Winter 2006: B2 League Champs: Mullets

    Bunyon Handles Shorthanded Wizards

I may be redeemed after all as my pre-season #1 won its 3rd straight game last night heading into the playoff season. Sean Higgins continues to prove he is a legit stud in this league with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Andrew ìThe Coozî Darien added 14 points and 7 rebounds while Matt Sweet had 16.  The Worm Jeff York filled in for a short-handed Wizards squad to score 29 points, including 5 three pointers. But the defending champs limp into the playoffs at the .500 mark and donít look to be defending anything at the moment. Stay tuned.

No Rest: Solid Gold Concludes Hoop Weekend With A Win

After a full weekend of hoops that saw them win the 3 on 3 tourney on Saturday and get walloped by the Mullets on Sunday, Solid Gold finished up a very long 3 day stretch of basketball with a win over ALS-TDF despite being without leading scorer Mark Martineau. Or maybe he was there ñ we canít tell the difference between him and Rybczyk. Either way, Paul Selinger had a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Team Captain Tom Duval and Rybczyk dropped 15 a piece. I wonder how many points these guys had over the 3 day stretch? I wonder how many times they went to Hooters for wings? Anyway, a depleted ALS squad managed to get their twin towers of Shaq and Matt Bell a combined 25 points and 26 rebounds, but if they are going to go anywhere in the playoffs, they will need a full squad. Solid Gold ends the season at a very respectable 5-4 while ALS-TDF ends up at 4-4.

    Fama PR 45  Ripcord 46

    Defamation: Ripcord Clips Fama PR

Fama PR is always, always involved in close games. This is why I think they think I am against them as some of the calls just havenít gone their way in al of these close games. But luckily in this one, I wasnít part of the controversy as Ripcord eked out a 1 point win over Fama. The Iceman Jean Cadet had 14 points to give Ripcord an early lead. Fama hung around behind Mike Reillyís 17 points (game of his CRFC career Iíd say) and Keith Watsonís 11 points. But it became a fouling game towards the end and Ripcord hit just enough free throws combined with Dave Fieldingís big rebound and put-back down the stretch to secure the win. Good news for Fama as every team makes the playoffs, so I anticipate some drama from them next week.

    No Shock: Cha-Ching Steamrolls Jiggyís

I am not going to write out everyoneís name for Cha-Ching who had a great game as it was yet another balanced attack. They were up 10 early and did not let up the entire game, apparently subscribing to the Steve Spurrier philosophy of ìIíll stop trying to score when they do.î But it may be that they wanted to stay sharp for the upcoming playoffs next week, and that is understandable as they secured the #2 seed with the win last night. The Jiggyís were shorthanded and get the loss, but they do still have a shot as everyone makes the playoffs, just like the NHL.

Moovin on Up: More Cowbell Wins 4th Straight

It seems Genzyme always plays just well enough to lose by a few points. If I was smahtah, Iíd be able to figure out why, but I just donít get it. They have the horses to get more than 1 win in a season, but they just canít get the elusive CRFC W. Fred Bermont lead the way for More Cowbell with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 expletive laced tirades in my direction. More Cowbell is playing very well of late and I think will be a solid challenge for the title next week. Genzyme could still potentially surprise some people next week, so stay tuned.
