The Steamboats Show and Prove by taking the B2 5v5 East in thriller against Upstate Connection
Upstate Connection 41 Steamboats 48
One thing that has proven true in my experience watching games at CAC, is that depth, not only in talent, but also in numbers always seems to take the cake. The Steamboats had 9 players for this game, and often during the season they had 10 or more players and that has helped significantly. They always seem to have fresh players off the bench, on top of having talent and focus. The Steamboats came into the playoffs as the #1 seed and they proved in this game why they were the best of the division.
Leng Tang was the Steamboats leading scorer with 11 points. That should speak loudly as to how they are the most selfless team in the league and spread the ball the best. Kemp Fleming had a strong game, scoring 8 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Chris Mackay was limited to only 7 points in this one, but Steamboats were able to prevail despite not having Mackay’s three-point stroke on. Randall Yee also helped out with 7 points. This game went into halftime tied and it was an excellent matchup.
This was an outstanding defensive performance by both teams. The steamboats had 8 steals while Upstate Connection had 7. Both Bill Warren and Trevor Koob each had 2 blocked shots. Koob had a double-double with 10 and 10. Keith Thompson, who has given it all every game this season, once again came through with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Upstate Connection usually can rely on Dan McNamara’s deep shot, and Scott Green’s offensive onslaught. Both Green and McNamara were off big time in this game. The Steamboats were able to push through and take the victory.

Double Dribble Dragons 50 Hurricane Ditka 69
Hurricane Ditka pulls away in second half to remain undefeated
With Zak Nabulsi not showing up until 13 minutes left in the game Hurricane Ditka had to resort to alternative options and a more fundamental oriented style of play. Bisi Udokwu came out roaring in this game scoring a game-high 34 points, keeping him as the league leading scorer at over 27 points a game. The surprise of the night was Tom McSharry coming through with a double-double who scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Even though the Double Dribble Dragons were able to stay in the game, only trailing by three points at half, they didn’t utilize a go to man on the offensive end.
Double Dribble Dragons never drive to the hold, fortunately they have some solid shooters. Ian So hit 4 three pointers and big man Nick Weng hit several 14-foot jumpshots. Their inability to rebound and being a much more finesse team opposed to the physical style that Hurricane Ditka plays kept them from making a legitimate run at this game in the second half.
Ike Andesy once again contributed with 8 rebounds. Chad Taylor and D.J. Hill had three assist a piece. DDD had a bit of help from Kevin Lau who scored 10 points.Hurricane Ditka is now 4-0 and are one of the two teams still without a loss (Steamboats). I look forward to the two of those teams matching up.

Millenium 41 Upstate Connection 86
Millennium falls to 0-4, as short-handedness continues to plague their season
Millennium showed up with only 4 players, and needed others to stand in for this game. As usual they were unable to use subs to get the breather that their players need. Upstate Connection fully took advantage of Millennium not having their leading scorer Fernando Rosario and exploded to a 20-2 start to the game. Pernell Reid, Scott Green, and Trevor Koob combined for 72 points. Reid added 12 boards, Green dished off 4 assists and snagged 3 steals, and Koob pulled down 10 rebounds as well. The highlight of this game was Upstate’s Dan McNamara playmaking ability, who dished off 10 assists, which is the leagues top assist performance of the season. McNamara’s performance seemed to overshadow Keith Thompson’s outstanding game with 5 assists and 3 steals to go with his 7 points.
Kalin Mitchell once again had a big game and seemed to have to over-exert himself as he has each game without the ability to have any rest. Mitchell scored 15 points, 10 rebounds and had 3 steals. Newcomer Alex Lada shot up some big time bricks, going 0 for 5 from three in his debut. Upstate Connection ran away with this game 86-41.
In order for Millennium to have any hope in this league they are gonna need to add a couple guys to their roster. There is no question they have some talented players but without the ability to get subbed out they won’t be able to compete.

44 Minutes of Hell 52 Steamboats 64
Fleming’s Double-Double Cruises the Steamboats to 4-0
The Steamboats had four players in double figures this game and completely out-played 44 Minutes of Hell. Kemp Fleming led the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Mike Dinh of the Steamboats matched Fleming’s 16 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds. 44 Minutes of Hell did have an incredible defensive showcase out of Mark LeMarbre who had 7 steals and a block. LeMarbre also scored 17 points. Brendan McGuirk hit two 3-pointers and had six boards.
The Steamboats limited themselves to only nine 3-point attempts, but shot 6 of 9. Chris Mackay’s aggressive play was critical for the Steamboats win. Mackay scored 10 points, grabbed 6 boards, and had 3 steals. Randal Ye also scored 10 points. 44 Minutes really didn’t have a second option. Brian Peckril did score 10 points for 44 minutes of Hell but at the end of the day the Steamboats out-shot and out-rebounded to move quickly past 44 minutes of Hell.
Next week, October 13 will be the face-off of the undefeated between the Steamboats and Hurricane Ditka. Its on!!!.

Someone’s Gotta Win! Winless squads face off to seek out win #1
I’ve gotta say that every time I have seen each of these teams play I always think they are great teams. For these two teams to come into this game without a win is very surprising to me. Boris Perlovsky of Minus 1 Cuban always brings the intensity. I haven’t seen any other player in the league with as much hustle. In this game Perlovsky scored 9 points, had two steals, two blocks, and three rebounds. Minus 1 Cuban started off a bit slow, trailing by three at half, but Thomas Neufeld played his best game of the season scoring 14 points and a game high 15 rebounds which enabled M1C to walk away victorious for the first time this season.
This was a game highlighted by defense with Jack Sheehan of M1C and Jon Salalayko of Touch Me and I’ll Soo each having 4 steals. Touch Me and I’ll Soo shot very well, hitting 9 of 22 three’s. Andy Ong shot 3 of 9 from downtown and finished with 13 points. Evan Greenspan, Kevin Crowley, and Jon Salalayko each hit two 3-pointers. James Ciarleglio stepped his game up big time scoring 16 points and grabbing 2 steals for M1C. Ross Attfield was very helpful in this victory by scoring 7 points and grabbing 8 boards. Now that M1C is in the win column I think their season is about to take a big turn for the better.
