that put Genzyme away. Good news for Genzyme as they will make the playoffs. Where have you gone, Bob Muse?

Local hero: Finn Erupts For 33 To Keep Millenium Winless

Ed Finn put on a shooting display last night that sunk Milleniumís ship early and often. He was aided by ìThe Vozzî Brian Vozzellla (14 points) and Mr. Everything Jeff Hrkach, who had a Ben Wallace type line of 2 points and 15 rebounds.  Fred Bermont took on Mr. Everythingís normal stat line with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 blocks, but Millenium ends it season winless in the B1. Thank the heavens for the B2 league though as that is where their playoff focus will be for the next few weeks. Momenta enters the playoffs as still one of the favorites to win it all, but not as the evil villain they usually play in this league. That role has been taken by the Data Nuggets, so it will be interesting to see how Momenta does without everyone gunning for them.

Cobra Kai 43  Bayside Tigers 57

On paper, a cobra is no match for a tiger. And while games arenít played on paper (well, except for crossword puzzles, Boggle, hangman, etc.), this game proved that sometimes you can predict the winner just by how they match up beforehand. Cobra Kai entered last nightís game losers of their last 4 games and looking like they were a team that needed some help. Bayside on the other hand entered the game tied for 1st place and winners of their last 3 games. And it was all Bayside in this one as Loaf had a great night, maybe his best this season, with 19 points, 3 steals, 3 blocks. Jason Tibbetts contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds as it was a total team effort for the Tigers. Cobra Kai managed a small spurt in the 2nd half behind The Reverend Jeff Coburn (18 points), who claims not to have gone to the line in 5 straight games. Well, there have been 3 different refs working these games, so either Dave, Brian and I email each other every week and talk about how we are going to really stick it to the Reverend (and therefore jeopardizing our entry into the pearly gates) or maybe heís not getting fouled as much as he thinks he is. Anyway, we still love the Rev and the rest of Cobra Kai and thankfully they will make the playoffs and we all know that Cobra Kai is capable of just about anything in the playoffs. Stay tuned.

Data Nuggets 69  The Mullets 59

While I saw a few minutes of this game as I was again in parking lot pergatory, I didnít get the feel this game was as close as the final score appeared. TJ ìGoogleî Mahoney had 26 points while Ryan Carrigg also added 26 points of his own. Why didnít Google or Ryan pick Carrigg up for the 3 on 3 tourney this weekend?  Seems like he would have been a nice fit for one of the teams they entered. Anyway, my boys form the Gus had a decent showing against the top team in the league as Jay Sartori netted 26 points in an effort to keep the scoring title in our hometown. Mark Bothelo was also looking to grab the leagueís rebounding title and managed 20 points and 9 rebounds, but the Data Nuggets are just too deep. They enter the playoffs as the 2nd seed and the Mullets will be dangerous with the leagueís leading scorer and rebounder on its team.
