WO takes Nubbin down for first legit loss of the season
    WO Productions 67 Nubbin 44

Nubbin, without either of their Mason point guards, struggled moving the ball against the intense WO defense in this game. This had all the potential for a game of the season but WO controlled this game from the opening tip, as Tim OKeefe tossed in 7 early points and had 3 first half blocks as he channeled useless big man Scott Mulholland's prime playing days.

Nubbin was within 6 at half time before Geoff managed to get off some open looks and Spates hit some free throws. Seriously the team was 7-8 from the charity stripe and only hit 8 buckets in the oepning frame. They were the first team to keep WO in check on the offensive end of the floor as Ryan was just 1-5 from 3, and not sure exactly why he was playing with his massive hangover (or case of vaginitis, not sure which, says the guy who also sat out his own game with a hangover).

WO was able to pull away in the second half as Jay tossed in 17 points in the first 9 minutes of the second half to blow this game wide open. WO had a 55-39 lead at that point and enver looked back to stake their claim (OFFICIALLY, FINALLY) as the team to beat as we barrel towards the post season

Rookie Teams debut in season opener!

CACers let's take care of the housekeeping first, shall we?

FIRST - great work having jerseys everyone, that's incredibly helpful with the stats/writeups. However, I didnt see anyone rocking the free Ts that we're giving away. Head to CAC (215 First St - Cambridge) at any time to pick them up! Seriously they're really nice this year, don't miss out on them

SECOND - be active on the message boards! I'm going to be all up in there this season and have posted some of my thoughts on the week that won't make it into these writeups: http://www.cacbasketball.com/discussion/cac-league-discussion/b24v4west-week-1-reactions-and-power-rankings
You'll get pregame lines from me sometime between friday night and monday morning as well, so make sure to always check the boards and let me know what you think!

That's all for now, i'm sure i'll think of more to post about

Week 1 Game 1 is always a good time no matter who is playing. This season it was two rookie teams popping their #cacbasketball cherries. Alright, there were a couple guys that had played before but IN GENERAL these were rookies squads. You get my point.

Off in the Woods jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead. They were crashing the O Glass hard and not giving any TSMITH any breathing room when they had the ball. A couple early turnovers led to confidence building layups for John Williams and company.

Zilnicki, who started on the bench for TSMITH checked in after about 5 minutes and paid immediate dividends. He scored the first 9 points for TSMITH but his squad still trailed 21-9 with 8 minutes to go in the first half. Tyler hit a 3 and the squad kept chipping away, trailing 25-17 with 5 minutes to go in the second half.

For those that are wondering, no i don't have an insanely good photgraphic memory, and i'm also not just making up scores and times. I do track everything!

    #beststatkeeperalive

Off in the Woods really got after it the last 5 minutes of the half though, with a 24-6 run that put the game completely out of reach. Kressbach had notched a double double by the break controlling the paint and in fact everyone but Luke had scored at least 9 points at halftime. Luike would continue to be a disappointment, being the only guy not to break double figures in this game while then turning around and dropping 17 points in the forfeit run that didn't count towards his stats. Get your priorities straight Luke!!

13 offensive rebounds and 7 first half steals for Off in the Woods was what really helped push them over the top. They really didn't have an answer for Zilnicki all night long, and as the game progressed you could see that Tyler and Caleb are going to contribute more buckets in future weeks. But their biggest contributor of the night had to be Jon Mayes. Not on the court, I don't always care about that. Off the court Mayes was dropping money quotes left and right while talking to himself on the bench. Only one of these is made up:

1 - "I am way too old for this shit" - just 29 minutes into the season

    2 - "Can I be our 4th #25?" - seriously 3 guys wore the #25 last night

3 - "Feed the White Pierogi!" - about Ben Zilnicki

Did you guess #2? that was the made up quote. So yea, you don't have to contribue ON the court to get writeup love (although he did have the second most rebounds on the team last night) and I just hope the guys that TSMITH was missing contribute on the court and help make the competitive each week.

Oh yea, this is what happens in a blowout - no second half commentary for you! you pad your stats, i pad my writeups in other ways

NUBBIN starts off title defense absolutely terrified of the best team in the league

Nubbin with the no-show last night but at least we had a little heads up so the guys from Off in the Woods stuck around for another run and probably were regretting it as they were sucking wind before the first half was up.

The O'Keefe brothers skills were on full display in this one was Jay was bombing away from downtown, Ryan was a terror on the defensive end and Tim was wondering if his new baby was waking up in the middle of the night after hearing all the bricks he was throwing up. No Scott Mulholland in this one didn't matter as the final score was 107-59 with plenty of offense and more than enough defense against guys playing their second game in a row! Seriously, I'm so glad they stuck around for the run. Can't start off the season without a game

    Not Broken Down Yet

What's this, i've got to post the writeup for my own games? COME ON MAN!! Hopefully you all read all the writeups for your league as I'll usually post some league admin stuff in the first one rather than repeat it every writeup and pad my word count.

I had no idea what to expect when Mason recuited me onto this team (my second straight season playing with a Mason) but apparently good things are in the offing. Although Kyroe 'only' had 13 points, he dominated the game start to finish, forcing the Off Constantly defense to bend towards him, leaving everyone else open for easy looks. Hallsy came in off the bench to lead the team with 19 points as BDB sprinted out to a 50-25 halftime lead and never looked back.

Off Constantly lived up to their name this week, shooting 5-31 from deep but i don't think that will be the case every week. Karim got to the hoop any time he wanted in the second half of this one and Bobby's stroke is there, shots just didn't fall in this one. I say it every season, but no team is as good as they look in week 1, and no team's sitatuion as dire as it might appear either.

But for BDB there was simply no stopping the Muscle Hamster, Dave Bradshaw. DB got out behind defense for easy layups, and dominated the glass. He was also clapping it up while Mason has bombing away from downtown and Born and Griffin were busting their ass on both ends. Just an all around great effort by the squad.

Seriously, everyone should get on the message boards (and twitter) and yuk it up with me, keep me entertained!! http://www.cacbasketball.com/discussion/cac-league-discussion/b24v4west-week-1-reactions-and-power-rankings/#p103262
