ALS-TDF 43 Ripcord 37
ALS Secures #1 Seed
In a battle for the #1 seed, ALS proved it was worthy of the title by handily beating Ripcord last night in a game dominated by Brad King. King did it all ñ hitting from the outside (17 points) and defense (5 steals). Balancing him out down low was Ken Thompson (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Matt Bell (8 points). Ripcord could never seem to get it closer than 4 points despite a good effort from the Iceman Jean Cadet (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Ian Whitney (10 points). Ripcord takes on Foot Clan next week while ALS takes on Biogen. These teams could meet again in the Finals if the seeds play through. Stay tuned.
Commentary by ... Fama Bacon Whores 21 Funk Soul Brothers 25 I didnít get to see this one due to the early starting time. But man, am I glad that I missed it. I walk in at 5:35 and it was 13-11 with 13 minutes to go ñ IN THE SECOND HALF!!!!! And Kevin Walsh is sitting in the trainerís room with a blown up ankle. The things that happen in this league while I am gone! Anyway, these two teams play each other again this season and the remainder of this one will be made up either at that time or on a different night at 5:00PM. Biogen Idec 53 Solid Gold 39 The men and women of Biogen (I refuse to acknowledge the IDEC piece as it wasnít there when I was at BGEN) are on a roll as they got their 2nd straight win last night. Zoran Sosic is proving to be quite the defensive menace with 7 blocks (and 13 points). Team Captain Eu Kim continues to impress as well with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Throw in Kevin Dunnís 13 points and Tammy Wilberís (6 points) traditional three point play and you have a pretty good squad. Michael Louca for Solid Gold continues to be the show (25 points) and Paul Selinger (10 rebounds) helped out a bit, but it wasnít enough as Biogen holds on. Solid Gold drops to 1-4.
Momenta 53 Ruckus 27 I think Momenta (and its stock price) impress me almost every week. This teamís passing and ability to communicate well on both ends of the floor is unmatched in this or maybe any other league. Theyíll even share a game jersey with another player who doesnít have one (gross!). Last night was no different as ìMr. Everythingî Jeff Hrkach returned from overseas with 8 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals. The backcourt tandem of Erik Moy (6 points) and John Masso (13 points, 8 rebounds) while Ed Finn (16 points, 4 steals) did his thing on both ends of the floor. Ruckus was off all night with the injured Magic Man Chris Louis missing his shots. Gerry Arbens had a nice game (13 points) and Dan Fitzgerald (8 points, 5 rebounds) played well down low but didnít get much help as Ruckus was missing their other big man Glen Goff. Momenta gets the easy win and moves back into 1st place alone with the unfinished game of Funk. Ruckus drops its 3rd straight searching for just the right chemistry to propel themselves into the championship mix.
Ripcord 37 Foot Clan 29 The Iceman cometh. After a poor showing last week, ìThe Icemanî Jean Cadet returned to form with a great all around game with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead his team to a hard fought victory. Rob Gendron had 10 points, 7 rebounds and Ian Whitney had 6 rebounds, 4 assists to help out the Iceman in this one. Foot Clan hung tough inn the 1st half but the loss of Jon Hanson (back spasm) really hurt their chances in the 2nd half despite the aggressive play of Patrick Rooney (6 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals). Both teams move to 3-2.
Genzyme 37 Expos 40 One week after scraping for a 4th player, Genzyme showed up with a full squad of 8 players in this one. The Expos could only manage 4 guys (and no Cliff Laro) in this one causing the bookmakers to scramble and increase the opening line in favor of Genzyme. The Expos started off hot behind the continued great play of point guard Zachís boy Vin. This guy is a waterbug who can knife through the lane as well as hit the open jumper and open man (12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals). Ben Pressgrove was also hot early in the post (11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals). Dan Fitzgeraldís also had a great game with 14 points and 8 rebounds in what was his best game of the year thus far. The Expos controlled the game most of the way with great passing and rebounding while Genzyme struggled to find an offensive groove. Greg Miller (13 points) started off hot again in the early going, but, like any bad date, was not heard much from again. Mike Knemic also was off early and looked less energetic than in previous games (11 points, 11 rebounds). The second half was more of the same as the Expos continued to control the game until the fouling began. Genzyme managed to get close as the Expos struggled a bit from the line despite getting some big buckets form Fritz. But up two with 10 seconds to play, the Expos made 1 of 2 free throws and Genzyme came back down the court looking to tie it with a three. But a fumbled pass and a subsequent Pressgrove steal sealed the victory and a 2nd straight big win. Genzyme on the other hand is in a tailspin, losing its 3rd straight after upending previously unbeaten Momenta.
