Fall 2008: B1 League Champs: Off In Your Face

    The Firm Cant Get Off...
The Firm 56 Off In Your Face 67

Pre Game: I love how both these teams think I don't like them.  Don't you all know by now that I don't like anyone?? I don't want any of the teams to win at this point, it just reminds what kind of pathetic effort I put up in the playoffs on a seasonal basis.  As long as everyone doesnít like me, Iím happy.

Game Time: Slow start offensively to the game, but there's still a whole lot going on.  Denyse and Ward trading verbal barbs, Polin playing like he should have made the All-CAC team (D and O), and of course, tons of 3s flying.

Ward picks up his third foul and havent even played 10 minutes yet

But he's left the game in good hands, as both Maddrey and Wyman have hit buckets to put the team up 15-12.

Wyman for 3!! Maybe I should have split the MIP award between the two of them?? The Firm bench has been a HUGE plus for them this season on the way to recovering from that slow start.

Ward comes back into the game and hits a 3 to put his squad up 24-15. Thankfully for OIYF, Bruno is 1-7 at this point, or else the score would look a lot worse.  But face it, The Firm isn't going to get anything going in the paint with Polin and Hall waiting for them.

Bruno with a Deeeeeeep three AND the foul!  Can't convert the free throw because he's a tad hobbled, but the Firm is up 27-19 with 4 to go in the half.  All of a sudden they're 6-17 from downtown, about as good as any team is going to shoot in this gym.  OIYF won't be able to keep pace for long, will they?

Weell they will if the MVP, Jeff Hall, has anything to say about it. He's lighting it up from downtown (Bank's Open!) and in the paint.  Denyse scores the last 4 points for OIYF as they trim their hole to just 1 at the break.  This is anyone's game, and now they're going towards the 'good rim'

The key for OIYF (SOMF) has been shutting down Manny (0 pts, 1reb) with their bigs, they'll need to do more of that in the second half.  Keep the pressure on and not allow too many open 3s.  This is the firm, so they'll get a bunch, but you've got to limit them as much  as possible

Maddrey keeping the Firm in the lead with 4 quick points, but Greg Polin answers with 6 for the first OIYF lead in a long, long time.

Uh-oh, bad news for the Firm, as Andrew picks up his fourth foul. He's only their second leading scorer with 10 points, and the only guys that's creating his own shots.  A HUGE loss if he sits for long.  Jeff Hall picks up the missed free three and tosses in his 20th point of the game.

OIFY by 1, 12 left, and this is a low scoring game, just like they're used too. The Firm, so far, without a three pointer this half

As soon as I type that Maddrey comes out of the time out and drains one.  He's in double figures now.  Rugga answers to get in the stat sheet! You know, other than for all the fouls.

Bruno and Hall battling down low for position, and neither one giving an inch and both frustrating the living hell out of each other.

OIYF is just running clock with a patient offense and they're up 5 with 6 to go.  I may have to personally apologize to Polin after the game for not giving him more props in the awards.  The Defensive team nod was well deserved, but uh no All-CAC what was I thinking?? The job hes doing on Manny is just unbelievable at this point, I wouldn't believe it if I hadnt seen it

The MVP is playing with four fouls, can the firm take advantage?

Um no, as OIYF is getting easy layups and they can now wrap it up with some free throws.  Be ware the 3 point barrage though.

You know what's pissing me off, the fact that I still type t's before n's every single time I type point.  I hate that ish.

The Firm can't make a rally and Off in Your Face is headed to the Unification Semis on Thursday night at 8PM against the West Champ, the Steamboats.

Post Game:  "I'm pretty sure Polin was thinking "F You Tibbs" every time he powered to the bucket last night" ~ Rugga

I couldn't have put it any better myself, so I didn't even bother to try.  Between Polin and the MVP, OIYF just had too much muscle inside and with some nice perimeter D and timely shooting from Denyse (fine and Rugga too) OIYF has a chance to play for the Title!
