Fall 2006: B2 League Champs: Serenity Now

Have It Your Way PK Vataha Take Down Balco To Advance
    Serenity Now 67 BALCO 53

Stats will be up later this morning, but I wanted to get the write-up posted ASAP before I got any scathing emails about it! This one started off just like these two team's regular season match-up - very even with neither team able to surmount any type of significant lead. Serenity Now's Collin Vataha opened the game with a three, setting the tone in this one that he was going to have a major impact on this game on both ends of the floor. BALCO countered with focusing their offense around rookie of the year runner up Tom Reilly, who responded in the 1st half with multiple jumpers and drives to the hoop. The PK Broiler Paul Krezanoski had a relatively off night (maybe 50% shooting instead of 75%?) as Everybody's Favorite Point Guard Matty O' was relentless on defense despite SN's strategy of running Matty into picks in hopes of slowing him down on both ends of the floor. In the second half, SN began to pull away behind Vataha and the warming PK, but three huge post buckets in a row from Kevin Reilly (he does this every game) and some threes from the Big Fish Matt Gill and Matty O' kept SN within striking distance, just like their last meeting. You knew that SN's history of blowing their lead late in big games was on The Good King Adam Kneeland's mind, but this time he would not let his team fold down the stretch as Tom "Bigshot" Biggins hit a huge three and SN hit there free throws to hold on and advance to the finals. Serenity Now will now play for that elusive B2 title in tonight's unification bout with B2 West champs Genzyme at 8:15. Should be a great match-up with Kmiec vs. PK and Santos vs. Vataha - it will not be an easy roll for SN that is for sure. And congrats to BALCO on a great 1st season in the B2 East and hope to see them next season battling once again for that elusive B2 title. Is there another Reilly hiding somewhere to get them over the hump? Happy holidays to all and see you in 5 weeks.
