Ballers Streak into the B2 Unification Game
Genzyme 50 CAC-n-Ballers 71
Pre Game: Of course everyone comes out for the playoffs. Genzyme is rolling 7 deep as every wants a little bit of credit should they pull off the monumental upset. As stated in the pregame lines, the CaC N Ballers (-8.5) are just two wins away from being the ONLY undefeated team this season. That includes 4v4 and 5v5. I'm going to have to check the record book to see who the last team to pull the trick was. As far as I can remember, it's the CTown Fire A 5v5 team from the Fall 07 league...
Game Time: We've got a Commish sighting behind the whistle as Pstone is stuck is traffic on 93 and we've got a schedule to keep here. And by that I mean we've got the C League Finals to get to at Morse after this one. For those of you wondering about any consipracies, unlike yours truly, the Commish can leave his biases at the door.
Bmul, snubbed by Bfab for the West D PoY award, opens the game with a vicious block on Big Country and 4 quick points. Now if only he could buy a free throw. I haven't seen a Genzyme this fired up for a game since the last time they were in the finals, which was way too recently in my opinion.
Both teams are a bit cold from downtown until Chet warms things up for the Ballers. The 'role' players are going to play a much bigger role in this one than I tthink even they expect. Zyme has brought Five Hard Fouls and House Rules Bierut to this street fight and I expect them to use all 10 of their alloted hacks. What's the point otherwise?
All the Celebrities have come out to watch this one from the balcony. We've got Broadway Joe rocking the Patriots Pjs. I'm not making that up, they look fantastic. Meanwhile, Jamil Ball and Jon Exantus huddle in the corner to discuss gameplay, and probably the fine Art of Sandbagging.
We've got a 14-10 game with 13 left as Big Country has come alive and dropped 9 points.
Big Ant is rebounding a whole lot more than usual in this one, and has 7 already. But he's balanced his increased aggressivness on the defensive end for a lack of it on offense and has settled for 5 3s, all misses so far.
A shocking string of 3 straight missed free throws for Big Country has left the door open for Zyme and Brad Mulholland has responded, hitting a 3 and bringing Genzyme to within a single point. They're in it despite Carrot Hop not having a single point. I guess it's balanced out by the fact that Big Ant has only hit free throws (4-4) so far.
Carrot Hop gets off the schnid, Zyme down 21-19! This game is a lot lower scoring than I expected. But Ant comes back and answers with his first 2 bombs from downtown. It's about time man, welcome to the West side finals!
Gerrity with a huge steal before halftime, but Zyme can't turn it into points. Other than the first 4 minutes of the game, Zyme hasn't played well at all and is very lucky to be down only 27-21. Bmul leads with 9 points while the Ballers are led by both BIGS with 11 each.
Jamil has seen Big Ant get warmed up at the end of the half and has already declared this one over.
PSTone shows up nice and tardy, getting here after the halftime buzzer. Let's see if the change in styles from the Commish to him makes any difference in the second period
He may prove to be a soothe sayer, as the Ballers have extended the lead to 37-26, Zyme is having trouble getting rolls on the tight rim, while Big Ant is having no trouble draining 3s of the other end. Big Country has just picked up his 3rd foul and needs to be careful, the Ballers can't afford to lose him for long.
Doesn't matter, as this is a 20 point game all of a sudden. It don't matter what you do to guard John Kelley, if you don't deny him the ball, he's gonna score. And uh, Anthony? Yea, don't let him shoot 3s. He's hit 5 of his last 7 since the 0-6 start.
Doesn't matter the score, Bfab is always gonna find a way to take a charge. Zyme is down 15 with 7 to go. They don't need to start chucking 3s yet, just find ways to score. It's been a challenge all night, Brad has been the only consistent threat and no one ellse has more than 6 points. Not an effective way to balance out a team that has two guys in the mid 20s.
Chet coming through down the stretch, hitting his only 2 three point attempts on the night. It's gonna be tough to beat a team that shoots 8-21 from downtown
Everyone is gonna get a chance to pad their point totals from the free throw line down the stretch. CNB is cruising into the B2 Unifiication Match on Wednesday at 5:30 PM ñ be sure to tune in!! Pkelley is gonna do something that Blau hasn't if he can hit one of these free throws coming up, and that's score. And he does!! Bfab comes in to get his money's worth and foul out of the game in the last minute, but it allows Blau to get in the scorebook!
Post Game: In the end, the Ballers were just too good for all the challengers in the West this season. They turned it up on defense, especially against Carrot Hop, and forced Genzyme to take a number of bad or contested shots. Keeping them off balance from 3 (2-22)helped as well, and Gang Green was done in by their three-point shooting in every league, it seemed this season. Remember, B2 Unification game is this Wednesday at 5:30 PM!!
