Winter 2016: B2 5v5 League Champs: Julius Swerving

    Swerving Wins The South
Julius Swerving 60 The Kids 51

B2 South Final and I would give this more effort if a sea of write-ups for four nights in a row at the Y hadn’t drowned my motivation.

Easy to locate the key stat in the first half of this one: Kids go 0-10 from three while Julius Swerving hits 10 of 12! Including 5 from Pierce to take a 36-19 lead into the break.

They’d need every bit of that because The Kids started to play ferocious D like they always do and Laorenzo got enough buckets so that they came all the way back to make it 43-36 late in the second half.

Then AB came up with a huge take, which he could prob do every possession but just doesn’t for some reason, and Swerving got the right guy to the FT line (Not Otto going 1-2, no no no) as KVR hit the freebies to seal it.

    Parthenon 69  The Kids 45

    Parthenon Early Season Statement

Welcome to the B2 South, or as it could be called B2A South because the top of this league seems to be head and shoulders above the other divisions. The Kids found that out in a 69-45 loss to Parthenon, a reigning champion in Corporate Leagues and a force to be reckoned with in the B2 Atlantic before making the switch.

Zack Miles started out cold while missing his first five attempts from deep, but I’m pretty sure he went 5-5 on his next launches and would wind up with a game-high 37 points. Elder also got hot from downtown while Eusden, Eger, and Holthouse filled their roles. #DoYourJob

Inno matched Miles scoring outburst in the first half with a few triples including a 4-point play, but he couldn’t keep that up into the second frame as Parthenon ran away with it.

    Swerving Fiya

Find the Hole took a shellacking in their first game this season, but I don’t think they’ll have trouble competing each week. Bringing 11 guys to a fast-paced, rhythm-based matchup against Julius Swerving is not the best idea, but it becomes much worse when the YMCA turns off the heat and we’re playing in 40-degree temps.

Nobody on FTH could get into a rhythm off the bench, and after Pablo and Mike hit a couple of early threes, Swerving let it rain. They had no subs at first, which allowed everyone to warm up, and catch fire as KVR, Trevor, and Pierce combined for an 8-10 start from downtown.

It was 40-18 by halftime when Aaron Bray arrived to add another skilled passer to Swerving’s excellent ball movement. Pierce ruined his percentage by chucking down the stretch but still a very impressive performance from the lumberjack hipster.

The Chianti Boys 70  Nice Guys Looking for a Fun Time 69

    Double Overtime Thriller

Early candidate for Game of the season will probably remain the most exciting contest of year, as Chianti Boys eventually outlasted Nice Guys in a 70-69 2OT thriller.

Nice Guys led 29-19 at the half because Chianti struggled to find their offense, aka give Jase the ball and let the man work. Huber was carrying Nice Guys and would finish with 49 of their 69 points in the loss, but Jase was right there to answer down the stretch with 38 of his own.

Comino hit three difficult pull-up threes to complete a comeback at the end of regulation, and traded threes with Huber in the first OT as he remained tied 62-62. In the second OT, Stein came through with a clutch three off a feed from Comino, and Chianti Boys finally contained Huber to the point that he only hit a deep three at the buzzer to cut the lead to 1 (70-69). So yes, we almost had triple OT.

    Leo's Legends 88  Brattlestar Galactica 29

    Uh Oh

Oh, this is going to be tough for Brattlestar Galactica. Due to location and time constraints they're committed to playing in the B2 South instead of the Corporate Leagues and they will often be overmatched as they were in Week 1.

Can't say enough about the positive attitude from BG's bench though, as Rowett and Smith just smoked them for about 48 points in the paint and the Beatons drained threes for Leo's Legends.

Gorman chipped in with a few nice takes for BG, but it's crazy to note that they didn't log an assist until there were 3 minutes left in the game! Go back to the clipboard and perfect that Flex Princeton offense so we can work on those stats.
