Spring 2005: B2 West League Champs: Ripcord

    ALS Secures #1 Seed

In a battle for the #1 seed, ALS proved it was worthy of the title by handily beating Ripcord last night in a game dominated by Brad King. King did it all ñ hitting from the outside (17 points) and defense (5 steals). Balancing him out down low was Ken Thompson (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Matt Bell (8 points). Ripcord could never seem to get it closer than 4 points despite a good effort from the Iceman Jean Cadet (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Ian Whitney (10 points). Ripcord takes on Foot Clan next week while ALS takes on Biogen. These teams could meet again in the Finals if the seeds play through. Stay tuned.

Foot Clan 42  Solid Gold 29

Wild On, Finkle Lead Clan Over Louca-less Solid Gold

Without league leading scorer Michael Louca, Solid Gold was in need of some scoring last night. Unfortunately, Foot Clan decided to play their best game of the season, despite being without the injured Jon Hanson. They were operating on all cylinders last night, cutting and passing like they have been playing together since the dawn of time. Patrick Rooney (6 points, 14 rebounds),    KlayîWild Onî Dendrinos (15 points, 7 rebounds) and Dan Finkle, who finally got some shots for a change (11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) lead the way for Foot Clan. I also know that Marc Lo Ponte had a nice game down low, but his stats continue to be as elusive as the Loch Ness. Neel Shorey (13 points) and Paul Selinger (6 points, 11 rebounds) did their best to keep their team in it, but it was not enough as Foot Clan gets back on the winning track to 4-3 while Solid Gold drops to 1-5.

Surprising ALS Moves to 5-1 Behind New Additions

The men and women of Biogen continue to be one of my favorite teams to watch. After all, current and former employees of BGEN have a bond that cannot be broken - not by the FDA, not by the NASDAQ, not by anyone. But last night ALS continued their surprising march to the top of the league by dominating both ends of the floor, despite being without Shaq. Newcomers Brad King (13 points, 7 rebounds) and Matt Bell (13 points, 11 rebounds) lead the way while old stalwart and Jeff Cole (11 points, 9 rebounds) chipped in for the surging ALS team. Biogen did get solid efforts from my man Eu Kim (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Zoran Sosic (18 points, 13 rebounds), but it just wasnít BGENís night. ALS moves to 5-1 while BGEN drops to 2-5.

Momenta Gets Its Revenge, Genzyme Drops 5th Straight

You think Momenta marked this one on their calendars? In the words of Cosmo Kramer, you got that right Jack. Momenta steamrolled over Genzyme last night, opening the game with an 8-0 run and never looked back. I have to say at least 65%, maybe more, of their teams points were lay-ups off either fast-breaks or great looks to the open man. ìAIî Erik Moy led the way for Momenta with 17 points while Ed Finn added 14 points despite sitting out most of the 2nd half. Zach Shriverís (13 points) corner 12 foot jumper continues to be one of the deadliest shots in the gym as he showed no ill effects from Sundayís 8K Charlestown road race in 90 degree heat. Joe Bankovich (8 points, 13 rebounds), Greg Miller (11 points) and Pradeepo Mammen (12 points), including some very acrobatic shots, never quit for Genzyme, but Momenta was too much. They get their revenge and move to 7-1 while Genzymeís tailspin continues with their 5th straight loss, dropping them to 3-5.

Ruckus Takes Down Fama In Fast Break Affair

This game was a fast breaking affair as both teams love to run and gun. A full Ruckus squad though for the 1st time al l season spelled doom for Fama Bacon. ìThe Waterbugî Gerry Arbens (28 points, 4 steals) had a great game, the best I have seen this season. He came out hitting threes, making steals, drives to the hoop sparking Ruckus to an early lead. Fama hung in behind the sharp shooting of team Captain Keith Watson (10 points) and big man Brian Merrill (17 points). But in the 2nd half, it was Ruckusí fast break and inside play of Greg Goff (16 points) and Dan Fitzgerald (5 points, 8 rebounds) in what turned out to be a very balanced attack behind Arbens. A late surge by Fama falls short and Ruckus hangs on for the win. If Ruckus plays like this, they will contend for the title. Ruckus moves back to the .500 mark at 4-4 while Fama drops to 2-5.

Funk Soul Brothers 55  Expos 42

    Brickley, Funk Outlast Expos

The Expos came out sizzling in this one, hitting almost everything they put up. Ben Pressgrove (14 points, 11 rebounds), John Kneeland (11 points), Jason Sawyer (6 points), and Cliff Laro (11 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) all started off the 1st half sizzling. And after Cliff nailed a three that beat the halftime buzzer to put his team up 8, I overheard a member of Funk saying it was the 1985 Georgetown/Villanova championship game all over again. But unlike Villanova, the sizzle wore off as the Expos went cold in the 2nd half as Funk began to take control of the game. Namely, Brendan Smith (14 points) and GR Brickley (17 points, 12 rebounds) decided it was about time to take over. Vin ìThe Anvilî Farina (11 points) and Matt Sweet (11 points) rounded out the scoring and Funk cruised in the 2nd half behind a big surge. Funk moves to 5-2 while the Expos drop to 3-4. Word on the street is that Funkís big man Kevin Walsh just might be back for the playoffs. Stay tuned.
