    Tigers Down Genzyme

Godfrey Chua has done it again. Apparently he is not satisfied with 4 CRFC titles and has gone out and assembled a very solid squad that opened with a win over the talented Genzyme. Raj Singh lead the Tigers with a massive 31 points and 17 rebounds while Derek Zundl and Jason Tibbets combined for 36 points and 20 rebounds. For Genzyme, Richard Manning looked very well rested from a summer of leisure and poured in 24 points and grabbed 8. Godfreyís team looks pretty good and they will be tough to beat.

Genzyme Tops Millenium In Battle For the Cellar

Remember when you were little and you and your older brother used to battle in the cellar for control of the remote and the better couch? This game was the same except nobody wanted to end up with control of the cellar, and it showed as both teams played very well. If someone had told me that these were the last place teams in our league, I would have either said that they have had one too many red bull and vodkas, or that we have a very good B1 league. While I have been accused on several occasions of the former, I think it is the latter. It was great to see these guys play well as it has been a struggle all season in this league. Genzyme came out on a mission as Greg Miller scored the 1st 6 points (14 overall) to get Genzyme the early lead. The Worm Jeff York (18 points), Fred Bermont (14 points, 8 rebounds) and Kevin Huestis (14 points, 9 rebounds) kept Millenium in it early. But the difference in this one was the cohesion of Genzymeís squad, as Mark Allyn (14 points) and Keith Manning (19 points, 7 rebounds) exhibited the chemistry this team has been lacking most of the season. They hang on for the win and emerge from the cellar of B1. Neither team may make the playoffs in this league, but at least they both have teams in the B2 league to fall back on and make a championship run.

    Data Nuggets Survive Dogfight

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a supporter of dogfighting or dogracing of any kind. It is both cruel and harmful to everyone involved and I do not condone it under any circumstances under my administration. But this game can only be described as such as both teams played 40 minutes of all out bruising basketball. I would have liked to play in this game had it been about 5 years ago, but I was glad to be watching this one for sure. A total of 32 fouls were called in 40 minutes of play and 32 more fouls could have easily been called. But as I have said before, I am not the star of this show, so if both teams want to play physical and have the talent to handle it, then so be it. I think these two teams and Momenta subscribe to this theory, so when two of these teams match-up, itís always fun. The Nuggets were lead early by MVP candidate TJ îGoogleî Mahoney (25 points, 12 rebounds, 6 steals) as he was an absolute beast on both ends of the floor. But in typical Cobra Kai fashion, they did not back down as DJ Jazzy Jeff Hall had in my opinion the CRFC performance of his life, scoring 35 points on a variety of drives and jumpers that kept his team in it the entire way. The 2nd half proved just as physical as the 1st as Paul Zeckser picked up the scoring (17 points) as did the X-factor Ryan Carrig (17 points, 10 rebounds), who in my opinion is a dead ringer for Conan OíBrien (not as much as my favorite player Derek Dally is a dead-ringer for a young Travolta, but close). Maybe we can get Ryan to give Dally a mock late-night interview? Anyway, Jazz continued to keep his team in it as he showed he has what it takes to both give and receive punishment (probably a good thing to have since he will soon be a member of JAG). But the Nuggets pulled away down the stretch to stay tied for 1st place while Cobra Kai drops to 1-5 with their playoff hopes in question.

Little, Cox lead 2nd Half Surge to Overtake Coed Naked

First, letís hope Fay Robinsonís ankle isnít as bad as it appeared last night and she has a quick recovery. As for the game, it was a story of two halves as Coed Naked too control early behind The Young Republican (18 points) and Eric Hinton (14 points, 5 steals). Mike Manning kept the Karma Police in it in the 1st half with 15 1st half points (23 overall), but Coed Naked had the lead at the half. But the 2nd half was a different story as Dr. TJ Cox (11 points, 5 steals), who I think looks a bit like Larry Bird from afar, and John ìRasheedî Little (10 2nd half points, 14 overall) emerged to get Karma the lead. Edwards continued his scoring in the 2nd half, but received little help from his mates and Karma finished up with a 10 point victory.

    Bayside Takes Down Mighty Momenta

I managed to see the 1st half of this game because I was in parking lot lockdown. No way I am giving that lady any money for working out (it really cuts into my earnings!) ñ Iíll sleep there if I have to. But I was glad to see it as it was a match-up of two of the three teams tied for 1st, and based on some tricky math, that means one of them wonít be tied for 1st after the game is over. Bayside seemed in control in the 1st half as Raj Singh took advantage of his match-up to score the teamís 1st 6 points (23 points, 11 rebounds). Both teams were having trouble scoring as defense was the name of the game. Normally Tougher Than The Rest Ed Finn was held to18 points, most of them coming in the 2nd half. But despite this, Momenta held a 6 point lead down the stretch behind the Hidden Jewel Brian Vozzella (17 points) and John Masso (16 points). But some costly turnovers down the stretch combined with a few Mike Chung jumpers allowed Bayside to escape with a win (thanks, Prof). Bayside Tigers hang on for a share of 1st place and will face the Data Nuggets in next weekís battle for 1st.

    GDI 48  Undadawgs 47

GDI managed to win one despite being with superstud Mark Novak. Bob Corning stepped up with a big game with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Matt Nowicki also added 16 points. Apparently, Ramon decided that the assist title was way overrated and dropped 21 and 14 on the men of GDI, but it wasnít enough to give the Undadwags the win. Hate it or love, the Undadawgs are still tied for last place at 1-5 while GDI improves to .500.

Silky Johnson 68  Malicious Intent 46

Will someone please beat this team so I can have something to write about? Even without the services of Adam OíConnor, the SJís managed to easily roll over Malicious Intent behind the re-emergence of John Smith (20 points, 9 rebounds) who apparently waits until the end of the season and playoffs to show up for games. See, I have to take cheap shots at good guys like John Smith to make my write-ups readable! Of course, I gave him Finals MVP last season, so I guess I am still square with him. Frits David continues to quietly have another great season (18 points, 12 rebounds) on a not so successful team. Can you say, Elton Brand? SJís remain unbeaten at CRFC while Malicious Intent drifts into the cellar.

    Nympho Junkboxes 59  Townies 73

Danny Ryan ahs apparently assembled himself some solid talent to go along with his own fine play. Last night they managed to take down the Nympho Junkboxes as all players scored in double figures. The Anthony Brothers performed well, combining for 51 of the teams 59 points, but the Townies had too many weapons and are alone in 2nd place.
