Tandom of Shultz and Oslo Come Up XXL
CAC-n-Ballers 60 XXL 65
XXL takes the B2 West title with a narrow win over CAC-n-Ballers and the Westside MVP! The usual suspects had big games for XXL, as Easy Ed tossed in 16 points and Matt Monroe provided a steady hand with 12 points and 8 boards. But the key to their victory was the improved game of Zack Shultz (12 points, 8 boards) and Mike Oslo (12 points, 12 boards). Sure they didn't exactly slow down Big Country (36 points, 22 boards) but they made him work for every single point. And they also matched his output for most of the night. It's about as easy to score on Big Country as it is to slow him down, but Oslo and Shultz did a great job of hitting tough buckets in the paint.
The CAC-n-Ballers were able to keep this game close for 2 reasons. The first, obviously was the outstanding play of John (likes to be called Jack?) Kelley. The second was that they only gave up 6 steals to the XXL squad. That's unheard of security with the ball for an XXL opponent. In fact, they didn't allow a steal for the first 9 minutes of the game, and it was all tied up. Jamil himself averages 6 steals a game, so that was a big reason this game was so close. Unfortunately, Big Country didn't get quite enough offensive help. Joe Randall (7 points) and Vande (9 points) did most of their damage in the first half. They didn't handle the ball a lot because Jamil was roaming, so they didn't get enough looks in the second half. Big Country scored 21 of the team's 30 points after the break, but it wasn't enough, as XXL had plenty of guys putting the bisket in the basket.
